Formalize Goals
Based on the previous sections, list five key goals. Goals should be long-term, and have a
broader focus than objectives. A year or more for completion is acceptable. Further, goals
should be promote high level achievements; increase the potential for your professional
goals.
If uncertain, look back upon the previous sections for blanks or general responses, to generate
your list. In this case, your goals are to improvement and enhance clarity regarding the areas
for potential opportunities or interests you want to focus on in the next year(s).

Objectives must be specific and actionable, which support your broader goals. Select
objectives that will provide the largest impact on achieving your goals. Employ the
SMART system to outline your objectives:
 Specific—Objective are clear and unambiguous, expressing both what is to be done and how
 Measurable—Concrete criteria for assessing progress and achievement
 Attainable—Given your existing skills and experience, the objective must be realistic and
attainable
 Relevant—The impact of completion must be aligned with goals
 Time frame—Grounding objectives within a given time-frame
