Statement of the Problem

The lack of proper sanitation in school restrooms is a significant

Challenge that effect the health, well-being, and overall educational
experience of students and staff. Insufficient cleanliness, hygiene, and
maintenance in these facilities lead to unsanitary conditions, the spread
of infections, and discomfort for users. This issue demands urgent
attention and effective solutions to ensure safe, hygienic, and functional
school restrooms.

Objectives
The objectives are to create cleaner, healthier, more comfortable
restrooms, prevent disease spread, ensure regular maintenance,
promote cleanliness education, gather feedback, allocate resources,
practice eco-friendliness, ensure accessibility for all, and adhere
regulations. These aims prioritize cleaner, safer, and user-friendly
restrooms for students and staff.

Significance of the study

The researchers explored how sanitation affects students’ health and
how it causes diseases and affects their educational experience and
behavior. Improper sanitation of restrooms in schools can cause a
spread of diseases that can cause major stomachaches and urinary
problems that can affect their educational behavior. Students that are
not aware of this issue are more prone to catching these diseases
caused by improperly sanitized restrooms because they do not know
how to prevent them from catching it. We as students of DAZSMA want
to have a cleaner and healthier environment for us to focus on our
studies and for us to improve our educational behavior. School
restrooms are one of the many facilities that a student primarily needs
and because of this factor being said school restrooms should be
properly sanitized for students to have a cleaner and safer environment.
Beneficiaries

Students
- This will be beneficial for those who find school restrooms
improperly sanitized, to improve the sanitation of restrooms in
DAZSMA

School Administrators
- This will be beneficial to them because they can also use this
method of sanitation

Parents/Guardians
- This can be benefit them by ensuring that the students of
DAZSMA have a clean environment and will not catch any diseases
that can harm their health

Future Researchers
- This research can be a guide to them on how they can create or
start their research and this research and this research can also
educate them on proper sanitation of restrooms.
Background of the study
In the year 2020, the importance of proper hygiene and sanitation
has become apparent due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to
Anandappa (2021), hand hygiene performance initially improved to 60
percent after the declaration of the pandemic, then improve once more
immediately after school closures, but regressed toward normal soon
after-meaning that we have become yet again complacent about the
direct impacts lack of proper sanitation has on our health

Regular sanitation should be done, especially in restrooms, for it is

where all human body wastes, which highly consists of bacteria, are
expelled. Unthorough cleaning of this area can lead to unsanitary
conditions, increase the chances of disease transmission or, potentially,
even the growth of a new one, immediately qualifying as a health risk
factor. In addition, a lack of proper sanitation in restrooms may cause
discomfort to its users, that even, if necessary, people might prefer not
to use these facilities over relieving themselves, subsequently leading to
other health implications such as Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) for
holding in urine and constipation or even bowel incontinence for stool
withholding. With the data collected over the academic year 2023-
2024, the researchers aim to promote much cleaner, safer, and more
comfortable restrooms for everyone, most especially the students, to
utilize.

Disinfection and sanitation of toilets are critical in reducing the risk of
pathogen transmission it doesn’t take long for bacteria to spread
throughout the restrooms after improper cleaning with soaps and
detergents that don’t contain disinfectants. Because of improper
cleaning and sanitation of restrooms and toilets, an individual may
become exposed to these bacteria. Pathogens and bacteria’s that are
ejected during flushing can be transmitted to inhalation. And these are
called pathogenic enteric bacteria, which are also the bacteria that
colonize cleaning supplies for restrooms and appear in the biofilm
found in toilets. An example of this bacteria is Salmonella, it can grow
on the other side of toilet rims and can cause symptoms including fever,
headache, and diarrhea. According to quantitative microbial risk
assessment, both aerosol and fomites in restrooms pose significant and
potential danger to one’s health. Control of odors is socially important
and believed to be a societal measure of cleanliness.

Unsanitized water sources can lead to contamination, spread of
bacteria and pathogen transmission. Handwashing is one of the things
that could protect and individual from bacteria and viruses, clean water
sources and clean restrooms are one of the most essential needs for it
to be effective and possible. Having clean water contributes to a cleaner
environment, having this said water sources should be properly cleaned
and sanitized so that no harmful transmission of bacteria’s and
pathogens will occur. It is one of the primary needs of a school to
maintain a clean and healthy environment. Base on studies without
clean water sources and sanitized restrooms could lead to diarrheal
diseases. In the year 2015 almost 1400 children died every day because
of diarrhea. Handwashing is one of the most effective ways for you to
prevent it from transmitting to you
