1 Overview
1.1 Introduction
The Hi3518E V20X demo board is a demonstration board that is developed based on the
HiSilicon media processing chip Hi3518E V20X. It is used to demonstrate powerful
multimedia functions as well as various peripheral interfaces of Hi3518E V20X, and provides
the hardware reference design based on Hi3518E V20X to help customers shorten the product
development cycle.
The Hi3518E V20X demo board can serve as a basic development system by connecting to a
PC through the serial port cables and network port cables. The following devices or
components are required for implementing a complete development system or demonstration
environment:
z Display
z Sensor board
z Audio source and sound box
z USB 2.0 device
z RealView-ICE simulator
z Storage devices such as the USB flash drive and the secure digital (SD) card
HiSilicon provides a comprehensive Hi-Boot program, that is, universal boot loader (U-boot). By using
this program, you can implement software debugging in Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) mode
without a simulator.
1.2 Features
The Hi3518E V20X demo board supports the following features:
z One multi-mode video input interface that supports at most 14-bit raw video data, at
most 4-lane mobile industry processor interface (MIPI)/low-voltage differential signaling
(LVDS)/HiSPI data, and BT.1120/BT.656/BT.601 data
z One RJ45 network interface in 10/100 Mbit/s full-duplex or half-duplex mode
z One high-speed USB port
z One RS232 debugging serial port with 1200 bit/s−115,200 bit/s baud rate
z One RS485 interface

Memory Data Width Frequency Capacity
Hi3518E V20X has embedded DDR2 SDRAMs, and there is no external DDR SDRAM on the printed
circuit board (PCB) of Hi3518E V20X. There is a 4 Gbits external DDR3 SDRAM on the Hi3516C
V200 demo board.
1.3 Deliverables
The deliverables of the Hi3518E V20X demo board include:
z One Hi3518E V20X core board (Hi3518EV20XDMEB)
z One Hi3518E V20X peripheral board (HI3518EV20XPERB)
z One power adapter with the specifications of 100 V−240 V 50 Hz alternating current
(AC) input and 12 V 2 A direct current (DC) output
z One AR0130 sensor board
z One sensor transfer board (HI3518EV200SENCONB)
The Hi3518E V20X core board and peripheral board are connected by using a connector.
Because of the differences between Hi3516C V200 and Hi3518E V20X, the boards for Hi3516C V200
are different from those for Hi3518E V20X. The deliverables of the Hi3516C V200 demo board that are
different from those of the Hi3518E V20X demo board are as follows:
z Core board: Hi3516CV200DMEB
z Peripheral board: Hi3518EV20XPERB (shared by Hi3516C V200 and Hi3518E V20X)
z Sensor board: IMX222 sensor board

3 Operation Guide
3.1 Precautions
The Hi3518E V20X demo board is applicable to the laboratory or engineering development
environment. Take the following precautions before performing operations:
z Take antistatic measures before unpacking the board package or installing the board to
protect the board hardware from being damaged by the electrostatic discharge (ESD).
z Hold the edge of the board. Do not touch the exposed metal on the board; otherwise, the
board components may be damaged due to the ESD.
z Place the Hi3518E V20X demo board on a dry plane and keep it away from heat sources,
electromagnetic interference sources, radiation sources, and electromagnetic radiation
sensitive devices (such as medical devices).
z Familiarize yourself with the layout of the Hi3518E V20X demo board by following
Figure 2-1 and Figure 2-2. This ensures that you know the positions of operational
components (for example, the switches, connectors, and indicators) on the board.
z Never perform the hot-plug operation on the board.
