Disassembling a System Unit
1.
Power Off and Unplug:
2.
1. Ensure the computer is turned off and unplugged from the power source.
Disconnect all peripheral devices (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.).
3.
Open the Case:
4.
1. Remove screws or fasteners holding the side panel or cover in place. Depending on
the case design, you might need to slide or lift off the panel.
5.
Ground Yourself:
6.
1. Wear an anti-static wrist strap or frequently touch a metal part of the case to
prevent static electricity from damaging components.
7.
Disconnect Cables:
8.
1. Detach all internal cables connected to components (e.g., power cables, data cables)
from the motherboard and other devices.
9.
Remove Expansion Cards:
10.
1. Unscrew and carefully remove any expansion cards (graphics card, sound card, etc.)
from their slots on the motherboard.
11.
Remove Storage Devices:
12.
1. Unscrew and detach hard drives or SSDs from their mounts. Disconnect their cables.
13.
Remove RAM Modules:
14.
1. Press down on the clips at either end of the RAM slots to release the RAM modules
and carefully lift them out.
15.
Remove the CPU Cooler:
16.
1. If needed, disconnect the CPU cooler (fan) from the motherboard. Unscrew or
release it according to its mounting mechanism, then carefully lift it off the CPU.
17.
Remove the CPU:
18.
1. Gently lift the lever or mechanism holding the CPU in place, then carefully remove
the CPU from its socket.
19.
Remove the Motherboard:
20.
1. Unscrew and detach the motherboard from the case. Carefully lift it out, ensuring all
cables and components are detached.
21.
Remove Power Supply (PSU):
22.
1. Unscrew and remove the PSU from its mounting location. Disconnect any remaining
cables.
