Figure 1.3. The numbers indicate the order in which the points are usually tapped.

For
points not in the center of the body (numbers 2, 3, 4, 7, 9, 10, 11, and 12), tap on the
corresponding points on both sides of the body.
 1. Top-of-Head Point (Crown Chakra). Tap on the top center of your head with either
hand. For this point, if you use all five fingers, you will be sure to hit the right spot.

 2. Inside-Eyebrow Points. The points where your eyebrows end; near the bridge of your
nose.

 3. Side-of-Eye Points. Outside edges of your eye sockets.

 4. Under-Eye Points. The bony ridge of your eye sockets centered under your eyes.

 5. Under-the-Nose Point. Slightly closer to the bottom of your nose than the top of your
lip.

 6. Under-the-Lip Point. In the middle of the groove beneath your lower lip.

 7. Collarbone Points. Find the inside corners of your collarbone and drop into the
hollows that are just beneath them.

 8. Thymus Point. Center of your chest, also known as the Heart Chakra.

 9. Side-of-Chest Points. About four inches below your armpits. These are the “imitate a
monkey” points.

 10. Outside-of-Leg Points. Between your hips and knees where a pant seam would be.
Tap where your middle finger gravitates.

 11. Side-of-Hand Points. Clap together the outside edges of your hands (little finger
sides); also known as the Karate-Chop Point.

 12. Back-of-Hand Points. With two, three, or four fingers of one hand, tap on the back of
your other hand on the valley leading to the “V” between your little finger and fourth finger.
This is the only pair of points that can’t be tapped simultaneously on the left and right sides.
It is also known as the Gamut Point.

The Basic 12-Step Tapping Protocol on a Page

Phase 1 Preparation Phase:

• Choose your initial focus.

• Rate your discomfort about it.

• Create a Reminder Phrase to keep it psychologically active.

• Formulate an Acceptance Statement about the issue and the feelings it triggers.

Phase 2 The Tapping Cycle:

• Anchor your Acceptance Statement.

• Complete the first round of tapping (while saying your Reminder Phrase).

• Practice the Integration Procedure.

• Complete the second round of tapping (again with your Reminder Phrase).

• Take a new SUD rating.

Phase 3 Adjusting the Protocol:

• Modify your Acceptance Statement.

• Address the aspects of the situation by going beyond your Reminder Phrase.

Phase 4 Testing Your Results

The Integration Procedure

While tapping on the valley leading to the spot where your ring finger and little finger
meet, do the following:

1. Close your eyes.

2. Open your eyes.

3. Move your eyes down to the right.

4. Move your eyes down to the left.

5. Circle your eyes, rotating them 360 degrees in one direction.

6. Circle your eyes, rotating them 360 degrees in the opposite direction.

7. Hum the first few bars of a familiar song.

8. Count slowly and deliberately from one to five.

9. Hum again (the end of the traditional “Nine-Gamut” Procedure).

End with the Eye Sweep.

“Eye Sweep.” Begin by keeping your face straight ahead, eyes looking down. Consciously
send the energy involved in your issue out your eyes and into the floor. Then, again keeping
your face straight ahead, slowly and deliberately move your eyes across the floor, up the
wall or background, and up to the ceiling or sky, continually sending the energies involved in
your issue out your eyes.
Anchor your Acceptance Statement

Figure 2.1. With your middle finger—or your second, third, and fourth fingers—rub
firmly along the seam where your arms connect to your chest (or find other points on
your chest that feel a bit sore when you press on them).

1. Memorize your Acceptance Statement.

2. See if you have any soreness on the points where your arms meet your chest (Figure
2.1). These are the neurolymphatic reflex points on the Central Meridian and often
accumulate excess energy. Rubbing them releases the excess and stimulates one of
your most important energy pathways.
3. Firmly rub these points (but not so hard as to risk bruising yourself) as you say the
first half of your Acceptance Statement out loud, with focus: “Even though [insert a
variation of your Reminder Phrase].” For instance, “Even though I forgot my lines
during the play . . .” Alternatives if these points aren’t sore or if they are sore due to an
injury or overexertion are to find other points on your chest that are sore or to clap
the sides of your hands together (see Figure 2.2) while saying the first half of your
Acceptance Statement.
4. Then place both hands over the center of your chest (your Heart Chakra) and state the
positive affirmation: “I love and deeply accept myself,” “I love myself and accept my
feelings,” “I accept myself just as I am,” “I’m learning to love myself,” “I know that deep
down I am a good and worthy person,” or any other variation you choose.
5. Repeat until you have said your Acceptance Statement three times while massaging
any chest sore spots or clapping the sides of your hands together during the “Even
though” part and with your hands over your Heart Chakra during the positive
affirmation part.
