you understand with those words written.
Learner: “Public Speaking. For me it is a ways
of delivering a speech in front of a huge

(D) A B S T R A C T I O N

D1. Discussion

Speaking before an audience, which is possibly one of

the most feared communication situation, is another
speech context. In this context, the speaker, usually
standing in front or onstage, speak to many people
compared to the intrapersonal context in which one
talks only to himself or herself, or to interpersonal context
which one speaks to a limited number of people only.

Public Speaking also called oration or oratory is a

process of communicating information to a live
audience.

Who can read the next slide? Anyone (A student will raise their hand and read)

Okay, go on.
Learner: “Public speaking is an important part

So, Public Speaking situations may be personal or

professional. Here are some examples, the first one, who
can read?

1. Personal
Learner: “Personal

Ok, thank you for reading, so here in personal situation
of public speaking it is a casual type of public speaking
where in you don`t have to insert a lot of formal words
to use.

Okay, based from what you have read, What did you
understand? Share your insights to us.

Learner: “So unlike the first one, professional

public speaking involves a formal gathering
or meeting in which every words you say
should be formal.”
Precisely! Very good.

So in the future, there will be more frequent instances

where you will have to speak in front of an audience.
These instance may likely help you achieve your career
or create new and better opportunities. Hence it is
important that you learn how to become an effective
public speaker. Fortunately, good speakers can be
made through constant practice. The following are
some tips that will help you become public speaker.

Please read the first one.

Okay, why do you think is it important to focus on your
goal? (Students raise their hands)
Yes? Can you share your insights to us?

Learner: “It is important to focus on our goal

so that we can`t be distracted by our
surroundings.”

Very good!
Ok, the next tip, please read… (Students raise their hands)

thinking of positive thoughts will help you relax.

Thank you for reading. So of course you can`t deliver

your speech perfectly if you let your stage fear overflow
in you. You must try to relax yourself to deliver it
appropriately. Am I right? Yes, Ma`am.

Next, Please read… (Students raise their hands)

Alright, always remember that preparation is an

advantage. Once you stand on the stage or in front of
the crowd, there`s no turning back so you must be
prepared for the worst. (A student raise a hand)

Yes? You want to say something?

Learner: “I just want to add, Ma`am. I think it is
really important to be prepared because
there`s a saying ‘Hope for the best but always
prepare for the worst.”
Very well said!.
Next is

4. Practice. Deliver your speech I front of a mirror to

see the appropriate nonverbal cues you can
use. Better yet, take a video of yourself
delivering your speech so that you can watch
and study it afterward. You may also deliver you
speech in front of your parents, relatives, or
peers and then ask for their feedback.

So, why do you think is it necessary to practice? (Students raise their hands)
Yes?

Learner: “It is important to practice because
through practicing we can improve our
speaking skills and avoid mistakes.”
Exactly! Very good.
So, like we always say “Practice makes perfect” that`s
why it is also part of your preparation to practice
delivering your speech.

Next is,

5. Interact with the Audience. Ask them questions,

when necessary, and engage them in
appropriate banter. If you can do so, you will be
able to build rapport with them.

So, this is a technique to lessen your nervousness. We

should learn on how to engage the audience so that Yes, Ma`am!
they can relate on what you are trying to convey.
Am I right?

In any public speaking situation, the audience will

exhibit both positive and negative behaviors. These
nonverbal cues may reveal the thoughts and the
feedback or reaction of the audience to a speaker or
to the speech.

Similarly, a speaker must also show or avoid certain

nonverbal cues. Public speakers being open to general
observation, must be conscious of how conduct
themselves onstage or before their audience.
Everything from choice of words to posture and to the
manner of dressing, is subject to the scrutiny and
judgement of the audience.
And this means, what? (Students raise their hands)
Yes? This means what?
Learner: “This means that speakers must be
respectful and sensitive to his or her
audience. He or she would avoid derisive,
vulgar and indecent or offensive language.”
Precisely! Very good.
This means that a speaker should be very careful of his
or her gestures, facial expressions, and body language
so as not to offend anyone. Did you understand?
Yes Ma`am.

Alright, is there any question? Clarification? Additional

information?.

(E) A P P L I C A T I O N

E1. Generalization
Alright, before we proceed our activity, again what is
Public Speaking? (Students will raise their hands)

Yes? Go on. Learner: “Public Speaking also called oration

or oratory is a process of communicating
information to a live audience.”

Very good! And what are the two situations of Public (Students will raise their hands)
speaking?
Learner: “Personal and Professional”
Yes?

Excellent! Now that you already know these things, I will

give you an activity.

So, your class will be divided into two groups. After that
here`s what you`re going to do, In a 1 whole sheet of
paper;

present the answers of your group.
Yes, Ma`am.

(The representatives of each groups will go in
