Seeing God’s Message in the teachings of the Church (pg. 58)

1. scribes
2. ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ and ‘You shall love your
neighbor as yourself.’
3. No, because he asked again question to Christ that he thinks will
challenge him. The scribe wanted to insist that what he knows was still
the greatest commandment above on what Christ stated.
4. It is the encouragement of Christ to the scribe. He approved on what the
scribe has – knowledge of the law – but he wants to point out that it is
better that upon having that kind of knowledge will lead him to
conviction of sin, to repentance, to discovery of his need of mercy. Christ
encourages the scribe thats why he said that to him.

Integrating God’s Message in my life

 The social teaching of the Church, a body of doctrine developed by the
Church on matters about building a just society and living out holiness
amidst the challenges of modern society, is based on a foundation that is
unique and very strong.
 WHAT IS THE BASES OF CST?
 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
with all your mind, and with all your strength.
 You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

 WHY CST IS ESSENTIAL?

 The social teaching of the Church helps and guides us to live a holy life

4
despite the many challenges in our society.

 LOVE
 Love is the fundamental aspect of all the teachings of Christ.
 He teaches us that loving our neighbor is the concrete proof of our love
for God.
 This love is the foundation of our apostolate and good works.

 WHAT IS NAME FOR LOVE AS DESCRIBED BY NEW

TESTAMENT WRITERS?

 AGAPE

 his kind of love relates with our relationship with God and our
relationship with our neighbor.
 This love is all-embracing. This is the kind of love that Jesus Christ wants
us to give when He admonished us to "love your enemies."
 It is not a selfish love nor a love that is meant to be shared only with
those who love and care for us
 but it one that is to be shown even to those who offend us.
 Love is the foundation of our relationships and the one that ensures the
smooth progress of these relationships.
 Whatever teachings the Church proclaims in addressing the pressing the
issues in our society, they all spring from love.
 The Church responds to the challenges of the everchanging social,
economic, and political landscapes through its social doctrine as it
continues to strive toward the creation of a society that is fair and equal
and the building up of God's Kingdom of peace, love, and justice on
earth.

 How does Jesus' new love commandments serve as a foundation for the
social teachings of the Church?
 When the Church talks about concern for the poor, the oppressed, and the
exploited in her teachings, she does so because she wants her members to
witness to Jesus' special love for them
 When the Church talks about justice in her social teaching, it is one that is
founded on love because she believes that without love, it is not possible
5
to sincerely and consistently give to others what they deserve.
 . When the Church talks about just compensation for workers, she is
telling her members that giving just compensation speaks of a recognition
of the rights and dignity of workers. The recognition of these two would
be difficult or even impossible without love.
 It is clear to see that just like Jesus who healed the sick, lifted up the
poor, and fed the hungry did so out of love.
 Our concern for our neighbor, especially to those who are at the margins
of society should be founded on love. If love is present, being just,
merciful, kind, and peace-loving naturally follow.
