Level B2

B2 British English Course


This course is designed for upper-intermediate learners of the English language in the British English variant. The course is
designed around the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) guidelines for B2 level descriptors.
The course comprises 13 units and provides components of theory, production, and freer practice of the four skills of language
learning: Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.
Each unit focuses on a discrete function, grammar topic, lexical set, or a combination these, and are assessed at the end of each
unit in speaking and writing assignments designed for the learner to produce and personalize the target language as the course
progresses.
The course uses a range of multimedia; including flash animation, video, audio, virtual classes and written texts, to provide an
authentic context for language learning.
* Key language functions include: likes / dislikes, recommendations, suggesting, offering, giving directions, giving advice,
expressing possibility, formal telephone conversations, complaining, buying / returning / exchanging a product, expressing an
opinion, agreeing / disagreeing, talking about crime and punishment, expressing result / purpose, talking about physical
resemblance, and expressing wishes and regrets.
* Key grammar topics include: adverbs of frequency, indirect questions, present simple vs. present continuous, so / such, past
simple vs. past continuous, narrative tenses, used to + infinitive vs. would + infinitive, the + comparative, comparatives of equality,
present perfect simple vs. continuous, just / already / yet, prepositions of place and time, indefinite pronouns, be going to +
infinitive, will shall, present continuous to express future, modal verbs, reflexive pronouns, quantifiers, zero / first / second
conditionals, either / neither, both / none, time expressions / adverbs, question tags, past perfect simple vs. continuous, articles,
gerund vs. infinitive, relative clauses, discourse markers, future time clauses, future continuous vs. future perfect, the passive
voice, third / mixed conditionals, reporting verbs, causative, and prepositions of time and place.
* Key vocabulary topics include: uncountable nouns, sports, phrasal verbs, work, social networks, types of houses, types of holiday,
holiday activities, idioms, verb + noun collocations, buildings, TV programs, film and cinema, science and discovery, relationships,
shopping, footwear, Am.E vs. Br.E lexis, personality adjectives, world issues, the environment, news and media, schools and
education, and illness, symptoms and treatment.
* Exercise formats and activities include: word sorting, sentence sorting, gap fill, listening comprehension, video comprehension,
matching, image identification, and vocabulary practice.
