ASSIGNMENT 3 (Software Application) COMPLEX PROBLEM

Name: IC No.:

A steel frame structure ABCDEFGH has been built to carry uniformly distributed loads, nodal forces and
nodal moment as shown in Figure 3. The designer has decided to employ an I-section for all beams and H-
section for all columns according to the table of properties in British Standard. It was reported that a downward
settlement of 10 mm occurred at support C due to the ground movement. With this conditions, what should
the best sections (fulfil the safety and economic aspects) of the frame members be employed if the permissible
bending stress for all members is 110 N/mm2 and the nodes resultant displacement are no more than 12 mm.
Report the maximum displacements and/or deflections and its position in the frame, and the internal forces
and normal stresses in the members.
