Storage Unit Conversion Exercises

This document presents several exercises for converting storage units such as bytes, kilobytes, megabytes, and gigabytes. You are asked to calculate conversions such as 69 kb to bytes, 68 bytes to bits, and 512 bits to bytes. You are also asked to calculate how many megabytes are 3 GB, and how many kilobytes are 2 GB. Other questions include calculating how many gigabytes are 4,096 megabytes, and how many gigabytes are 4,812.8 megabytes. Finally, you are asked to calculate the total space required in megabytes and gigabytes for at

6. On the PC there are 100 music tracks of 3,072KB each. Will I be able to download the songs to
the 512 MB MP 3 player?
7. In my documents I have the following files: Juliana.doc of 1024 KB, Carlos.RTF of 2048 Bytes,
Customer Guide.doc of 5120KB.
I also have: DVD 1 Software. 2048 MB NRG, DVD 2 3072 MB NRG Software.
What is the total information in MB and GB? What storage medium will I need to save the
information?

DEVELOPMENT

1. Calculate how many bytes a document that is 69 Kb occupies.

1024bytes * 69kb = 70656bytes

2. How many bits are 68 bytes?

8bits* 68bytes = 544bits

3. How many Bytes are 512 bits?

8bytes/512bits = 64bytes

4. How many MB is 3 GB?

1024MB * 3GB = 3072MB

5. How many KB is 2 GB?

2gb*1024 = 2048*1024 = 2097152

6. How many GB is 4096 MB?

4096MB / 1024GB = 4MB

7. I have a DVD of 4,812.8 megabytes, how many gigabytes do I have with this amount?
4,812.8/1024=4.7gb

8. How many 700 Mb CDs will I need to equal the capacity of a 4.7 Gb DVD? 700 * 4.7= 3290 /
700= 5CD

9. Two CDs with music in MP 3 format, each with 700 Mb recorded. What size memory card will I
need to copy music?
700mb*1024gb=716800

10. I have the following pendrives: 4Gb, 3Gb and one 512Mb. Which of the pendrives is the most
suitable for downloading videos from the Web, in MP4 format, if all the videos have a total of
3,145,728.Kb?
3,145,728KB / 1024 = 3072, that is, the 3G pendrive
11. In the PC There are 100 musical themes of 3,072Kb each. Will I be able to download the songs
to the 512 Mb MP 3 player?
3072KB*100=307200 Mb, meaning that the music tracks cannot be downloaded to the player as they
would cover 3072 megabytes

12. In my documents, I have the following files: Juliana.doc of 1024 Kb. Carlos.RTF of 2048 Bytes.
Customer guide.doc of 5120Kb. DVD

1 Software. NRG 2048 MB DVD. 2 NRG Software of 3072 Mb What is the total information in Mb and
Gb? What support
magnetic will I need to save the information?
1024 / 1024 = 1mb
2048/1024= 2mb
5120/1024= 5mb
2048+3072+1+2+5=5128mb > we would need a USB memory as magnetic support
5GB
