2. Brief Outline (Problem Identification and Significance)

 Ionic thrusters are known for producing high thrust for various purpose however, the
power consumption is known to be very high resulting in higher risks and lesser
sustainability. Reducing the power consumption could result in earning incremental
returns in investments.
 The thrust-to-stability ratio in the thrusters could result in significant problem and can
cause instability to the said machines, improving it will result in better and smoother
stability.
 Enhancing the thrust performance is a critical and most important aspect of
developing the thrusters, improving and maintaining the thrust power could result in
improving the fuel and engine maintenance costs.

3. Objectives
 To simulate the 'Mechanical Structure' on Solidworks.
 To Simulate the 'Voltage Booster Circuitry' on MATLAB.
 To implement the 'Simulated Model' on prototype.
F/SOP/FYDP 30/08/2024
4. Scope
 Development of advanced algorithms tailored to the specific dynamics of ionic
thrusters.
 Development of pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques to control the output
voltage and current of the power converter.
 Design and execution of comprehensive testing procedures to evaluate the system's
performance under various operating conditions.
 Simulation of the system using MATLAB/Simulink or other modeling tools to verify its
functionality and stability.
5. Proposed Methodology
 Using ‘Simulation Models’ and hardware-in-the-loop testing to evaluate the control
system's behavior.
 Creating ‘Mathematical Models’ of the ionic thruster and its components.
 Designing ‘Control algorithms’ considering stability, robustness, and performance
objectives.
 Deploying the control system based operation on the ionic thruster and possibly
conducting tests to validate its performance in real-world conditions.
 Analyzing the collected data to identify areas for improvement and optimize the
system's performance.

6. Resources Involved
 Power Supply: A high-voltage, high-current power supply is needed to energize the
thruster.
 Microcontroller or Embedded System: A powerful microcontroller or embedded
system capable of high definition processing and control.
 Power Electronics: Components such as transistors, diodes, capacitors, and
inductors will be needed to construct the power converter.
 3D Printer: For printing of parts required for development of prototype.
 Programming Language: Programming languages such as C, C++, or Python could be
used for developing control algorithms.
 Simulation Software: Softwares like MATLAB/Simulink, Solid Works or Python
libraries
Estimated Cost Of Project:
PKR 40,000/-
