Lab Manual

DNS using Packet Tracer.

Task-1 Implementation of DNS Server in Packet tracer:


DNS server is used to resolve IP address to Domain name and vice versa.

Step 01: Assign Static IP Address = 192.168.1.1 to DNS Server machine.

Step02: Go to “Services” tab of DNS server and open DNS interface on the DNS Service

Step03: Add a URL: www.myspace.com with IP= 192.168.1.1

Step 04: In “Services” tab go to HTTP interface edit the index.html file and delete the html script
excluding starting and ending tags, add some text to show on client side as shown in figure below.

Step 05: Accessing Web URL on client PC having IP=192.168.1.2 ( Assign this IP statically on
its IP configuration Interface & DNS = 192.168.1.1 )

Step 06: Go to Desktop Tab then Web Browser and then type www.mypage.com press go DNS
server will authenticate this URL and index.html page of www.mypage.com with Text message:
Welcome to mypage.com will be displayed.

Lab Task:

1. Design a network model in which five plus PCs connect to the same
DNS server to access a website.

2. Design a network model in which five plus PCs connect to two


different DNS servers to access a website.
