E. It is important to wash our hands? Why it is important?
(Our lesson for today is all about Personal Hygiene: Proper Handwashing)

1. Personal Hygiene: Proper Handwashing

 Handwashing: Regularly washing hands with soap and water helps prevent the spread of germs and infections. It is
especially important before eating, after using the restroom, and after coughing or sneezing.
Steps on Handwashing
Handwashing is a simple yet effective way to prevent the spread of germs and infections. Here are the proper steps to follow for
effective handwashing:
Note: Let the learners read the steps on handwashing to enhance learner achievement on literacy skills.

1. Wet Hands:
o Turn on the tap and wet your hands with clean, running water. The water can be warm or cold.
o Apply enough soap to cover all hand surfaces.

2. Lather Hands:
o Rub your hands together to create a lather. Make sure to cover the entire surface of your hands.
o Scrub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. Don't forget your thumbs and the
tips of your fingers.

3. Scrub for at Least 20 Seconds:

o Continue to scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. An easy way to time this is to hum the "Happy Birthday"
song twice.

4. Rinse Hands:
o Rinse your hands thoroughly under clean, running water to remove all the soap and dirt.
o Make sure all the soap is washed off, as any residue can cause irritation.
5. Turn off the Tap:
o If you are in a public restroom, use a paper towel to turn off the tap to avoid re-contaminating your hands.

6. Dry Hands:
o Dry your hands using a clean towel or an air dryer.
o If you are using a towel, make sure it is fresh and dry to avoid contamination.

Questions:
1. Is it important to follow the steps on handwashing? Why?
2. Why is it important to clean our hands all the time?
Why do we need to be healthy? (So that we can play, go to school, and do house chores. walk, run, jump, hop, skip, leap,
and gallop.)
