Name of weapon- Dagger ( tkafc;k). Kind of weapon- Single
Sharp edged, pointed weapon.
Type of weapon- Dangerous weapon.
Description of weapon:
Total length of weapon- 37 cm.
Blade: is of Metallic. Texture:- Smooth & serrated designed
margins at both lower edges of blade
Length:- 24 cm
Width:- 3.5 cm at base & pointed at tip. Thickness:-0.3 cm at
sharp edge & 0.2 cm at blunt edge.
Edges/ margins- one edge sharp & another blunt.
Joint- Type- Fixed. Handle is of-wodden with Metalic cover,
covered by green coloured texo tape . Texture - Smooth .
Length- 13 cm. & Circumference of handle of 9 c.m.
Stains/ foreign bodies: Rusty stains noted over blade of weapon
on both sides on naked eye examination.
Injuries possible:- Stab, Incised, Linear Abrasion.

DEFINITION:
INJURY: AS PER S. 44 IPC
The word "injury" denotes any harm whatever illegally caused to any person, in body, mind, reputation or
property.
HURT: AS PER S. 319 IPC
Whoever causes bodily pain, disease or infirmity to any person is said to cause hurt.
SIMPLE INJURY:
Simple injury means injury which is simple in nature & heals rapidly without leaving any
permanent deformity or disfiguration.
GRIEVOUS HURT: LEGAL DEFINITION AS PER SECTION 320 IPC
The following kinds of hurt only are designated as "grievous"
1. Emasculation
2. Permanent privation of sight of either eye.
3. Permanent privation of hearing of either ear.
4. Privation of any member or joint
5. Destruction or permanent impairment of powers of any member or joint.
6. Permanent disfigurement of head or face.
7. Fracture or dislocation of bone or tooth.
8. Any hurt which endangers life or which causes sufferer to be during the period of 20 days
in severe bodily pain, or unable to follow his ordinary pursuits.

EXERCISE 1: Deepak K. Jadhav, a 20 year old unemployed youth & known antisocial element son of Keshav
L. Jadhav, resident of Room No. 33, Rehmat Manzil, , subhash nagar, Kolhapur, was brought to casualty
OPD of this institution at 11.30 pm last night by PC 11670 Vilas Sathe of PS Kolhapur city, Kolhapur, with
alleged history of injuries allegedly sustained in a fight with a rival gang about half an hour earlier.On
examination he was conscious and coherent, but not cooperative. His clothing was blood stained, his shirt
was torn and you recorded the fallowing injuries:
1. A SPINDLE SHAPED SPLIT LACERATION, with reddish clotted margins , 3x0.2cm at its widest muscle
deep, surrounded by diffuse swelling & reddish blue bruising in an area 6x2.5cm in greatest
dimension, horizontally placed over right side of his forehead from the midline outwards.
2. A LINEAR INCISED WOUND with reddish clotted edges margins, 6cm long x0.1cm extending from
the tragus of left ear to the angle of the mouth on the left side; and
3. A WEDGE SHAPED STAB WOUND, 2.5cm x0.2cm at its base, vertically placed over the front of the
abdomen in the midline, just under the xiphisternal notch.
Inspector Jayant K. Harne, Duty Officer at Kolhapur city, has requested you to give him a report of your
medicolegal examination of Deepak K. Jadhav. Kindly do so.
EXERCISE NO. 2 (For students, to be written in journal)
Ganash H. Patil a 20 year old male student of the second MBBS course of this institution, resident of Room
No. 171, undergraduate boy’s hostel, RCSM GMC, Kolhapur, was brought to the casualty OPD of this
hospital at 23:30hrs last night by the warden of the hostel. Ganash H. Patil had allegedly been involved in
fight with two drunken youths in a nearby bar about one hour previously, in which he had been beaten
by them with fists and iron rods. The warden has already registered a complaint with PS laxmipuri,
Kolhapur, and Shri Hari Savant, Police inspector and Duty Officer, is forwarding to you a letter requesting
your report on the medicolegal examination of Ganash H. Patil.
On examination, Ganash H. Patil was conscious coherent and cooperative, his clothing was untidy and
shirt bloodstained, and you noted the fallowing injuries:
1. A LINEAR SPLIT LACERATION, with reddish clot, 3.0cm x0.2 cm at its widest x aponeurosis deep,
extending horizontally outward from the midline from the glabella over the left side of the forehead.
2. AN IRREGULAR REDDISH BLUE BRUISE, 2cm x 2.5 cm in greatest dimension, over right cheek bone and,
3. DIFFUSE TENDER SWELLING WITH VISIBLE DEFORMITY, 11 cm in maximum length x all around the
lower half of the left forearm.
Kindly prepare a report of your medicolegal examination and send it to the PI, PS Kolhapur Gramin.
