DEPARTMENT OF ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION

ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-24

Assignment III
Course: Control Systems (BEC403)
1) Derive the expression for unit step response of first order system.
2) Derive the expression for unit step response of second order underdamped system.
3) Make use of the response curve of second order underdamped system to define and derive the
expression for (i) Peak time (ii) Maximum overshoot (ii) Rise time.
4) Explain the following related to first order system with necessary equations.
(i) Time constant (ii) Rise time tr (iii) Settling Time Ts
5) Find the step response c (t) of the system described by G(s) = 4/(s+4).Also find Rise constant, Time
constant and setting time.
6) Analyze a feedback control system with forward path gain G(s) = 12/ (s 2 + 4s + 16) and feedback
gain H(S) = KS to determine the constant K and all the time domain specifications. Given the
damping ratio to be 0.8.
7) Analyze the steady state error for type-2 control system with step input, ramp input and parabolic
input.
8) Determine the value of K for a control system with open loop transfer function of K(s+5)/s(S+2)
(S+10) which produces 30% steady state error with unit ramp input.
9) A Position Servo Mechanism is characterized by open loop transfer function, G(s) = A/s(s+α),
Where A & α are positive constants. Find the values of A & α so the ʃ = 0.6 and the frequency of
Damped Oscillations wd = 8 rad/sec. Also find the peak value of the response when the system is
excited by a step of 2V.
10) Find the state model for a system represented by transfer function
Y(s)/U(s) = 10/ (s3+3s2+2s+10)
11) Develop a state model for the electrical network shown such that e 1(t) and e2(t) are inputs and output
is taken across the resistor R.

12) Explain the selection of state variables.

13) Represent the electrical network given below as a state model.
