Homemade Candy
Ingredients:
 1 cup water
 1 cup granulated sugar
 1 cup light corn syrup
 1/2 tsp. peppermint oil or other flavour

Directions:
 Sprinkle a thick coat of powdered sugar on a cookie sheet.
 Combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup and water in a heavy saucepan.
 Cook over medium-high heat until the hard-crack stage. (When the candy caramel cracks, then
dip into cold water).
 Remove from heat.
 Add the peppermint oil or other flavour. Stir well.
 Pour onto the cookie sheet.
 Sprinkle with more powdered sugar.
 Cut with a knife as soon as cool enough to handle.

The Story Of Toba Lake
Once upon a time, there was a man who was living in north Sumatra. He lived in a simple hut in a
farming field. They did some gardening and fishing for his daily life.
One day, while the man was do fishing, he caught a big golden fish in his trap. It was the biggest catch
which he ever had in his life. Surprisingly, this fish turned into a beautiful princess. He felt in love with
her and proposed her to be his wife. She said; “Yes, but you have to promise not to tell anyone about
the secret that I was once a fish, otherwise there will be a huge disaster”. The man made the deal and
they got married, lived happily and had a daughter.
Few years later, this daughter would help bringing lunch to her father out in the fields. One day, his
daughter was so hungry and she ate his father’s lunch. Unfortunately, he found out and got furious, and
shouted; “You damned daughter of a fish”. The daughter ran home and asked her mother. The mother
started crying, felt sad that her husband had broken his promise.
Then she told her daughter to run up the hills because a huge disaster was about to come. When her
daughter left, she prayed. Soon there was a big earthquake followed by non-stop pouring rain. The
whole area got flooded and became Toba Lake. She turned into a fish again and the man became the
island of Samosir.

A kangaroo is an animal found only in Australia. It has a smaller relative, called a wallaby, which lives on
the Australian island of Tasmania and in New Guinea.

Kangaroos eat grass and plants.They have short front legs, but very long and strong back legs and a tail.
These are used for sitting up and for jumping. Kangaroos have been known to make forward jumps of
over eight metres, and leap across fences more than three metres high. They can also run at speeds of
over 45 kilometres per hour.

The largest kangaroos are the Great grey kangaroo and the Red Kangaroo. Adult grows to a length of
1.60 metres and weighs over 90 kilos.

Kangaroos are marsupials. This means that the female kangaroo has an external pouch on the front of
