Switchgear Technology

• Designed for indoor or outdoor use

• Composed of three separate poles linked by rods to the operating
mechanism which can be either mechanical or hydraulic vertical or
horizontal alignment of the interrupting chambers depending on the
performance level.
• Like all circuit-breakers, acts as a protective device
• Characterised by :
• the current values to be interrupted: up to 120 kA
• by the rated currents they must continuously transmit: up to 16
kA.
-> These performance ratings explain the volume of
these circuit breakers.

FKG2 blast principle

SF6 is both a dielectric and an

interrupting agent
Dielectric : for generator breakers, the
rated voltage levels are relatively
low (20 kV).
Interrupting agent: the energies
involved during interruptions require
a particularly high SF6 density.
The SF6 blast principle combines the
auto-pneumatic and thermodynamic
principles for the FKG2 circuit
breaker series.

SKG disconnector switch

Inspection ports –
• Safety mechanism position
• Used to separate and isolate any part
of a circuit to work in full safety
• Ensuring in open position an insulation
distance meeting the following
requirements :

• electrical withstand between input

and output,
• electrical withstand between live part
and the exposed conductive part SKG2

SKG disconnector switch

As a safety mechanism, its open or closed position

must be clearly reported to operators with position
indicators linked to the operating mechanism

The signalisation from the relaying, the disconnector

Switch main contacts must be visible

-> A visible interruption is needed

SKG disconnector switch

• The disconnector switch has no breaking capacity

• Its tripping operation will always be conditioned
by the «open» position of its corresponding circuit
breaker. Main contacts
• In «closed» position, the disconnector switch
must allow rated current transit within the heat-
up limits set out in the standards
• It must also withstand the short-circuit current
transit during the rated period.

SKG disconnector switch

The disconnector switch operations are driven by the CMK slow-

operating mechanism.
These operations are triple-pole by means of suitable rods.

MKG2 earthing switches and IKG2 start-up switches

• used to earth part of the circuit

• must be sized to transit short-circuit current during the rated
time
• not designed to withstand rated current transit in continuous
service

MKG2 earthing switches and IKG2 start-up switches

In open position, it must meet the following requirements :

• electrical withstand between live part and exposed conductive part,
• impulse withstand.

The IKG2 start-up switch

• used to supply a synchronous machine in order to ensure that it

is started in synchro with the turbine to allow the latter to
switch to its alternator mode.
