VEST

DEFINITION:

The vest is a sleeveless garment that covers the torso and fastens at the front, usually with
buttons, although there are also open ones.

THE VEST TODAY:

Women's vests have become a garment that cannot be

missing from the wardrobe. Not only because they can
be worn in all seasons, but because they are perfect
for all types of occasions and add a special touch to
your outfit.

You can find different types of vests, the difference

may be in the textures (cotton, synthetic or others),
they can also be for daily use or more elegant. What is
a fact is that purchasing one of these garments is a
great investment.

Waistcoats, originally worn by Persian men, have

remained in a similar style for over three hundred
years, reaching their greatest popularity during the
18th century.
At that time, silk vests with twelve to twenty buttons could be seen tucked into long jackets. In
the 1900s, the vest was worn in winter, being made with the same fabric as the suit and with
the practical purpose of protecting against the cold.

Today, waistcoats are worn on black-tie occasions. With wedding suits, for example, because it
gives the bride and groom a certain air of elegance and style. Although they are not currently
in fashion, as they come and go, it is a classic garment that does not lose its validity.

How to use them

Dresses

In this case, the vest can help you remove a bit of

formality from the outfit you are wearing, adding a
modern touch to your look. For example, you can wear a
black dress and a long vest, or if you want something
more informal, a solid-color dress and a jean vest.

Blouses

You can wear a blouse and put a vest on top. This outfit can give you a much more
elegant appearance than the previous one if you wear a dress shirt. You can also use it
open. This will give you a casual and quite modern touch.

hippie style

| For this look the main thing is the vest, and the more
colors or shapes it has, the better. You can combine it
with a white outfit to highlight the details of the vest or
with a pair of ripped jeans . Dare to try it!

Neutral colors
If you want to wear vests and you don't know what color or design to buy, choose one in
a neutral color (for example, black, denim or dark blue). That way you can combine
them with more items in your wardrobe.

How to choose the right vest

The first thing you have

to do is try on the vest,
since it will not look good if it is loose and big while you have prominent curves.

The idea is that you can also hide some rolls or imperfections and not duplicate them,
which is why it is necessary that the style of the garment integrates with the shape of
your body.

All women know our bodies well, this will help us make a better choice of vests .

If you have a wide back, large bust or large shoulders, you have to look for long vests,
these will hide the upper part and give the sensation of creating curves in your hips.
Additionally, you can complement them with a pair of jeans.

8 RULES FOR WEARING THE DRESS VEST PROPERLY:

1. The vest should be fitted but not too tight.

2. It should only be worn with a single-breasted suit. It wouldn't look good with a
double-breasted or double-breasted suit.
3. The vest should be long enough to cover the waist line and pants with
suspenders should preferably be worn instead of a belt.
4. Traditionally, the bottom button should not be fastened. It is a sign of smart
dressing that allows the ends of the vest to rest on either side of your hips when
you are sitting.
5. Vests, for both work and formal occasions, should never be worn unbuttoned.
6. The front of the vest should be high enough so that only a small part of the vest
is visible. If it's too tall, it's likely to feel cramped, leaving little room to show
off the tie.
7. There should be no gap between the collar and the back of the vest.
8. Belts add bulk and can ruin the fit of the vest on the body. Men who insist on
wearing the waistband of their pants below their stomach should avoid wearing
vests.

ORIGINS

It is a component of the men's suit that is worn over the

shirt and under the jacket, although today it has already
passed into the women's wardrobe and comes in
multiple forms, from leather and denim to inlaid with
rhinestones or studs.
According to Elvira González Asenso, the vest derives from the jacket, a military garment from
the 18th century that went over the shirt and under the jacket.1

The sleeveless vest, or very brief or adjustable and removable, has been worn in Europe by
both men and women and in all social classes from peasants and soldiers to nobles and
religious since the 12th century.

As a variation of the military and noble surcoats and tabards, the closed collet of rural areas, or
on the habit of some orders and those used by chaplains as altar boys of different fabrics
depending on the occasion.

During the Spanish Empire, the vest or body reinforcement became popular (its use was
already widespread among women and was known as jerkins or bustiers) and was generally
worn on the outside although it was also used underneath as a coat or as a protective apron,
to hinder lunges, often made of leather or other padding with padding to hold the garment of
the doublet, more expensive and of better cloth, delicate in workmanship or carved with
embroidery and other decorations that are easier to damage. This use from the 16th century
would be altered by the French fashion of making vests of better and luxurious fabric, which
would from then on be worn in reverse as an undergarment, its workmanship protected by the
longer and wider jacket than the tight doublets of the men. two previous centuries.

In the 19th century the vest was an integral part of the suit; but its diversification allowed it to
be converted into a simple men's outerwear garment, without losing its status as being worn
under another garment, such as the jacket or jacket.

Finally, at the end of the 20th century, clothing styles such as geek cool used the vest without
any other garment on top.

THE WOMEN'S DRESS VEST:

Its composition can be the same as that of your frock coat or jacket, that is, cold wool or wool
and polyester mixtures, polyamide is not usually used as much. However, this condition is not
necessary and many ceremonial vests have a fabric nothing like the jacket they accompany. It
can be a single color, with drawings of different types or a color with a border, also called
piping.

APPLICATIONS

The vest is an essential garment in formal attire such as the morning suit, the tailcoat and the
groom's suit and in street suits it can be worn or not, and it may be different from the blazer or
the same, diplomatic or bird's eye style. to give two examples.

It is very useful for certain activities such as hunting, to carry easily removable ammunition, or
photography, to have film reels, memory cards, batteries, caps and even lenses on hand.

In many armies they are issued as standard equipment, especially the anti-fragment vest.
Especially since a US Army investigation warned that most injuries occur in the head and trunk
of soldiers.

In the case of water vests, diving jackets have almost ended up displacing the old collars
because they are much more comfortable, can be equipped with ballast, do not need
compressed air bottles that must be checked periodically and have pockets
