   B. DEVELOPMENTAL
      ACTIVITIES
   1. Motivation
“I have downloaded a short video, let us
           watch this altogether”
(Playing the video) (Watching the video)
“What was the video all about?” “It was about compare and contrast”
“Correct! Can you write the words compare Mallory: (Writing on the board)
and contrast on the board, Mallory”
           “Thank you, Mallory”
“So, This morning we will be learning about (Listening)
          compare and contrast”
   2. Presentation
“Before we proceed, here are the learning
         objectives for this lesson”
At the end of the period, the grade 3 pupil
should be able to:
   a. differentiate compare and contrast;
   b. distinguish the similarities and
differences of the pictures; and (Listening)
   c. compare and contrast subjects from
      text.
“Are you now ready to listen, grade 3?” “Yes, teacher”
“Aina, based on the video we have watched, Aina: “Yes, teacher. To compare is to look
can you tell us what is to compare?” for the similarities of two things”
               “Good answer!”
Compare
   - To tell what is alike or the same
      between two things.
   - If we compare things, we look for the
things we can see and we cannot see. (Listening)
Examples:
   - We can physically see that they are
       both fruit and round.
   - The things we cannot see about the (Listening)
two is that they are both good for our
       health.
“Did you get it, kids?” “Yes, teacher”
            “Another example”
   - We physically see that they are both
girls and they have the same skin
       color.
   - The things we cannot see about the (Listening)
two is that maybe one of them is
happy and the other one is just
       pretending happy.
“Did you get my point, kids?” “Yes, teacher”
“We can look for the similarities between
two things such as animals, people, objects,
plants, stories, and more based on what we (Listening)
see as well as things we cannot see”
“We can also look for the similarities of the
            texts and stories”
Key words to compare:
    same
    also
    like
    similar
    similarly
    as well as
    both
Examples:
   - Both cats and birds can be pets to (Listening)
      people.
   - She loves to dance just like her mom.
“Rothena, can you site an example using one Rothena: “Yes, teacher. My best friend and
of the keywords we can use in comparing?” I have similar favorite snacks.”
“Great! Can we proceed now” “Yes, teacher”
“Alexa, based on your understanding, can Alexa: “Contrast is to look for the
you tell us what contrast is?” differences of two things”
                  “Great!”
Contrast
   - To tell us what is the difference
between two things, animals, person, (Listening)
       and more.
   - If we contrast things, we look for the
things we can see and we cannot see.
“Did you get it? Are you still with me?” “Yes, teacher”
Examples:
   - They have different color, an apple is (Listening)
red while an orange has orange color.
“Always remember that if we contrast things,
we will look for its difference/s”
“We can also look for the differences of the
            texts and stories” (Listening)
These are the keywords in looking for the
differences between the text:
     but
     unlike
     different (Listening)
     difference
     although
     on the other hand
     however
     while
examples:
   - Apples and oranges have different (Listening)
         colors and tastes.
   - Rina is mean unlike with her twin,
         Risa.
“We can use Venn diagram to compare and
            contrast things”
“Let as compare and contrast these things” (Listening)
          “Using this Venn diagram”
“Venn diagram is a graphic organizer that (Listening)
        has two circles overlapped”
“The middle is to tell what is alike, and the
sides is to tell what is difference”
“What do we write in the middle?” “The similarities, teacher”
“So, what is the similarities between the “They are both animals”
                    two?”
“What else?” “They can be pets”
“Very good! Droid, kindly draw a Venn Droid: (Drawing)
          diagram on the board”
              “Thank you, Droid”
“In the middle, kindly write their similarities, Zilla: (Writing)
                    Zilla”
“Very good, Zilla. Now, what should we “The differences between the two, teacher”
write on the sides of our Venn diagram?”
“Good! On the right, we have bird and on the
             left we have cat”
“What are the differences between them?” “The birds can fly while cats cannot”
“What else?” “The birds is bird wild cat mammal”
“Correct! There’s more” “Birds hatches eggs while cats give birds”
“Great! That is how we use Venn diagram to
        compare and contrast things”
   3. Application
Directions: Read the text below. Compare
and Contrast the two main character using a
Venn diagram.
Bats and Birds
Both bats and birds can fly.
You might see them on a rooftop.
In other ways, Bats and Birds are very
different. (Reading)
Birds have feathers, Bats have fur,
Birds have beaks, Bats have teeth,
Bats hang upside-down when they rest.
Birds never do that!
Bats and birds are very easy to tell apart
When they are not flying.
                                                            (Answering)
             “Done answering?” “Yes, teacher”
         “Pass your paper forward”
   4. Generalization
“Have you learned something this morning, “Yes, we did. We have learned about how
grade 3?” we compare and contrast, teacher”
“How can we compare two things?” “We can compare two things in looking
                                                       with its similarities”
“Great! How about in contrasting?” “We contrast two things by looking for its
                                                                    differences”
                    “That is right”
   IV. EVALUATION
   Activity 1
Directions: Compare and Contrast the boat and the air plane using a Venn diagram below.
Activity 2
Directions: Read each sentence. Does it compare or contrast? Write your answer on the
         space provided before the number.
_____1. Similarly, our football team is not so good.
_____2. I was hungry, but I was reluctant to eat.
