Chapter 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes the methods that have been used to perform this

study. The researcher will explain the strategies that will be done to make the

study possible. This chapter also includes the materials, research

instruments, and the interpretation and basis for the research design.

Research Design

In this research, the research design used is a case study approach

that includes an in-depth investigation of certain individuals, groups, or

institutions. A case study is a research approach that is used to generate an

in-depth understanding of a complex issue in its real-life context. This design

will allow the researchers to examine and explore thoroughly the other

possible uses and effectiveness of having a solar-powered charging station at

Angono Private High School.

As defined by Cherry (2024), A case study is an in-depth study of one

person, group, or event. The point of a case study is to learn as much as

possible about an individual or group so that the information can be

generalized to many others. Case study research design is appropriate for

studying solar power charging stations because it enables a detailed

investigation into individual cases, offering deep insights into the specific

challenges, achievements, and dynamics of implementing such stations. This

qualitative approach on aspects like site selection, user habits, technical

challenges, and financial feasibility, which can inform future decisions and

improve the planning and implementation of solar charging facilities.

Population and Sampling

Having solar-powered charging stations in Angono Private High School

manifests an innovative design that strives to provide power efficiency and

convenience for its users. As a way to determine it’s effectiveness and it’s

other possible impacts, the researchers will gather data to deeply assess the

other possible outcome of having such device inside the school. The

researchers will also obtain some information explaining what are the

possibilities and impacts this device could have.

For this to happen, an individual interview was chosen by the

researchers in gathering these data that will also be using a sampling

technique called “Purposive sampling”. As defined by Bisht, R. (2024),

purposive sampling is a non-randomized sampling technique that selects

sampling units based on certain criteria. Purposive research sampling is a

type of non-probability approach in which the researcher chooses a sample

(person, cases, or events) based on their assessment that it would fit the

study’s objectives. The researchers will select one student on each Grade 11

STEM section in Angono Private High School. Specifically, the four selected

students from Grade 11 STEM students must be in the field of engineering.

Since this research is inclined with engineering, purposive sampling technique

can help and guarantee that the researchers will gather well informed

information from the selected participants as the researchers will specifically

choose four STEM students from the field of engineering that can ensure the

researchers to be able to receive reliable and established data.

Data collection and Instrumentation

The data from the selected students on each Grade 11 STEM section

in Angono Private High School will be collected by the researchers to gather

essential information through an individual interview. With this

instrumentation, it allows the researchers to collect valuable information from

the selected student.

Individual interview is equipped with a set of questions that will be

provided by the researchers to further investigate different perceptions from

the four selected respondents that will provide essential answers and

information obtained from the participants that would be settle and compiled

by the researchers. The data obtained will be helpful for the researchers in

supporting the conducted research.

The selected students from each Grade 11 STEM section is a total of

four students. The amount of students is enough for the researchers to gather

important information. These selected students will be in the field of

engineering which ensures the reliability of the information gathered by the

researchers.
