This British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Welding
Standards Policy Committee and is the English language version of
EN 24063:1992 Welding, brazing, soldering and braze welding of
metals — Nomenclature of processes and reference numbers for symbolic
representation on drawings, published by the European Committee for
Standardization (CEN). It supersedes Table 10 of BS 499-2:1980 which is deleted
by amendment. EN 24063:1992 is identical with ISO 4063:1990 published by the

International Organization for Standardization (ISO). EN 24063:1992 was

produced as a result of international discussion in which the UK took an active
part.
A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a
contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application.
Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity
from legal obligations.

Introduction
The numbering and grouping established in the first
edition of ISO 4063:1978 was strictly followed as a
basis in compiling this International Standard and
not other ordinal features, e.g. fusion welding
processes, pressure welding processes.
Licensed Copy: :FULLNAME, : DATE, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI

The intention to combine ISO 857 and ISO 4063 in

one single International Standard could not be
realized because
— ISO 857 defines only a selection of processes
given in ISO 4063;
— references to ISO 857 and ISO 4063 have
already been made in several other standards,
and confusion would therefore arise from their
combination;
— the adoption of these International Standards
in regulations will be easier if ISO 857 and
ISO 4063 exist separately.
