Students will use a spinner to spin a prefix or suffix. They will write a word
using the affix they landed on. If they spin the same affix more than
once, they will write a new word. There are two prefix spinners and two
suffix spinners. Spinners #1 and #3 include easier affixes than Spinners
#2 and #4. Color and black and white printable versions are included.

Roll an Affix
Students will use dice to roll affixes. They will write a word using the affix
they rolled. If they spin the same affix more than once, they will write a
new word. There are four different dice included, each containing
three prefixes and three suffixes.
Directions: Roll the
cube. Create a
word using the affix
you rolled. If you roll
the same affix a
second time, create
another word using
the affix, OR use the
first word you
created in a

Find Someone Who
Students will work with other students in their class to find the answers to
the tasks on the worksheet. Complete teacher instructions for this
activity can be found on page 21.
There are five handouts included: three that focus on affixes and two
that focus on roots. Answer keys are included.
1. Distribute the “Find Someone Who” handout that is most appropriate
for your students.
2. Explain to the students that they are to walk around the room and find
classmates who can complete the tasks on the handout.
3. When students find someone, they will have that student write the
answer and their name in the box they are completing.
4. Tell students they may only use one classmate per box. This will ensure
they interact with as many students as possible.
Other Tips:
• I recommend assigning a specific amount of time, but don’t be afraid
to cut it short if most students have completed the activity.

with Morphemes
For these printables, the students will write words and sentences with
specific prefixes, suffixes, roots, or general morphemes. Version 1
focuses on one specific morpheme per printable and version 2 is for
a variety of morphemes (but still in the same category).

Morpheme Word Work Mat
For this activity, students will choose a morpheme card and place it or
write it in the middle of the mat. They will then complete four tasks with
that morpheme: determine what type of morpheme it is, define it, use it
in a word, and then use that word in a sentence.
Digital Access
Slide 1 includes editable text
boxes for students to fill in every
part of the organizer, including
the morpheme in the center.
