1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this document is to describe the work procedure to be adopted for repair works in
concrete structures in ATMOSPHERE PROJECT.
2. SCOPE
This work procedure should employ the following repair works:-

A. Honeycombs: voids left in concrete due to improper workmanship.

B. Major Defect at soffit and vertical location : Defect at soffit and vertical location in major
volume/area.

C. Shortage of cover in reinforced Concrete: Cover to the reinforcement is less or partly/fully

exposed reinforcement on surface of the structure.
3. REFERENCES
Following documents in totality or in part shall form the reference documents:

Product Data Sheet of Sikadur 32 LP,Sikatop 122 HS,Sika Rep microcrete 1(Make:SIKA)
Or
Product Data Sheet of Concresive 1414,Emaco S48 CT, Emaco S66 T(Make: BASF)

4. RESPONSIBILITIES
Site In-Charge Shall report to the Construction Manager.
Shall be responsible for control, supervision and direction
for implementation of this procedure.

Site Engineer Shall report to the Site In Charge.

Shall carry out the work as per the drawings and
specifications.

QA/QC Engineer Shall report to the QA/QC In-charge.

QA Engineer shall carry out all field Activities / Checking

Safety Engineer Shall report to Safety-in-charge

Shall take all precaution measures in working areas to avoid
any accidents.

5. RESOURCES

1) Personnel : Site Engineer,QA/QC Engineer , Safety Engineer,Workmen

2) Plant & Equipment : Chisel,Hammer,Painting brush

3) Material :Bonding Agent, Repair Mortar, Mason’s trowel,Tray,Cylinder for measuring

6. METHODOLOGY
6.1 ERECTION OF WORKING PLATFORM
In case of repair works to be done at height, proper platform for working at height will be provided
by suitable scaffolding/staging.

6.2 CHIPPING OF WEAK CONCRETE

The weak and unsound concrete shall be chipped of from structures(Walls/Columns/Slabs/Beams
etc) manually or by suitable mechanical means.

6.3 CONCRETING
It will be done stepwise as stated below

A. OLD TO NEW CONCRETE / MORTAR BONDING AGENT:-

 Before placing of new concrete/mortar over old concrete / hardened concrete for ensuring
proper bond, epoxy structural bonding agents are used.
 Clean the old concrete surface thoroughly in order to ensure the same to be free from all loose
particles, grease, oil etc.
 Apply 2 component epoxy-bonding agents Sikadur 32 LP as per manufacture’s specification.

Apply 2 component epoxy-bonding agents Concresive 1414 as per manufacture’s specification

 Place the new concrete/mortar, so long the above bonding agent is still in tacky condition.

B. PATCH REPAIR (up to 50mm): Identify the damage area in presence of Engineer-in-charge.
Remove all loose, damaged concrete up to 50mm behind the bars properly till sound concrete is
reached. Wash it thoroughly with clean water.
Apply the bonding Agent followed by Repair Mortar when the bond coat is tacky.

B. MICROCONCRETE (More than 50mm):

SIKA REP MICROCRETE 1: Free flow high strength ready mix micro concrete – Sika Rep
Microcrete 1 should be poured within 4 hrs of application of epoxy bond coat Sikadur 32 LP
in the parent surface. Maintain water powder ratio of 0.12 for Sika Rep Microcrete. Concrete
should be mixed thoroughly for 2 to 3 minutes until it forms a mix of uniform homogeneous
and flow able consistency. Micro concrete can be used in layers if the patch is deep as per the
manufacture recommendations.
Or
EMACO S 66T: Free flow high strength ready mix micro concrete – Emaco S66 T should be
poured within 6 hrs of application of epoxy bond coat Concresive 1414 in the parent surface.
Maintain water powder ratio of 0.14 for Emaco S66 T. Concrete should be mixed thoroughly
for 2 to 3 minutes until it forms a mix of uniform homogeneous and flow able consistency.
Micro concrete can be used in layers if the patch is deep as per the manufacture
recommendations.

7. CURING: The repair area should be cured with 7 days water curing.
8. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Following precautions to be taken

 Ensure that the work zone is marked as non-smoking area during the application
 Use safety goggles during Chipping operation.
 Wear adequate safety shoes.
 Keep fire extinguisher near the work zone.
Lighting

Suitable lights for application work during night shift should be provided in and around
the work area.
