Narrative Report
According to Aijaz Gujjar's article on teacher preparation, practice teaching stands as a
key component in the training process. It offers fledgling educators a chance to immerse
themselves in the profession and adapt socially. Additionally, it serves as a practical application
of various teaching methodologies, strategies, principles, and techniques, as well as hands-on
training in the diverse tasks of daily school routines.
Before we began our practice teaching, we went to our cooperating school and had an
orientation where our cooperating teachers were introduced to us. They also provided us with
their schedules. I felt happy because I learned that my cooperating teacher would include me at
the elementary level.
In the first week of my practice teaching in our cooperating school, we first observed our
cooperating teacher and her teaching, as well as the students. My first day was somehow very
unusual because I’m not used to getting involved with many people in such a way that you will
be with them the whole day. It was my first observation in the class that I was going to handle. I
was happy when my cooperating teacher took me to the elementary school so that he could take
classes. The students in grades 2, 3, and 4 are good, smart, and kind. I was also happy because I
had the opportunity to teach and meet them.
My Cooperating Teacher also met and introduced me to Grade 7, where I will be
teaching. At first, I wasn't happy because the two sections didn't pay much attention to me. I am
hoping that as the day passes by, I will eventually know them and be able to help them gain
knowledge. But in the following days, we got to know each other and became close. On my third
day of observation in the two 7th-grade sections, the fact that really made me nervous was that it
was the time when my cooperating teacher told me that I would have my first teaching
demonstration. At some point, I realized one thing. Is this really happening? Will I pursue this
even if I don’t like to become a teacher? Or a question like, "Am I supposed to teach and face
two sections with my cooperating teacher at the back while observing me? So for my last day of
observation, I decided to focus on the behavior of the students and think of strategies that will
help me handle the students in my class. Also, I decided to focus and study my lesson for my
first teaching demonstration with my cooperating teacher.

And this is the day of my first teaching demonstration. Aside from the happiness, I felt
nervous that time as I entered their classroom. All eyes were on me, and I am not good at making
good impressions. But, I can say my first demonstration didn't turn out well because I didn't
prepare, but I learned a lot that afternoon. I regretted it because I didn't check what I had done
before I presented it. And I prepared for my next demonstration because I promised that I would
get better next time. The outcome was good, with fewer comments and I learned from it. When
my cooperating teacher left me alone to teach in Grade 7, I learned a lot that I hadn't done before,
and I can say that I grew somehow. As time passed, I learned to communicate and build rapport
in order for us to have a good relationship. In that way, I can listen to them and ask them
questions, especially in the teaching and learning process. I always find it awesome when my
students really listen to whatever I say because it makes me realize that they really have the
eagerness to learn every day.
On April 16, 2024 was my final teaching demonstration, I went through a lot before
reaching this point. From searching, buying, and creating instructional materials, to making a
PowerPoint presentation and studying, each step was significant. I am thankful to my
cooperating teacher because she always understands my fears and nervousness every time I have
a teaching demonstration with her. I'm also grateful for her kindness, guidance, and support. I
feel fortunate to have her as my mentor. My final demonstration wouldn't have been successful
without her. I am also grateful to my Grade 7 Star Lily and 7 Tiger Lily students for their
cooperation since day one of my teaching journey, especially during the mock demonstration and
final demonstration. They did not disappoint me. I am also immensely grateful to our panellists
because their smiles dispelled the fear and nervousness when they saw them while I was giving
my final teaching demonstration.
Within 360 exciting yet stressful school hours in my cooperating school, I never knew
how mature I could be in terms of understanding people. There are moments which can really
test my patience, especially when paying attention to the behavior of the students. But the
thought that when you share them some of your words of wisdom and being able to understand
what you wanted to tell them makes you realize that at the end of the day, you inculcate in their
minds the importance of learning and it makes you feel satisfied. And as you continue to gain
responsibility in the classroom and learn more about your students and other teachers at school,
you will also reflect on your practice. As a teacher, you will learn to evaluate your own learning
and skills when you are in the field of teaching. The goal of practice teaching is to enhance your
capability to perform in any aspect and to serve.

This training helped me to build my whole personality. I have learned so many things that
i will know in the near future that I can use, apply, and even improve when I get a job. Learning
is fun. Teaching is fun, too. What I'm searching for is the driving force that will lead me to my
full potential in everything that I will do for the students. But sometimes, I still don't see myself
cultivating these students' young minds and being able to share the knowledge with them until
now. I always doubt myself about what I'm capable of. But I'm thankful because I got through it
all.
