2. Locate a book or e-book that is relevant to your subject and available online at the TU/e
Library
3. Write down the title and the publishing year of this (e-)book

Publishing year 2018

4. Locate a journal article that is relevant to your subject

5. Write down the title and the publishing year of this journal article

Choosing a relevant database

Go to http://library.tue.nl/AZDatabases/index.php?Language=eng

1. Select one database that you think is useful for your topic and major in addition to the
database that is already filled in in the box below. Make sure you use the filters on the left!

→ Don’t use LibrarySearch here!

2. Explain why you think these databases are relevant for your major and topic. Include the
following terms in your motivation:
a. Topics
b. Type of publications
c. Research fields
Database Motivation
It includes technical topics, which are
Scopus useful for studying BIM. It includes
different types of publications, allowing
more types of information to be used.
Using the filters, the preferred study
major can be chosen to be in line with
the research field.
CuminCAD It includes computer aided architectural
design, which is partially similar to what
BIM is. Also it includes multiple
information types. At last it is about the
preferred study major.

Understanding database features

3. Explain at least three differences in features between the databases. Use the information
button in the database list and/or the help page of the database to find out which features
the database has.

Difference 1 Only the Scopus one contains citation counts.

Difference 2 The Scopus database covers more topics than the CuminCAD one.
Difference 3 The Scopus database has basic and advanced searching modes.W

4. Perform a search in both databases (you can use the search terms you used in
LibrarySearch). Which database do you prefer and why? Please be aware that the number of
results is not a good motivation because this depends on your query, not on the database!

We prefer the CuminCAD database, since it holds sources which are closer to our topic and could
therefore be used better for our research than the Scopus database.
