For the facilitator:

This Self Learning Module (SLM) is a self-paced and child-


friendly learning resource. The lesson is anchored in
developing the Most Essential Learning Competencies following
the old competency distribution in English 3 of the K to 12
Enhanced Basic Education Curriculum.

Before going through the module, orient the learners with


the signs and icons of this learning resource. Remind them to
read the instructions carefully and must follow the sequence of
the activities accordingly.

Let them write their answers of the pre-test, assessment,


and other exercises on a separate sheet of paper. They can
refer their answers to the Self-Check Section found at the last
part of this module.

The Self-Learning Module in English for Grade 3 students


is carefully planned and written to meet the needs of the 21 st
century learners. It is anchored on the Most Essential Learning
Competencies in English of the K to 12 Basic Education
Curriculum.
The main goal of this module is to help and guide the
learners master the lesson presented in this module. Also, the
language used is simple and conversational to cater the
diverse learners in this learning situation. The lesson included
in this module is one of the Most Essential Learning
Competencies following the old competency distribution in
English for grade 3 learners.
This module has one lesson.
 Lesson 7: Words with Initial and Final Consonant

expected to:

2. spell out basic words with initial and final blends;

listed below. Observe correct pronunciation of the words and
try to use them in your own sentences.

What is Consonant Blend?


A consonant blend is a combination of consonants that
are placed together without being separated by a vowel. The
most common consonant blends are combinations of two or
three consonants together at the beginning or end of a word
that creates distinct sound.

Blends are found either at the beginning or end of a word.

Initial Consonant Blend – blends that are found at the


beginning of a word.

Examples:

cl – clapclean clear clog closeclass

The babies clap their hands. The water is clean.

sn- snap snow snail snacksnoresneeze

The boys snap their fingers. The girls eat their snack.

Final Consonant Blend – blends that are found at the


end of a word.

Examples:

-st fast past last dust cost post

The car is very fast. The face masks cost ₱40.00.

-ld cold sold told fold gold hold

The weather is cold. They sold their van.

words inside the table have initial consonant blend. Try to
understand the meaning of the given words as you read.

sentences. The table below contains words that have both
initial and final consonant blends.

As you noticed, the words begin and end with consonant


blends. Now, try to think of some words like these. The more
words you know, the more sentences you can make. Try it! It is
a good way of vocabulary boosting. You can do it!
