FRENCH REVOLUTION 1789
The French Revolution was a period of time in France when the people overthrew the monarchy
and took control of the government.
The French Revolution lasted 10 years from 1789 to 1799.It began on july 14,1789 when
revolutionaries stormed a prison called the Bastille.
The revolution came to an end 1799 when a general named Napoleon overthrew the
revolutionary government and established the French consulate (with Napoleon as Leader).
French Revolution was an effort to change the system which includes Aristocratic dominance
over common mass of France.
The story starts from 1783 when LOUIS sent army force, ammunition, money and food for
helping America during American Revolution (1771-1783)
In 1783 when France was already going through economic crisis and over that Louis step of
helping America in American Revolution through various resources provide to be a disaster for
France and made the condition worst there.
Main Causes of French Revolution:
There were several causes of French Revolution.

3. Economic Causes
4. Immediate causes
Social Causes:
On the eve of the revolution, the French society was ridden dominated with several inequalities.
The clergy and nobles led a life of luxury and enjoyed numerous privileges, on the other hand
the peasants and workers lived a wretched life.
The groaned under heavy taxes and forced labour.The middle class comprising of lawyers,
doctors, teachers etc also suffered humiliation at the hands of the clergy and the noble. This
state of social inequality was the chief cause of the French revolution.
Political Cause:
king Louis and his queen Marie Antoinette Squandered money on their luxurious living and
wasteful facilities.
The high posts were auctioned, so inefficiency supreme. The whole administration was corrupt
and each department had its own laws. In the absence of any uniform system there was
confusion all around.
The people were tired of such a rotten system of administration and wanted a change.
Economic Causes:
As a Result of a numerous wars waged by Louis the State coffers were empty
The situation was made even more comples by Frances involvement in the American war of
Independence and the faulty System of taxation while the privileged classes were excused from
paying taxes the third estate was more and more tourchened with them.
=> The monarchy spent too much money of luxuries
