Introduction

On-the-job training allows student to learn more about our chosen

industry and put what we have studied in school into practice. It aids in the
development of the trainee’s competence. Of course, when a student is
skilled enough, we will be able to do tasks successfully, and this training
improves the students professionalism while dealing with others. OJT also
improves the student’s critical thinking skills and discipline while we are having
training in a company. Our capacity to make informed decisions and weigh
relevant factors will improve.

University of the Cordilleras , College of Engineering, Department of

Civil Engineering were able to conduct and give the students an opportunity
to be exposed in an actual field of work especially that engineering really
needs hands-on exposure to students. Following proper protocols, the
department successfully exposed students to construction sites with limited
time but full of knowledge and learnings. Even little details learnt during On-
the-Job Training can be implemented when students are already working.
Students will be educated not only intellectually but also socially. We will no
longer struggle with how we operate and communicate with others. It also
allows us to immerse ourselves in our chosen subject, get experience, and
develop the skills required for the industry in which we are interested. Working
with experienced personnel allows one to see how the job is done correctly.

We/I, Civil Engineering student have decided to take our On-The-Job

training at the J.C. ANDULAY CONSTRUCTION AND SUPPLY, in coordination
with Engr. Allen Fabro since it known to have a good level of performance in
terms of building infrastructure and to have a responsible and dedicated
employees.

Engineering Environment

In this company one of their priorities are to improve the quality of the
environment and maintain the environment to protect human health, protect
nature’s beneficial ecosystems, and improve environmental-related
enhancement of the quality of human life.

In the site that we were assigned we were able to witness the

importance of considering the surroundings wherein before and after of their
work they use to clean the working area for better and safe workplace.

OJT DETAILS

OJT is not just about gathering additional knowledge, it is more about being
exposed to the real work and being familiar to its jobsite. And the people we
will encounter during the actual job.

At first week, we were oriented about precautionary measures to be

implemented in the workplace. We learned that safety is the most important
thing to learn because a single mistake can risk our life.

5
We also studied the plans, that was the first time we were able to see a
complete project plan. We were tasked to take pictures of the development
and create an accomplishment report to be submitted to our instructor for a
weekly report.

We were also tasked to maintain the schedule board of manpower. It

used to monitor work assignment. Working in a construction site is not an
easy job. You should prepar for the scorching heat of the sun, coldness of the
rain and even the air filled with dusts. You should learn to get along with
different people from different cultures and from different stands in life, from
the laborers to the project manager. Respect everyone and they will respect
you every time.

Duties and Responsibilities

Along with networking and gaining mentorship, civil engineering interns

will spend time working on skills great for later in our career journeys. We will
learn how to plan and execute technical production, communicate our
vissions effectively, and collaborate with a team on a shared goal.

Major Accomplishments

The practicum experience is worth the time effort, and hard work. The
short period of time that I have spent in the JC Andulay Construction
contributed a lot in increasing my awareness and understanding the
practical application of my course. It has been led me to realization to be
more eager in pursuing the bright and strong outlook of my future. My limited
and idological grounding was enriched by my practical experience from a
more realistic foundation of social conditions. The experience influenced by
commitment, competence and compassion as a BS Civil Engineering student
who is soon to be a part of the society outside a working professional.

Project Description

Project Name: Contract Package 2: Basic Infrastructure Program: A

Construction (Completion) Of Building (Covered Court) at Lindawan
Elementary School, Barangay Lucnab, Outlook Baguio City.

Observations and Comments

 We observed a slow accomplishment that tends to delay of schedules

because of several reasons like slow delivery of materials and many
absence of workers.

 Poor lighting especially during the overtime that increases the risk of
accidents.

 We, as trainees are introduced as Civil Engineer. We need to deal with

that in order to make the workers or people around us to believe in our
explanations and directions.

 At the project site, we observed that all workers inside the working zone
must wear their proper uniform during working hours.

 Another thing that the trainee observed was the rules and regualtions that
the JC Andulay company initiated. We learned to wear safety shoes,
hard hat and uniform for saftey reasons. Even in withdrawing materials we
still need that.
