Ch –2 ADDITIONS

Additions: The process of adding to find the total value is


known as addition.
• The symbol of addition is “+” ( read as Plus).
• The numbers which we are adding are known as
Addends.
• The total value that we get by adding the numbers is
known as sum or total.
Example:- 4 + 2 = 6
(Addend) (Addend) ( Sum)
• Other names for addition are
sum, plus, increase and total.
Properties of addition:
1. If we do the addition in any order,
we get the same sum.
Example: 3 + 6 = 9
6+3= 9
If we add zero to any number , we get the
same number.
Example:- 9 + 0 = 9
14 + 0 = 14
. If we add 1 to any number, we get the
“after” number or the successor.
Example:- 39 + 1 = 40
18 + 1 = 19
. If we add 10 to any number, then tens
Place increase by 1.
Example:-36 + 10 = 46
.If we add 100 to any number, hundred place
increase by 1.
Example:- 335 + 100 = 435
.If we add 1000 to any number, then there
Will be an increase of 1 in the thousand
Example:- 12465 + 1000 = 13465
