Fashion A. Warm Up Read what these three people say about fashion. Discuss with your partner whose opinions about fashion are closest to yours Roshan Some of my friends are quite stylish and always follow the latest trends but I prefer to have my own style. I prefer to wear comfort- able clothes but of course I think it's possible to wear smart casual clothes and still feel comfortable. I like wearing bright colours and I also wear a lot of bracelets these days. At the moment, stripes are in fashion and when all my friends go out, they look like a lot of zebras! T like wearing make-up but it doesn't look nice if you put too much on. In my opinion, it’s possible to look good without spending a lot of money on clothes and make-up. Miguel T'ma skateboarder and we have our own sense of style, Of course the main thing is having the right skateboard. After that you need to wear a type of light skateboarding trainers. The clothes we wear don't always fit exactly. We generally wear loose clothes, loose shirts and loose jeans, Usually the colours are not bright, but a bit dull - black, grey and blue mainly. We wear a special type of hat too. Functional English Hf we want to express a general preference we can use prefer or would ('d) rather. ‘The meaning is the same but the structure is different. After prefer you can either use the infinitive or the gerund. I prefer to wear/wearing comfortable clothes. After would rather (or 'd rather) use the infinitive without to. I'd rather wear comfortable clothes. If we want to show preference for one option over another we can say: prefer... to would rather I prefer wearing bright clothes to dark clothes. han 'd rather wear bright clothes than dark clothes. When we want to talk about a specific preference we can use would prefer (or ‘d prefer) and would rather (or ‘d rather). They mean the same and are inter- changeable. I'd prefer to buy the black trousers. ''d rather buy the black trousers.
