QUESTION 4

All passengers arriving at Kuala Lumpur International Airport will undergo a body temperature
check through thermal scanners. An alarm is supposed to be triggered when the body temperature
is above 38°C. Suppose 20% of the arriving passengers have a body temperature above 38°C. If the
body temperature is below 38°C, there is a 10% chance that it will trigger the alarm. Meanwhile,
the probability that the alarm will be triggered is 21%.

A passenger is selected at random.

(a) Find the probability that the passenger will trigger the alarm if it is known that the passenger
has a body temperature above 38°C. Hence, construct a tree diagram to represent the above
information. [5 marks]

(b) Find the probability that the passenger has a body temperature below 38°C and also who has
not triggered the alarm. [2 marks]

(c) Find the probability that the passenger has a body temperature below 38°C or who has
triggered the alarm. [2 marks]

(d) Determine whether the events that the selected passenger, has a body temperature below
38°C and who has triggered the alarm are independent events. [3 marks]

(e) If the passenger has not triggered the alarm, what is the probability that he has a body
temperature above 38°C? [3 marks]

the data from your classmates (the data can be collected using Google Forms, etc.) or from any
website.

2. From your data, find, by using MS Excel,

(a) the mean, median, and mode.
(b) the first quartile and 65th percentile.
(c) the standard deviation.

3. Then, each group must submit:

(a) Link of Google Form/ Google Sheet/ source of data (Prove of data collection) Google
