1. Recently DRDO successfully test-fired long-range glide bomb, 'Gaurav' in Odisha.
➢ This smart bomb was dropped from the SU 30 MKI fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force.
Long-range glide bombs are smart bombs that enable the Air Force to attack targets that are
beyond the reach of conventional weapons.
➢ DRDO developing Gaurav and Gautam bombs.
➢ The Gaurav bomb is a winged long-range glide bomb weighing 1000 kg and having a glide
range of 100 km.
➢ The Gautam bomb, which weighs 550 kg, is a non-winged long-range glide bomb with a
glide range of 30 km.
2. Odisha launches India's first 24/7 rice ATM.
➢ Odisha has launched Annapurti Anaj ATM, the India's first 24/7 rice dispenser, which will
revolutionise the Public Distribution System (PDS).
➢ This machine can deliver up to 50 kg of grain in five minutes with an error rate of only
0.01%, ensuring accurate delivery.
➢ Initially launched in Bhubaneswar, it will be expanded to all 30 districts of Odisha,
potentially rolling out across the country.
3. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi unveiled the Subhadra scheme.
➢ Under the scheme, Rs 50,000 has been promised to be given to one crore women aged
between 21 and 60 years in the next five years, with a total budget of Rs 55,825 crore.
➢ The funds will be distributed in annual installments of Rs 10,000, divided into two
installments of Rs 5,000 each on Rakhi Purnima and International Women's Day.
➢ The Subhadra scheme will start from the financial year 2024-25 and continue till
2028-29. The eligible women will get ₹50,000 in five annual installments,
4. Tanvi Patri won the women's singles title of the Asian Under-15 Junior Championships
2024.
➢ 14-year-old Tanvi Patri of Odisha defeated Vietnamese Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen in the
final.
➢ Events – August 20-25 in Chengdu, China
➢ She is the third Indian woman player to win the Badminton Asian Under-15 singles title.
➢ Note: – Earlier in 2017, Samiya Imad Farooqui and in 2019 Tasnim Mir won the singles
title at the Asian Under-15 Championship.
5. Two Odisha-born scientists Dr Digendranath Swain and Dr Swarup Kumar Parida were
awarded the country’s highest science award - Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar - by President
Droupadi Murmu at New Delhi.
➢ Dr Parida, a scientist with National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR) at New Delhi, was instrumental in
developing various concepts on integrated next-generation molecular breeding. He deployed it for efficient genetic
dissection of complex stress tolerance, yield and plant architectural traits in order to accelerate crop improvement of
rice and chickpea.
➢ Similarly, Dr Swain heads the experimental techniques section (EXMD/STR) at ISRO. He is responsible for structural
qualification of launch of vehicles/rocket components using advanced experimental stress analysis tools and optical
methods.
6. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Mamata Mohanta has been elected to Rajya Sabha
unopposed from Odisha.
➢ As BJP’s dummy candidate Jagannath Pradhan withdrew his nomination on Tuesday
clearing the path for party’s official nominee Mamta Mohanta for Rajya Sabha byelection
for the lone seat from Odisha, the latter is going to be elected unopposed to the upper
house. The byelections to 12 Rajya Sabha seats, including the one from Odisha, are
scheduled to be held on September 3.
7. A total of 50 teachers including two from Odisha have been selected for the National Teachers’ Awards
this year, announced the Union Education Ministry.
➢ Dwiti Chandra Sahu and Santosh Kumar Kar are the two teachers from Odisha who will get the prestigious
awards this year for their exemplary contributions to the teaching profession.
➢ Sahu is a teacher of the Government High School Billesu in Rayagada and Kar is a teacher of Jaya Durga
High School in Narla Road in Kalahandi district.
➢ The National Teachers’ Award carries a certificate of merit, a cash award of Rs 50,000 and a silver medal.
8. Advik Samarpit Sahoo, a 10-year-old student from SAI International
School, has secured a bronze medal at the 10th Asian ITF Taekwondo
Championship held in Bengaluru.
9. Odisha Government Honors State’s Sportspersons and Coaches with

8. Biju Patnaik Sports Award for Excellence in Sport s Journalism: Sukesh Ranjan Behera
9. Biju Patnaik Bravery Award: Rudra Prasad Malik
Each of the awardee was given cash award of Rs 2 lakh each
along with the trophy and certificate. Kishore Jena received Rs 3 lakh while Lazarus Barla was
presented a cash award of Rs 4 lakh along with the trophy and certificate.

12. Bivarani Patra, a mountaineer, of Merandali village, Odapada block, Dhenkanal
district, has brought glory to Odisha by reaching the highest mountain peak in
Europe, Mount Elbrus.
13. Odia Film ‘Daman’ Wins Best Odia Film at the 70th National Film Awards.
➢ “Daman” tells the compelling story of a young doctor, Dr. Siddharth Mohanty, portrayed
by Babushaan Mohanty, who is posted to a remote area in Odisha’s Malkangiri district,
infamous for Naxal activities and lack of basic facilities.
➢ This accolade includes the prestigious Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of ₹2 lakh.
➢ The film, which was released on November 4, 2022, is written and directed by Vishal
Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka.
14. Noted dramatist Gopal Sahu, who donned the role of Kansa in Bargarh’s Dhanu Yatra,
passed away on Tuesday. He was 70. He had been ailing from diabetes for the past several
years and was admitted to a private hospital in Jharsuguda town on Monday after he fell sick.
During the treatment, he breathed his last, leaving behind his rich contribution to the world of
drama in Odisha.
➢ Sahu played Kansa in the world’s biggest open-air theatre, the Dhanu Yatra, for 23 long years
in his life.
15. Odisha’s junior girls’ football team secured a 4-2 victory against Chhattisgarh
in their opening match of the Junior Girls’ National Football Championship held
at Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh.
16. 14-year-old Dhinidhi Desinghu from Karnataka, India’s youngest swimmer
at the Paris Olympics, set a new national record at the 40th Sub-Junior and
50th Junior National Aquatics Championship in Bhubaneswar.
17. Senior IPS Officer Rashmi Ranjan Swain Appointed DGP of Jammu and
Kashmir.

medals in the Khelo India Eastern Women's Judo competition held in Shillong.
25. Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan ch. Majhi felicitated ace Odisha hockey
player Amitrohi das with a cash award of ₹4 Cr and congratulated him on being
the only Odia player to win two Olympic medals.

26. Odisha's cycling star Swasti Singh brought glory to the state by winning
the gold medal in the 40 km race at the Khelo India Women's Cycling League
held in Haryana.
27. 63rd National Open Athletics Championships , Prashanti Sahu of Odisha
won the silver medal in the 100m hurdles .
28. Odisha's Lalu Prasad Bhoi won the gold medal in the 100m race at the
63rd National Open Athletics Championships held in Bengaluru.
