Objectives
Learn where the CIMPLICITY HMI Screens are located
Learn how to Navigate CIMPLICITY HMI screens
Learn to quickly determine what might be preventing
the turbine from starting
Change the Units of Measure displayed in CIMPLICITY
Control the appearance and layout of the control screens

Slide 2
Overview
CIMPLICITY is a suite of software programs used to
visualize operations using graphical screens
In order to control the turbine we use the CIMPLICITY
human-machine-interface (HMI)
CIMPLICITY uses CimView to display screens for
operations
Variables are designed to be broadcast from controllers to
the network
All variables from the controllers can then be received by
the HMI and represented graphically

Slide 3
Where CIMPLICITY screens are located
Folder on Windows 7 based
HMI computers:
E:\Site\Screens
Cimplicity Screens end with
a .cim file extension

Slide 4
Opening a Cimplicity Screen for Viewing

Double-clicking a screen file name will launch

CimView and initiate communications with the
data source(s) – usually the controllers
CIMPLICITY screens can be opened by double
clicking on any file with extension .cim; however,
names that start with “tp_” will not have
communications with the data source(s)
There is usually a desktop shortcut

and control.

CimView displays screens that were created in CimEdit for

specific applications.

Slide 6
Navigating CIMPLICITY Screens
To navigate, use the navigation bar on
the right side of the screen
Multiple levels of navigation are
indicated by buttons or tabs
- Level 1 – system
- Level 2 – groupings of screens in a system
- Level 3 – individual screens

operator to
raise/lower speed
and Volts

Breaker close button visible and enabled

when operator clicks the button
Slide 12
Loss of Communications
When CIMPLICITY is not able to communicate with
a Mark VIe controller:
• All Buttons turn black
• All Text and Numeric fields show #####

Slide 13
Loss of Communications - Possible
Hardware Problems
• Loss of power to the Mark VIe controller or
network switches
• Broken or disconnected UDH cables
• Broken or disconnected PDH cable – Viewer
only
• Loss of power to HMI Server – Viewer only

Slide 14

CimLayout
With CIMPLICITY version 8.2 and higher, we have the
option of viewing the Alarms either on a dedicated screen
or in conjunction with the control screens

Control screen + Alarm

Alarm Viewer Viewer

Slide 18
CimLayout - 2
When viewing the control screens and the alarm screen
simultaneously we can adjust the appearance with the
CimLayout Configuration.cimlayout file. This file is usually
found in the E:\site\screens folder.

Slide 19

Editing the CimLayout Configuration.cimlayout file allows
us to choose the default initial control screen and also the
Alarm Viewer screen

Slide 21
CimLayout - 5
By editing the AlarmViewer.cim file we can specify which
.AVVIew file we want to use as the alarm banner

See next slide

Slide 22

In this box we select the

.AVView file which
defines how the alarms
will appear under the
control screens.
Remember that it is
possible, and potentially
beneficial, to have
multiple .AVView files.
