Background
Since COVID-19 dictated changes in the education sector globally, countries and institutions
were caught off guard and unprepared, resulting in the need for teaching online. However,
Governments and institutions became more innovative in their thinking as interventions were put
in place to continue teaching and learning. What remains though, is whether all these
interventions were inclusive and accessible enough. Some lessons were learnt from the
pandemic. Policies to address continuity of teaching and learning during crises were developed.
There is a need to equip teachers, lecturers and students teachers with skills to design enabling
online learning environments to benefit learners in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era.
This programme will teach the teachers, lecturers and student teachers with basic digital literacy
skills, how to use and develop Open Educational Resources (OER) to help reduce disparities in
learners’ access to good, quality, open licensed materials. They will also be exposed to different
OER platforms that can be used to design online classrooms and teaching, learning, and
assessment materials.
