14
Semi-Hermetic Motor

Semi-Hermetic Motor
• Refrigerant cooled motor keeps
motor heat out of the mechanical
room
• Minimizes alignment, vibration
and shaft seal maintenance of
open motors
• Refrigerant cooled motors
operate in a clean, cool
environment.

•Open motors (certain York models) reject heat to the facility space, which must be tempered (air
conditioned) or ventilated to a maximum of 104oF (40°C) indoor ambient to assure design motor
and starter life.

15
Relief Valve Piping
Provides a sizing guideline for venting relief valves on the 30HX and 30XW.

30HX Minimum Load Control (HGBP)

HGBP

Figure B: HGBP Accessory added to chiller

The hot gas bypass (HGBP) option adds an additional stage of

unloading to the chiller to more accurately meet low cooling loads. It is
connected from the condenser to the cooler.

26
30HX Minimum Load Control (HGBP) Example
Given:
30HXC106 (2-compressors (Circ. A) 66Ton / (Circ B) 39Ton)
Each compressor has (3) stages of compression
Current Building Load is 10 Tons

Find:
How many tons must be diverted from condenser outlet to evaporator for sustained operation?

Solution: 1
The minimum load on the smallest capacity compressor is (39)  13 Tons so 3 Tons must be supplied to the evaporator for sustained operation.

each circuit
only 25% of
total capacity.

The Trane RTHD ,The York YS and YR and the McQuay WGS are Single Circuit Only!!!

High Short Circuit Current Rating (HSCCR)
WHAT IS IT? HOW IS IT CALCULATED?
SCCR is calculated using a weakest link method.
Every component is rated to a certain capacity, the control panel is limited to
the smallest rating

Motor Controller = 7kA

Imagine a chain of different Metal Contacts = 10kA
components:
Which link has the lowest
rating?

Circuit Board = 10kA

Transformer = 10kA

This assembly’s SCCR rating = 10kA
