Exploded Drawing

The document describes the exploded drawing, which represents each individual part of an assembly showing all the views and specifications necessary for its manufacture. The exploded drawing follows rules such as assigning a unique mark to each part and showing all the required technical data. This type of drawing is useful for mechanical and industrial engineers for the development and maintenance of prototypes and machinery.

EXPLODED DRAWING

By: Cristian Camilo González Jiménez Technology in Civil Works Course: Technical
Drawing and Interpretation of Plans

Exploded drawing: represents an individual part (which cannot be broken down into
smaller ones) and includes all the information necessary for the definition of the part,
seen from another perspective. The exploded drawing is one in which all and each of
the non-standardized parts that constitute the mechanism represented in the
assembly drawing.

How is it represented?
We can see the different pieces that make it up in the following image:

RULE THAT GOVERNS THEM

Basic rules to take into account when creating the exploded drawing:

Standard parts are not represented. They are designated in the box of the assembly
plan.
Represent non-standardized parts, with the necessary views and all the technical
data (dimensions, surface signs, tolerances, treatments, etc.) necessary for their
manufacture.
Respect as much as possible the position occupied by the piece in the set.

The UNE-EN ISO 6433:1996 standard Technical drawings: Reference of the

elements ( ISO 6433:1981 ), establishes that:

Each piece of the set is assigned a brand, which will be the element reference.
This mark must be clearly distinguished from any other indication.
Identical elements of a set are identified by the same reference and if there is no
ambiguity they will be referred to only once.
If groups of elements exist, each subset must be identified with a single
reference.
PROFESSION IT SERVES

This type of drawing is used in parts catalogs, assembly and maintenance manuals,
and other instructional materials. In that order of ideas, it is a type of technical
drawing that would be useful for the professions of:
 Mechanical Engineers: to determine, qualify and quantify mechanical and/or
automotive parts. It is related to the EXPLODED DRAWING because it allows
you to use or represent pieces or parts of machines, machinery, vehicles such
as cranes and motorcycles, airplanes, helicopters and industrial machines.
The plans that represent a simple mechanism or a machine made up of a set
of parts. They are called assembly plans; and those that represent a single
element, parts plan. Those that represent a set of pieces with graphic
indications for their placement, and assembling a whole, are called assembly
plans.

 Industrial Engineers: Essential for the creation of a prototype by the

engineering teams in charge of its creation.

SYMBOLOGY

If several pieces are represented on a sheet, the partial number (h= 7 mm) with the
machining symbol (h=5mm) must be placed next to each one. It is necessary to
indicate the scale (h=5mm) next to the piece in detail, if this differs from the main
scale. The secondary scale is repeated in the lettering under the primary scale in
smaller script.

SCALES
The title block also contains the European system symbol and the scale.
It may be that the scale of the statement is not normalized but the exploded views
DO have to be on a normalized scale and each exploded view can go to a different
scale. Each cutting must be done on a sheet with the corresponding box.

TYPES OF LETTERS
The main aspects will be:
a) Readability.
b) Homogeneity.
Some characters must be clearly distinguished from others, to avoid confusion
between them. The width of the lines should be the same for uppercase and
lowercase letters, to facilitate writing.

LABELS

Box or Labeling Box: The way to register all the data of the elements of a plan in the
labeling box is defined in UNE 1135:1989 Technical drawings: List of elements
(ISO 7573:1983) .

 The elements that appear in this list and their representation on the plan are related
by reference to the mark.
 The item list provides all the information necessary for the production or provisioning
of the items.
 The parts list must be located on the labeling box, on the same plane as the
assembly. The list will have as many lines as there are pieces that make up the set,
and the annotation and numbering will begin from the bottom.
 If the set has many pieces and there is not enough space on the plan, it will be done
separately, in A4 format. In this case, since it is on a separate sheet and to facilitate
automated processing of the list, writing will begin from top to bottom, starting with
the top line.
