Canva Introduction Exercise
This exercise is designed to help students get started with Canva, a graphic design
platform used for creating visual content. Throughout this exercise, students will
explore Canva's interface, learn how to use various tools, and create a simple design
project.
Objective:
By the end of this exercise, students will be familiar with Canva's main features and
will have created a basic design using text, images, and shapes.
Activity 1: Introduction to Canva
1. Open the Canva website (https://www.canva.com/) and create a free account if
you don't have one.
2. Once logged in, explore the homepage to get an overview of the available
templates, design tools, and features.
3. Watch the introductory video tutorial on the Canva homepage to understand the
basic functions.
Activity 2: Exploring the Canva Dashboard
1. Navigate through the Canva dashboard to familiarize yourself with the layout,
including the toolbar, templates, and design elements.
2. Identify the following features:
- Templates: Find a template for a social media post, flyer, or business card.
- Elements: Explore shapes, lines, illustrations, and icons available in the

- Text: Check out different font styles and text effects.
3. Share your observations with a partner and discuss which features you found
most interesting.
Activity 3: Creating Your First Design
1. Start a new design project by selecting a blank template or choosing a pre-made
one.
2. Add the following elements to your design:
- A background color or image.
- Text: Write a short message or quote using at least two different fonts.
- Shapes: Include at least two shapes and customize their colors.
3. Save your design and share it with a classmate for feedback.
Activity 4: Customizing and Downloading Your Design
1. Make any adjustments to your design based on the feedback you received.
2. Explore additional features, such as filters, transparency, or animation (if
applicable).
3. Download your design in a format of your choice (e.g., PNG, JPEG, or PDF).
4. Share the downloaded file with your instructor or upload it to a shared folder.
