5. Calculate the cost for preparing of concrete mix C-20(1:2:3) from the following given data,
assume 30% of shrinkage & and wastage for cement and 50% of shrinkage and wastage for sand and
gravel (25%)

- Material cost with Delivery cost – cement = 250 birr per Quintal

- Sand = 150 birr per m3

- gravel 20mm size= 260 birr per m3

- For 1m3 concrete Labor required – 1/2 Mason wages 100 birr / day for 8 hours

duty time

- 3 Daily labor wages 25 birr/daily labor / day for 8 hours

duty time

- 1/16 Foreman wages 160birr / day for 8 hours duty time

- Contractor’s profit &over hade cost- 20 %

6. It is intended to construct a pump house of 4mx5m for a water supply project & have
20cm thickens base slab.
Assumed mix rate of the slab c-25(1:2:3) 30% of shrinkage & and wastage for cement
and 50% of shrinkage and wastage for sand and gravel

specified contract completion date. The theory behind this mechanism is that the payments would
mitigate the losses that the owner would experience if the project is not completed on time. It is
unlawful for them to be instigated in an amount in excess of actual damages to the owner.
