Lesson-1
Noah and the Flood

Bible Portion: Genesis 5 to 9

Memory Verse: Psalm 95:6

Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker.

God created man with great purposes, but as Adam’s children used to quarrel with each other, they
had no peace in their home. We need a prayerful life to have peace at our homes. After killing
Abel, Cain left his house and lived in the land of Nod. After Abel’s death, Adam got another son
named Seth. By the time of Adam’s 10th generation, the population increased many folds and were
of evil nature, disobedient and wicked. But there was one man who was righteous, and innocent
called Noah. Today we will learn about him.

Noah was married and they had three sons: Shem, Ham, Japheth, and they were married too. Seeing
that the people of that time were wicked, evil and disobedient, God said to Noah, “All the evil and
wicked will be cleared from the earth by a massive flood.” “God told Noah to build an ark of
Gopher wood (300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high)”. Noah did all that God had
commanded him. He preached and warned about the flood for 120 years to the people and none
listened to him. Noah and his family along with other creatures got into the ark. God said to Noah
“I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark with your sons, your wife and
your son’s wives along with a pair of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive.
God also said Noah to take enough food for everyone and fodder for everything on the ark. The
Ark had only one door and God himself closed it.

The rain fell on the Earth for forty days and nights. Everyone except the ones in the Ark was dead.
The waters rose in the earth for 150 days and rose above the highest peak by 15 cubits. Gradually
the flood water level came down. Noah sent out a raven and a dove to see the water level. The
water had gone down, and the Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. Noah and family got
out of the Ark. All the animals also came out.

1
Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and he sacrificed burnt offerings on it in gratitude, since God
blessed and saved them from the flood. God will destroy those who do not obey his
commandments.

Dear Friends, as Noah obeyed God, we should also be obedient in our lives, we should never
ignore the word of God.

To Submit: God blesses those who obey him and will punish the wicked

Lesson-2
Abraham: Father of all believers

Bible Portion: Genesis 12, 18, 22

Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:8

By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as
an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.

We learned in the previous lesson that only Noah and family survived the flood. Through Noah’s
children, the people on earth started multiplying again. God was sad, as these people were also

2
wicked and not leading a Godly life. However, God did not want to destroy them, instead chose
Abraham, from the 10th generation of Noah to serve and praise God. It is about Abraham we are
going to learn in this lesson.

Abram was born in Ur of the Chaldeans in Mesopotamia. Abram and his family did not know
anything about the true God. They used to make idols to sell and worshiped them. Have you seen
idols? (Psalms 115:4-11) Once God told Abraham “Go from your land and your birthplace and
from your father’s house, to the land that I will show you.” This voice of God made a great change
in Abraham’s life and he trusted God completely. So as per God’s command he started his journey
along with his wife Sarai, father Terah, brother Nahor and Lot his brother Haran`s son. Abram was
blessed because he obeyed God.

Abraham and wife Sarah lived in a tent, wherever they reached. He had no children. Once God
sent 3 angels as guests to Abraham and Sarah`s house. Abraham was a good host. He ran to greet
them, washed their feet, and gave bread, meat, milk and butter for refreshment. After the feast, the
angels asked to call Sarah”. We will return after a year and Sarah will give birth to a son.” Abraham
and Sarah were very old then. Abraham realized who his guests were, and he praised God for His
provision.

God’s promise was fulfilled, the next year. A son was born to them and they named him Isaac.
Once God appeared before Abraham to test his love and faith. “Take your son, whom you love
and go to Mount Moriah and offer him as a burnt offering”. Abraham rose early in the morning,
saddled his donkey and prepared wood for the fire, then he took two servants and his son Isaac and
started on the trip to Moriah. The servants were asked to wait in the valley, Abraham and Isaac
continued their journey until they reached Mount Moriah. On the way, Isaac asked Abraham, “We
have firewood and fire but where is the lamb for sacrifice?” Abraham replied, “God will provide”.
Soon Abraham built the altar; Isaac was bound and laid on it. (Abraham obeyed God, and so was
Isaac to Abraham). Abraham lifted the knife to kill Isaac. God called him to stop and do no harm
to his son. Abraham looked around, saw a ram, and sacrificed it on the altar.

Abraham named that place “Jehovah Jireh” meaning ‘God will provide.’ Abraham and Isaac left
back to their home happily. Abraham can be called as the ‘Father of Believers’

3
To Submit:
If we completely obey the Word of God and follow His commandments, we will definitely be
blessed. God will provide for all our needs.

Lesson-3
How Jacob became the nation Israel

Bible Portion: Genesis Chapters 28-35

Memory Verse: Psalms 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with my eye.

Do you fight or quarrel with your siblings at home? Today we will learn the story of a younger
brother who tried to take away the elder brother’s birth rights and fled in fear. (Explain this part of
the story.)

4
Jacob ran to Luz fearing Esau. It was evening when he reached there. Being so tired he fell asleep.
He used a stone as a pillow. In his sleep, Jacob had a dream. A stairway from the earth, reaching
heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the
LORD and said; “All people on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with
you and will watch over you always.” Suddenly Jacob woke up and he thought, “Surely the LORD
is in this place,'' He was afraid and said, this is none other than the house of God. Jacob took the
stone he had placed under his head and set it up as a pillar and poured oil on top of it. He called
that place Bethel. (Meaning House of God). Jacob made a covenant with God. From there he went
to his mother’s native place, Padan-Aram.

When he was almost near, he saw a flock of sheep and few shepherds near a well. He inquired
with them about his uncle Laban. At that time Rachel, daughter of Laban came there to give water
to their sheep. Jacob helped her. He explained everything to her. She went home and explained
everything to Laban and the family. Knowing that his sister Rebecca’s son has come he took Jacob
to his house. 20 years he stood there serving Laban and in return, Laban gave his daughters Leah
and Rachel to Jacob as wives. God blessed Jacob abundantly and he became very rich. Once Jacob
came to hear Laban’s sons saying that he has earned so much because of their father. God spoke
to Jacob “Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you.” So he
took his wives, kids and all the animals and earnings he had and left to his Father's place. Laban
was not there when Jacob left.

Knowing that Jacob has left, Laban followed him. He said to Jacob, “what you have done is wrong.
I have the power to harm you; but last night the God of your father said to me, not to do anything
good or bad to you.” Laban left after kissing and bidding goodbye to his daughters and
grandchildren.
Before reaching Esau’s place, Edom, some messengers sent by Jacob told him that Esau was
coming with 400 men. Jacob started praying to God and sent a lot of animals with one of his
servants as gift for Esau. That night Jacob had to cross the river Jabbok where he wrestled with
God’s angel who could not overpower Jacob. He told the angel that he would not let him go unless
he is blessed. The angel replied, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel.”

5
Jacob saw Esau and the men coming. He ran towards Esau and bowed down to the ground seven
times. They hugged each other and cried. As per God`s command Jacob went and stayed at Bethel.
Jacob was blessed as he obeyed God.

To Submit:
Do not try to run away and hide from God’s presence. Do not hide our sins, instead ask God for
Forgiveness. God will forgive those who confess to him and bless us even more.

Lesson-4
Joseph – A Minister from prison

Bible Portion: Genesis Chapters 37, 39, 45

Memory Verse: Psalms 133:1

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity!

6
Jacob came back as a rich man and settled in Bethel. He had 12 sons and 1 daughter. Joseph was
his favorite son, so all the other brothers were jealous of him. Once Jacob gifted Joseph a new
robe. His brothers used to tend the sheep. Joseph had a dream and he explained it to his brothers.
He said, “We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and
stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it”. He had another
dream, The sun, moon and stars bowed down to him. His brothers hated him more after hearing
the dream he had.

One day Jacob sent Joseph to Shechem, where his brothers were tending the sheep, to know their
welfare. His brothers had gone from Shechem to Dothan. The brothers saw Joseph coming from
far. When Joseph happily came near them, they stripped him of his ornate robe and threw him into
the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it. Though all the brothers decided to kill
Joseph, the eldest brother Reuben did not allow them. So instead of killing him they sold him to
the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. Then they got Joseph’s robe, slaughtered a goat, dipped
the robe in the blood, and showed the robe to Jacob saying a wild animal killed Joseph. Jacob cried
much.

The Ishmaelites sold Joseph in Egypt to Potiphar who was one of Pharaoh’s officials. Because
Joseph was God fearing, Potiphar put Joseph in charge of his household and of all that he owned.
But his wife was a wicked woman. She made false statements about Joseph and Potiphar put him
in prison.
Pharaoh’s two servants punished for wrongdoings were also there in the prison with Joseph. They
both had a dream and Joseph explained the meaning of the dream to them; he told one of them that
he will be killed and the other one that he will get back his job. The exact happened. The same
time Pharaoh had a few dreams too and brought Joseph to the Palace to explain the King’s dream.
Joseph explained “Seven years of great abundance are coming throughout the land of Egypt, but
seven years of famine will follow them.” Joseph also said, “look for a discerning and wise man
and put him in charge of the land of Egypt to collect all the food of these good years that are
coming, and store up the grain.” Pharaoh made Joseph in-charge of the whole land of Egypt as the
second in command.

7
After few years the famine had started. Famine started in Canaan too. Knowing that there were
food grains available in Egypt, Jacob sent his sons to collect them. Joseph recognized his brothers,
but they did not recognize Joseph. They were scared and bowed down to Joseph, thus Joseph’s
dream came true. After a few days, in their next visit Joseph revealed to them who he was, they
were happy, hugged each other, and cried. Knowing Joseph was alive Jacob was very happy. Jacob
and family moved to Egypt from Canaan; Pharaoh gave them land to live. Without taking any
revenge, Joseph loved his brothers.

To Submit:
We should not take revenge on our enemies. Instead, love them. If we stay harmless to our enemies,
God will bless us. Under whatever circumstances we are, God is able to help us.

Lesson-5
Jacob Gathered to God’s Presence

Bible Portion: Genesis Chapters 46, 48, 50

Memory Verse: Psalm 116:15

Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints.

8
When Jacob came to know that Joseph was alive, he got back his old glow on his face. Jacob went
to Egypt along with his family 70 of them in the Chariot Joseph had sent and lived there with his
children and grandchildren He was 130 years old then. When Jacob saw Joseph, he hugged him,
wept, and said, “Now I have seen your face, I can die”. Pharaoh told to give the fertile land, Goshen
for Jacob and his children to live. Jacob went to Pharaoh and blessed him. Jacob and his sons and
family were saved from famine because of Joseph. They lived happily in that land.

When it was the last few days for Jacob, he told Joseph. “Like our forefathers, I will also die very
soon. When I die do not bury me here, bury me with my father’s in the cave in the burial ground.”
Jacob made Joseph promise him this. When Jacob was getting weaker, Joseph took his 2 sons
Manasseh and Ephraim to him for blessings. As he was too old, he could not see them clearly to
recognize. But he hugged them and blessed them. Jacob reminded them about burying among his
fathers. When Jacob had finished blessing both of his sons, he drew his feet upon the bed, breathed
his last and died. Joseph took his body to Canaan as promised to bury. Jacob lived in Egypt for 17
years. He was 147 years old when he died peacefully. His children grandchildren and their
descendants were blessed as he pleased God.

Lesson-6
Moses - Divides the Red Sea

Bible Portion: Exodus 14, 15

Memory Verse: Exodus 14:31

Thus, Israel saw the great work which the Lord had done in Egypt; so the people feared the
Lord, and believed the Lord and His servant Moses.

Have you seen the seas? Have you travelled on a boat or a ship in the sea? Today we will learn
how God made the Israelites walk through the Red sea.

Another Egyptian Pharaoh made the Israelites their slaves and forced them for hard labor. They
had gone through so much pain. The Israelites cried to the Lord. To save them from slavery God
sent Moses to them. Moses went to the Israelite leaders and told that he was sent by God to rescue
them from the slavery, and to prove it Moses did some signs and miracles before them to make
them believe him. Thus, the people believed Moses.

Moses with his brother Aaron went to Pharaoh and said “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel,
says: ‘Let my people go, so that they may hold a festival to me in the wilderness.’’ But the King
did not let the people go. So God sent 10 plagues one after another to Egypt. The 10th plague was
“Consecration of the Firstborn”, and when it was sent, the king agreed to send the people. When
the people left Egypt and reached the Red sea, they were scared and worried on how to cross the
sea. There were no ships or boats. Moses told them, “Do not worry, God is with us”. But later on
Pharaoh and his officials changed their mind about the Israelites and started following them with
horses, chariots, horsemen and troops. People, seeing this started screaming out of fear. Moses told
the people “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you
today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see them again. The LORD will fight for you;
you need only to be still.”

10
God asked Moses “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff
and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the
sea on dry ground.” Then Moses took his staff, stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that
night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters
were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their
right and on their left. They reached the other side of the sea. The Egyptian army followed them
and when they reached the middle of the sea God commanded, “Stretch out your hand over the sea
so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.” The water
flowed back and covered the chariots, horsemen and the entire army of Pharaoh that had followed
the Israelites into the sea. None of them survived. When the Israelites saw this, they believed in
God and Moses even more. They sang praises to God led by Moses’s sister Miriam.
.
To Submit:

goodness. God will take us through any situation easily.

Lesson-7
Joshua and Caleb- Firm Decision

Bible Portion: Numbers 13 and 14

Memory Verse: Numbers 14:24

But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will
bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.

God saved the Israelites from Egypt through Moses. Jacob and his family of 70 members went to
Egypt. After 430 years, they came back in Lakhs. God brought the people to the beautiful land,
Canaan.

When Israelites almost reached Canaan, as God told Moses, he chose one leader from each tribe
to spy the land. He chose Caleb the son of Jephunneh from the tribe of Judah and Joshua the son
of Nun from the tribe of Ephraim. Moses told them “See what the land is like and whether the
people who live there are strong or weak, few or many. What kind of land do they live in? Is it
good or bad? What kind of towns do they live in? Are they un-walled or fortified? How is the soil?
Is it fertile or poor? Are there trees in it or not? Do your best to bring back some of the fruit of the
land.” So, they went up and explored the land from the Desert of Zin as far as Rehob. When they
reached the Valley of Eshcol, they cut off a branch bearing a single cluster of grapes. Two of them
carried it on a pole between them, along with some pomegranates and figs. At the end of forty
days, they returned after exploring the land.

They came back to Israelite community, reported to them, and showed them the fruit of the land.
They said the place is beautiful and it does flow with milk and honey. But the people who live
there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. Ten men except Joshua and Caleb
said, “we could not conquer those people; they are mighty and stronger than we are.” When
Israelites heard that, they cried out loudly and murmured against Moses and Aaron. At this time,
Joshua and Caleb told the people “The land we passed through and explored is wonderful. If the

12
LORD is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and
will give it to us. Do not rebel against the Lord and do not be afraid of the people of the land as
Lord is with us.” They knew that Canaan was the Promised Land for Israel and that was why they
said so. But whole people got angry and talked about stoning them. God got so angry at the people
that He decided to destroy them. But Moses prayed hard and pleaded with Him. Since the people
did not trust God, God punished them to wander the wilderness for 40 years, one year each for 40
days they explored the land. The other 10 men who went to explore Canaan and said against it
died in a plague. Only Joshua and Caleb were left alive, as God was pleased in them. As they
completely trusted and obeyed the Lord, they were allowed to enter Canaan.

To Submit:

God, he will make us successful in life.

Lesson-8
Israelites cross River Jordan
Bible Portion: Joshua 3

Memory Verse: Psalm 107:30, 31

Then they are glad because they are quiet; So, He guides them to their desired haven.
Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to
the children of men!

‘How do we cross a river? On a boat. Israelites had to cross a river and they had no boat. This
river overflowed in all seasons. In this lesson, we are going to learn how God made the Israelites
walk through the river Jordan.

Moses, the man of God who saved the Israelites from slavery in Egypt died before entering the
land of Canaan. After him, God chose Joshua, son of Nun, to lead the people. God spoke to Joshua,
“I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. No one will stand
against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave
you nor forsake you. Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the
land, I swore to their ancestors to give them.” God made more promises to Joshua. When the
people reached the land of Canaan, God asked Joshua to divide the land for each tribe.

The next day morning Joshua and all Israelites set out from Shittim and reached Jordan. Joshua
told the people “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do amazing things among
you.” Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the Ark of the Covenant and pass on ahead of the people.”
So they obeyed and went ahead. As soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and
their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap.
People crossed the river through the dry ground. The priests who carried the ark of the covenant
of the LORD stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground.

When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua, ”Choose twelve
men from among the people, one from each tribe, and tell them to take up twelve stones from the

14
middle of the Jordan, from right where the priests were standing, and carry them over with you.”
They did as a memorial as God told. These stones were to be a memorial to the people of Israel
forever. Joshua set up the 12 stones at Gilgal. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do
these stones mean? Tell them that the Lord divided Jordan before the Ark of the Covenant. The
people and the priests carrying the Ark of the Covenant crossed and reached the other shore.
As Joshua and the people obeyed just as God commanded, they could cross the river Jordan.

To Submit:
If we completely depend on our God, he will surely help us. We should never forget the good God
does in our lives. We should always thank God and share it with others. It is better to depend on
God rather than men.

Lesson-9
Deborah- The Lady Judge
Bible Portion: Judges 4
Memory Verse: Psalm 107:6
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He delivered them out of their distresses.

Once the Israelites reached Canaan, Joshua divided the land for each tribe. Until Joshua’s time, all
the people served the Lord but after his death, they went in ungodly ways, started worshiping idols.
Then the Lord gave them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. Their enemies all around
made them their servants. When the people cry out to the Lord, he will raise up the Judges to
deliver them.

From Othniel to Samuel there were 15 judges for the Israelites. There was a woman named
Deborah among them. The Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD, now that Judge Ehud was
dead. So, the Lord sold them into the hands of Jabin, king of Canaan. Sisera, the commander of
his army, had nine hundred iron chariots and he had cruelly oppressed the Israelites for twenty
years. In this bitterness, they cried to the LORD for help. Now Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of
Lappidoth, was leading Israel at that time. She prepared for the war with Sisera. She had Barak for
help. God told Deborah that she would win the war and a woman will kill Sisera. Barak said to
her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” “Certainly, I will go
with you,” said Deborah and she went with Barak up to Mount Tabor, Sisera hearing this
summoned his nine hundred iron chariots, all his men and came to Kishon River.

Then Deborah told Barak, “Go! This is the day the LORD has given Sisera into your hands. Has
not the LORD gone ahead of you?” So, Barak went down Mount Tabor, with ten thousand men
following him. Sisera’s entire troops fell by the sword, and not even a single man was left alive.
Sisera, meanwhile, got down from the chariot and ran for his life.

He ran into the tent of Jael. Jael respectfully told Sisera. “Come, my lord, come right in. Don’t be
afraid.” So, he entered her tent, and she covered him with a blanket. He asked for some water, but
she gave him milk. He told her to stand in the doorway of the tent to check if the enemies are

16
coming. Soon Sisera fell into a deep sleep. She picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly
to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground,
and he died. Just then, Barak came by in pursuit of Sisera, and there lay Sisera with the tent peg
through his temple, dead. Thus, Deborah’s prophecy that “Sisera will be killed by a woman”
happened for real.

To Submit: If we commit sin against the Lord, he will punish us. But if we confess and go back to
the Lord, he will forgive us. God will not let his enemies go unpunished

Lesson-10
The Shepherd who became the King

Bible Portion: 1 Samuel 16, 17

Memory Verse: 1 Samuel 16:7

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because
I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward
appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

The gentiles other than the Israelites in Canaan had a King for ruling them. So the Israelites talked
to Samuel who was their judge that they need a king like the people around them. Samuel told
them the difficulties of having a king, but the people kept asking for a king. Samuel Prayed to God
and God spoke to Samuel to make Saul the King. But King Saul disobeyed God and lost his place
as king. Instead, God chose a shepherd boy as the king. We will learn in detail.

In Bethlehem, there lived a God-fearing man named Jesse. He had 8 sons. The youngest one was
David, a shepherd boy. His parents were good believers. David was more spiritual than his brothers
who were soldiers. David was handsome and with sparkling eyes. He was a good singer. He used
to play the harp. He always used to sing songs of praises to the God our maker.

As God commanded, Samuel went to Bethlehem with the horn and anointing oil, and offered a
sacrifice. He invited the senior people in that area which included Jesse. God did not tell Samuel
about who among the 8 sons were going to be chosen as the king. When he saw the eldest son
Eliab, Samuel thought he would be the king. But God told them it is not him. He met all the 7 sons
of Jesse and God told none of them were to be anointed. So Samuel asked Jesse, any more children
he has. Jesse told about David. David being a shepherd is with the flock now. Samuel told him to
send somebody to bring David. When he saw David, God commanded Samuel to choose him and
David was anointed as the King of Israel. From then, God’s spirit was always with David.

18
Though God made David as the king, he still used to tend the sheep to the meadow. There he had
to rescue the sheep from wild animals several times. Once he saw a bear attacking a sheep and he
stabbed the bear to death. Likewise, once saved a sheep from the mouth of a lion and killed the
lion. After David was anointed the King, God’s spirit left Saul and he had evil spirits in him. He
tried to kill David several times. But God the Lord was with David. Later in a war with the
Philistines, Saul and his sons were killed at Mount Gilboa.

To Submit:
When people look at us from outside, God looks our inside, he looks at our heart. God chooses the
ones he loves. God does not judge us as the people do.

Lesson-11
Prophet who was taken to Heaven
Bible Portion: 2 Kings 2

Memory Verse: Matthew 5:10

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.

a person dies, where does his spirit go? It will go either to heaven or to hell. Every human will die
for sure one day. But there was a prophet who was taken to heaven without death. His name is
Elijah. We will learn about him in this lesson.

Elijah was a prophet who had no fear in prophesying whatever God ask him and in telling out what
God ordered him to tell out. King Ahab and his people used to worship idols and God was very
angry with them. God warned through Elijah and punished them by not sending rain to Earth for
3 years and 6 months. Later on when Elijah prayed, God listened and sent rain.

Once, Elijah and his disciple Elisha were about to set their journey from Gilgal. Elijah said to
Elisha, “Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha said, “I will not leave you to go
alone.” So, they went together to Bethel. Elisha knew that Elijah would be taken to heaven very
soon, so he never left Elijah’s side. Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at
a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. Elijah took his
blanket rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water split, and the two of them crossed over
on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah asked Elisha, “Tell me, what I can do for you before
I am taken from you?” Elisha replied, “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elijah agreed
and said, “it will be yours if you see me when I am taken from you”, otherwise, not. As they were
walking along, talking together, there appeared a chariot of fire with horses of fire and separated
the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw this and cried out, Oh
My father! “The chariots and horsemen of Israel” Elisha saw his blanket falling down.

20
Elisha went back and stood on the banks of the Jordan. He took the blanket that had fallen from
Elijah and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed
over. Elisha kept doing more miracles of God those days.

To Submit: If we obey and worship God in full spirit, we will enter heaven. God honors those who
honor him.

Lesson-12
Belief brings Relief
Bible Portion: 2 Kings 4: 1-7

Memory Verse : Philippians 4:19

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

21
Elisha had several disciples. One disciple who was also a prophet among them died, so his family
was in deep trouble because of debt. His wife came crying before Elisha and God worked wonders
in her life. We will learn about how God helped the widow and the family.

When Elisha’s disciple died, his creditors tried to take away his sons as slaves. His wife cried to
Elisha saying she has no money to pay the debts. “What will I do” she asked. Elisha replied to her,
“How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?” She said she has only a jar of
oil at home. Elisha told her “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Then go inside
and shut the door and pour oil into all the jars”, she obeyed what Elisha told her to do” The woman
with her sons, went inside, closed the door and poured oil into the jars and put aside the filled ones.
When all the jars she brought were full, she asked her son for more jars, but he said, “there is no
more jars left.” Then the oil stopped flowing. She ran to Elisha and explained what had happened.
Elisha told her to “go sell the oil, pay the debts, and live on what is left.” She did as she was told,
and the family lived happily.

To Submit: Nothing is impossible for God. God is always ready to bless us when we are really
in need. Do not make hindrance towards our own blessings. When we plead to the Lord, he answers
us.

Lesson-13
Leper Healed – through Slave Girl’s Testimony

Bible Portion: 2 Kings 5

Memory Verse: Exodus 15:26

and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight,
give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you
which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”

Children, do you pray to God when you are sick or in pain? When you get relief, do you share it
with your friends? In this lesson we will learn how a small girl of your age helped a great man to
be healed through her Testimony.

Naaman was the commander of the army of the king of Aram. Though he was a great man, he had
leprosy. He had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife. This girl
was a child of God. She told her mistress, if Naaman would be with the prophet in Samaria he will
heal him. When Naaman told the king of Aram about the prophet in Israel, he sent a letter to the
king of Israel. When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, “Am I God, to kill
and make alive? Why does this fellow send someone to me to cure his leprosy? See how he seeks
a quarrel with me!” When Elisha the man of God heard this, he told the king to send Naaman to
him.

Naaman went to Elisha’s house and stood at the door with his horses and chariots. Elisha sent a
messenger to him and told Naaman to go and wash himself in Jordan seven times to be cleaned
from Leprosy. At first Naaman went away angrily saying that there is better water in his place.
Naaman thought Elisha would come out, pray and thus would heal him. Naaman’s servants also
insisted him to listen to the prophet. He washed himself in Jordan seven times, and his flesh and
skin were restored and became clean like that of a little child and he was clean.

23
Naaman offered lot of gifts to Elisha but he did not accept it. Naaman happily left from Israel,
saying I’ll serve the living God. Elisha’s servant Gehazi saw that his master did not accept the gift
and ran towards Naaman and got all the gifts for himself. The Lord spoke to Elisha about this, so
when Gehazi returned, Elisha asked him where he was gone. He lied to him saying he did not go
anywhere. Elisha told Gehazi “Naaman’s leprosy shall cling to you and to your descendants
forever” for what he had done wrong. Naaman met Elisha and he was healed because of the slave
girl who had told about the God of Israel. Also Gehazi became a leper because of his greed for
money.

To Submit: God not only forgives our sins but also heals our sicknesses. God can heal all diseases
with ease. We should tell our friends about how God heals the sick. We should not be greedy.

Lesson-14
God Protects
Bible Portion: 2 Kings 6: 8 – 23
Memory Verse: Psalm 34:7
The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him And delivers them.

24
God is always with his children, so we need not worry about anything. God’s presence is always
with us. An army of men once came to take away God’s prophet, but God sent them back
embarrassed.

During that period, there was war between the king of Aram and king of Israel. Elisha by revelation
knew all the plans made by the king of Aram and informed the king of Israel. The king of Israel
did everything accordingly as per Elisha’s word. He attacked the Aram army at key areas and
defeated them.

Due to frequent defeats, the King of Aram was deeply disappointed. He asked his men “which one
on our side is doing spy work for the king of Israel”. They said “none of them are, and said Elisha,
the prophet who is in Israel, keeps the king of Israel well informed and he can even know the
words you speak in private.” The king asked his men to go and find where he is so that he could
capture him. So he sent horses and chariots and surrounded the city of Dothan where Elisha was.
The next day morning Elisha’s servant saw the army around the city and was frightened. Elisha
told him not to be afraid. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then,
Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, LORD, so that he may see.” Then the LORD opened Elisha’s
servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hill full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
He was no more scared.

When the army came close, Elisha prayed to God to strike them with blindness and they became
blind. Elisha told them, “This is not the road, and this is not the city. Follow me, and I will lead
you to the man you are looking for.” Instead, he led them to Samaria. Once they entered the city,
Elisha prayed and their eyes opened. When the king of Israel saw them, he asked Elisha if he could
kill them. Elisha said not to kill them. Set food and water before them so that they may eat and
drink and then go back to their master.” So he prepared a great feast for them, and after they had
finished eating and drinking, he sent them away, and they returned to their master. So the army
from Aram stopped attacking Israel’s territory. In God’s intervention Israel had victory without
war.

Lesson-15
Youths at the blazing furnace
Bible Portion: Daniel 3

Memory Verse: Isaiah 43:2

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not
overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame
scorch you.

When Nebuchadnezzar was the King of Babylon. He defeated Jerusalem in a war and captured
many Jews as slaves. Among them were, Hananiah, Mishaal and Azariah. The Babylonian king
chose this trio to learn all the literature and languages of Babel, changed their names as Shadrach,
Meshach and Abed-Nego. They still worshiped the living God and lived as per the word of God.

26
After educating them in Babylon, the king appointed them over the affairs of the province of
Babylon.

Once king Nebuchadnezzar set up an image made of gold, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide in
the plain of Dura and commanded all Babylonians to fall down and worship that idol, as soon as
they hear the sound of music. The people fell down and worshiped the idol. Whoever does not
bow down and worship, will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. All people except
Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego worshiped. The king was angry and asked them again to
worship the idol. But they replied, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we will not worship none other than
the Living God. Even if we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver
us from it, and he will deliver us from your hands. But even if he does not, we will not serve your
gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

He ordered the furnace to be heated seven times hotter than usual, tied their hands and legs and
threw them into blazing furnace. The furnace was so hot that the soldiers who threw them in were
burned. Then the king, in amazement, asked his advisers “Weren’t there three men that we tied up
and threw into the fire? But I see four men walking around in the fire unharmed, and the fourth
looks like a son of the gods.” Then the King approached the opening of the furnace and shouted to
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego to come out. They came out, the king saw that the fire had not
done any damage to their bodies, their robes, hair and there was not or even a smell of fire on them.
Then the king said “Praise be to the Living God, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants!
They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives for their
own God.” Thus, through Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego the King came to know the Living
God.

To Submit: Worship only our living God. God honored the faith of the youths. They believed
“even if the Lord does not deliver them, We should trust and worship our living God only.

Lesson-16
Daniel in the Lion’s Den
Bible Portion: Daniel 6

Memory Verse: Psalms 91: 13, 14

You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample
underfoot.
“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high,
because he has known My name.

Daniel was among the Jewish youths, taken by Nebuchadnezzar the Babylonian king, as slaves,
from Jerusalem. Daniel worshiped the only true God, prayed thrice a day and led a life as per the
commandments. He was God fearing and had the gift of divine visions and he could interpret
dreams of others, by God's grace.

King Darius, for administration of his kingdom, appointed 120 princes and over them three
presidents, of whom Daniel was the Chief. An excellent spirit was in him and he outsmarted the
others and therefore the king preferred him above them and decided to put him in charge of the
whole empire. The opponents did not like this, and they were looking for opportunities to destroy
him. But they could not find any fault in him. Knowing that they could trap him only in his
worship, they influenced the king to proclaim an order that anybody who prayed to any God other
than the king, for the next 30 days, will be thrown into the lion's den. Have you seen a Lion? Lion
is the king of the jungle. They kill and eat other animals. You can see Lions in Zoo.
28
The king gave the order without knowing their plot. Though Daniel learned about this, he never
changed his routine prayer. As usual, he opened the window facing Jerusalem and prayed three
times daily. They found this and informed the king. The king knew about their plot only then but
was forced to keep his order. Reluctantly the king sent Daniel to the Lion’s Den saying “Daniel,
your God whom you serve loyally will rescue you.”

The servants put Daniel in the den and a big stone was placed on the door of the cave with the
royal seal. But God, before Daniel reached by the Lions, had send Angels and shut the mouths of
the Lions. The king had a sleepless night of fasting and he reached the den very early in the
morning, and called out, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God whom you serve
continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?” Daniel answered, “My God sent his Angel
before me to shut the mouths of the Lions, so that they have not hurt me. He did this because I am
innocent before Him as well as you”. The king was overjoyed and ordered for Daniel to be pulled
out from the den. The king gave orders to arrest all who plotted against Daniel, with their full
family and put them all in the Lion's Den. The Lions had a great feast and killed them.

To Submit: Worship only the true God! Come what may, we should not worship any other for
worshiping idols is sin. Put your trust in God. Nothing is impossible for Him.

Lesson-17
Birth of Jesus

Bible Portion: Matthew 2:1-23

Memory Verse: Mathew 2:10

When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

Do you have small babies at home? Do you like them? Have you gone to your relative’s house
to see babies? Have you given gift to them? When baby Jesus was born, some people came with
gifts.

Jesus was born at the time of King Herod in Beth–le–hem. That night a glittering star shown in
the east and some wise men followed it to Jerusalem. They came to the palace asking, “Where is
the newborn king of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east and come to worship him”. The
king and the people of Jerusalem were troubled hearing this. The king gathered chief priests and
elders and asked them where the Christ was to be born. They told him that the prefects had said,
will be born in Bethlehem of Judea. But you Bethlehem, in the land of Judea, are not the least
among the rulers of Judea. For out of you shall come a ruler who will shepherd people of
Israel”. The king secretly called the wise men and diligently asked the exact time they saw the
star and send them to Bethlehem asking them to come back after worshipping the baby so that he
himself can go and worship Him. The wise men continued their journey following the star. The
star stood over the house where the baby was laid. They went and saw the baby with His mother
and worshiped Him. They opened their treasure chests and presented him gold, frankincense and
myrrh. God warned them not to go back to King Herod and they returned through another way
knowing the bad intention of the king.

When the wise men had left, the angel of God appeared to Joseph and told him to flee to Egypt
with the baby and Mary the mother. Stay there until I tell you. Joseph then went to Egypt with
Mary and the child and was there till the death of Herod.

30
When Herod found that the wise men had left without coming back to him, he was furious that
they mocked him. Calculating the time, the Wise men said, he ordered all male children up to and
below two years to be killed. So in and around Beth-le-hem all male children of this age were
killed, mothers lamented of their babes. The king thought Jesus also might be killed, but God had
already sent the child safely to Egypt. When King Herod was dead, an angel of the Lord appeared
to Joseph again and asked to come back to Israel with child and mother. Herod’s son Arche-la-us
became king. Joseph was afraid of him also and as God warned him in a dream, they went to
Nazareth in Galilee. Hence, Jesus was called a Nazarene.

Lesson-18
Jesus Baptism and Ministry

Bible Portion: Matthew 3:1-17, Mark 1:9-13, Luke 3:1-22

Memory Verse: Mark 1:15
And saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in
the gospel.”

Jesus grew up in Nazareth of Galilee. There was a man in the wilderness of Judea named John. He
preached to the people that “the kingdom of Heaven is at hand, so ye repent. Do not indulge in sin
for the rule of the lord has started. Live according to His will” thus saying John started teaching.
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness. Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths
straight”- this prophecy of Isaiah was about this John the Baptist. Lot of people in Jerusalem and
Judea repented of their sins and were baptized in the river Jordan by John.

Many leaders of the Jews came to be baptized by him. He continued preaching like this “If you
forsake the fruits of sin, let it be revealed in your life. Do not think and say in your mind we are
the descendants of Abraham. For God is able to raise up children unto Abraham from these
stones. Like we cut down the unfruitful tree, God will destroy if you do not set your ways right. I
baptize you with water unto repentance, but He that comes after me is mightier than me, whose
shoes I am not worthy to bear. He will baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

Jesus, who was in the Galilee area, came to the Jordan where John the Baptist was baptizing. Jesus
requested John to baptize him. John did not agree saying, “I need to be baptized by you, then why
you are coming to me”. But Jesus said, “you baptize me now, thus we can fulfill God’s will.'' John
agreed and baptized Jesus. When Jesus came out of water after baptism, the heavens opened. The
Holy Spirit descended like a dove upon Him and there was a voice “This is my beloved son in
whom I am well pleased.” Jesus was thirty years of age when he was baptized.

32
Jesus was living in Nazareth till then and he started his public ministry after baptism. “The
kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Jesus started spreading this
message among the common people. He healed the sick, gave life to the dead, and did miracles.

Lesson-19
Jesus and disciples

Bible Portion: Matthew 10:1-12, Mark 3:13-19, Luke 6:12-19

Memory Verse: Matthew 4:19

Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

33
Lots of people used to assemble to hear Jesus and see Him do the wonders. Some of them loved
Him deeply, followed him, and believed in him. So Jesus selected 12 men to be with Him, for
spreading the Gospel. They were called disciples, and ‘the twelve’ or the Apostles. They were
given authority and power to casting out unclean spirits and healing all manors of sickness and
diseases. They were always with Jesus.

Apostle means “One who is sent” Simon who is also called Peter, his brother Andrew, James and
John children of Zebedee. Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, the publican, James, the son
of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon and Judas. Out of these, Jude betrayed Jesus for money.

Jesus told the disciples to go to the Jews and proclaim the truth that “heaven is at hand therefore
ye repent and believe the gospel. Use the authority, which I gave you. Do not provide much with
you in your journey. Stay with a worthy person in the city or village where you enter. Those who
receive you, your peace will come upon the house and if they do not receive you or turn you out,
nor listen to you, shake off the dust off your feet and depart. On the last day of judgment, I will
revenge them.”

Since people lived as they liked, Jesus knew they won't like it and react when the message of
repentance was passed on to them. So He told the disciples. “The authorities will arrest you; will
have to face trial in courts. You may be accused before Kings but be not afraid. Put your trust
firmly in God. I will give you strength and tell you what to speak. Be wise as serpents and
harmless as doves.”

Those who suffer and withstand all these persecutions and adversities till the end will become the
property of God. Jesus again said “You are my friends; you have to do my liking. You have to
confess about me before men. I’ll confess about you before my father. Those who deny me before
others will also be denied before my Father.”

Whom do you love most? You may love your parents more. But do not love anything more than
Jesus. Those who lose their life for Jesus will be rewarded much. Anything done in the name of
Jesus will be rewarded abundantly.

you to the Father.

Lesson-20
The sower of the seed
Bible Portion: Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-25, Luke 8:4-15

Memory Verse: Mark 4:20

But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear
fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

Have you seen sowing of the seeds and reaping of the harvest?
Jesus, one day, told the story of a farmer to the people gathered to hear him. Jesus usually spoke
to the people through parables, (talking about something new in similarity or pointing out an
example of a common thing is a parable.)

35
A farmer went to sow seeds in his field. While, sowing some seeds fell by the roadside. People
walked on it, some birds ate it, and thus it was perished. Some fell over stony barren land, though
it sprang up, it dried up due to the excess heat of the sun since it could not spread its roots. Some
fell among thorns but were choked by the thorns when sprang up. But some seeds fell on good
ground and brought forth fruit a hundred-fold and plenty.

The meaning of the parable was this. The seed is the word of God. Some people hear the Word,
but Satan throws it out of their heart, the seed which fell on the roadside denotes this. Some others
hear the word and accept it happily but are not rooted properly in their heart. They depend on the
Lord but in times of trouble, they are not sure of God and do not depend on the Lord and trust
Him: like the seed fell on stony ground, these rootless dry up. The other set of people hear the
word and accept it but are distracted due to their greed for money and worldly pleasures, like the
seed fell among the thorns.

But others, like the seed fell in good ground, accepts the gospel which they hear and live according
to the Word. They fully obey, practice and live according to the will of God. They bear fruit like
hundred-fold. That means, they live according to the will of God and bear the fruits of the Word.

To Submit:
Let us not be mere listeners of the word, but get ready to accept it, obey it and live

Bible Portion: Luke 10:25-37

Memory Verse: 1John 4:7

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and
knows God.

Once a Jewish religious Lawyer came to Jesus and asked Him, “Master What Shall I do to inherit
eternal life”? Jesus asked him, ‘‘What is written in the Law? How do you read it there?” He
answered, “It is written, thou shall love the Lord the God with the whole heart, all thy soul, all thy
strength and with thy entire mind. Love thy neighbor as thyself. ''Jesus said “Your answer is right.
Do this and you will live. Thinking of himself as somebody who knew everything, he asked Jesus
again, “Who is my friend”. Jesus replied through this story.

A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho. On the way, he fell into the hands of
robbers. They stripped him off his garments, wounded and looted him, and left him, half-dead. A
priest, passed that way, saw him but passed by on the other side. Likewise, came a Levite (a
worker in the temple) Just looked at him and passed by without helping. A Samaritan, who was
not related to him in any way (Samaritans and Jews were in enmity) came that way. With
compassion, he went to the half-dead man and cleaned his wound, poured oil and wine, set him on
his donkey and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he gave two denarii of
silver to the innkeeper and told him, “Take care of this man properly, if you have to spend anything
more, I’ll repay it when I come back”.

37
Jesus asked the religious lawyer – “Of all the three, who was the best neighbor “(Friend) to the
man who was caught by the robbers?” He replied,” the one who showed mercy to him.” Jesus
told him “Go and do likewise”. A real friend is one who helps us in need.

Lesson-22
The Intelligent Works
Bible Portion: Matthew 7:13-27
Memory Verse: Matthew 7: 14
Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who
find it.

38
In the society, we see wise men and fools. How do we differentiate them? The wise men are
always thoughtful and cautious before they say or do anything. But the foolish always does
blunders and thoughtless acts without considering the consequences. Usually they are
ignored. Jesus told through parables how we must be.

Jesus continued his Public ministry doing favors and teaching the common people. Once, he told
about two roads. The first road was broad and spacious, and most people travelled that way. But
the other one was narrow and hard and only very few took that way. The first was, the way to
destruction but the second narrow path, the way to life. In this path, you will face hardship and
turbulence, but the end is eternal life. Because, in this way Jesus was there along with the
travelers. The broad way to destruction is pleasing and attractive in the beginning. But the end is
eternal hell because God doesn’t approve this way. Which way will you select?

One man put the foundation on the rocks and built his house. There was heavy rain, floods
and hurricane but the wise man as he built his house on rocks, nothing happened to his house
“Those who hear my words and practices it is like this wise man” Jesus said. But there was another
man, Jesus said, who built his house with foundation on sand. Come rain and flood, his house was
destroyed, and it fell. Those who do not listen to my words and do not obey me are like this foolish
man.

Jesus again told them “Do things that are right and just. Beware of false prophets who come in
sheep’s clothing, but act like wolves, when they get the opportunity. They are like thorny
trees. We decide whether a tree is good or bad, looking at the fruits. If the fruit is not good, the
tree will be cut and burnt. Everyone is judged according to their deeds.

There is a day when Jesus will receive us in heaven. People will say to the Lord ‘We did much
for the lord, cast out the demons, prophesied in your name, did so many miracles in your
name………” But Jesus will surely say “I do not know you. Depart from me, you that work
iniquity”. So be careful not to be fools like these. Only those who do the will of the heavenly
father will enter heaven. Let us be with the wise man who does the will of Jesus.

39
To Submit: We must know and understand the blessings of obeying the word and the consequence
of a disobedient life. God’s will for us is to love Him and obey his commandments.

To Evaluate:

1. What are the two ways?

........................................................
2. About whom did Jesus say to be careful?
......................................................
3. Where did the wise build the house?
........................................................
4. How will those who disobey his teachings be?

Lesson-23
A Wedding Reception
Bible Portion: Matthew 22 1-14, Luke 14:12-24

Memory Verse: Matthew 22:14

“For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Do you like attending a wedding? Why? (Let the children say). Who get the maximum attention
in a wedding? The bride and the groom. Who all will come for the wedding? Once, a King
conducted a wedding reception. He invited many guests. But none of them came. What might
have happened there?

One day Jesus went for having food in a Jewish leader’s home. While having food, one of them
said, “Blessed is the one that will eat bread in the kingdom of God”. Hearing this Jesus said a
parable. Once a king arranged a feast and invited many dignitaries. At the exact time when the
feast was ready, he sent his servants to remind them and bring them for reception. The first one

40
said, “I have bought some land. I am unable to come, as I have to go there. Please excuse me. ''
Another one said, “I have brought ten oxen. I am sorry I cannot come now because I have to
examine them. '' The third one said, “I have married a wife. So I cannot come now”

Each one put up excuses and did not come. Some people even attacked the servants and killed
them. The angry king asked his servants to go to the streets and invite all those whom you see, the
poor, the maimed, the disabled, the blind and the like. The servants did that and again there was
space. So the king again send the servants to bring people good or bad from the highways and
hedges to fill in the seats with guests. When the reception hall was full the king entered. When,
the king looked at them he noticed one man sitting without the wedding garment, the special dress
an invitee had to wear when attending a wedding. The king asked him, “How come you are in
without the wedding garment?” He had no answer. The king ordered his servants to bind him and
throw him out into the darkness, the place of weeping and bitterness. “Many will be invited into
the kingdom of God but only very few will be selected” Jesus said.

Ask your Teacher!

Lesson-24
The father who lost his son

Bible Portion: Luke 15:11-32

Memory Verse: Luke 15:24
for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ And they began to be
merry.

A certain man had two sons. One day the younger son asked the father, “Abba, please give my
share of the properties”. The father divided the properties between his sons. Few days later the
younger son sold his part of the property and left home with the money to a country far off. He
had a lot of friends and enjoyed life and wasted all his money for pleasure. Then a severe famine
spread all over the country. All his friends left him, as there was no money with him. Jobless, he
searched for work and one farmer engaged him to take care of pigs. He had nothing to eat. He
tried to fill his stomach with the bean pods given to the pigs, but no one gave him even that.

At last, he came to his senses, understood his foolishness and said, “All my father’s hired servants
have more than they can eat. Here I am starving. I will return to my father and say Father I’ve
sinned against you and God. I am not fit to be called your son. Treat me like one of your hired
servants”. So he got up and started back to his father. But the father who was sad and worried
about his son since the day he left, saw him, from a long way and ran to greet him, threw his arms
around him, hugged and kissed him. The son said, “Father I’ve sinned against you and God. I am
not worthy to be called your son”. But the father ordered his servants “Remove his worn and torn
out clothes. Bathe him and put on the best robe. Put a ring on his finger and shoes on his feet.
Order for a feast with the prize calf and celebrate for this my son was dead but now alive. He was
lost but has been found.”

Mean time the older son came home from the field. He never knew about all these
happenings. Hearing the music and dancing he asked a servant, “What is going on”. The servant
replied, “Your brother has come back home. And your father is celebrating with a feast.” The

42
angry elder brother would not go into the house. Father came out, comforted him, and invited him
in. He said, “All these years I have served you like a slave, without disobeying you. What have
you given me! Not even a goat to feast with my friends. But this son wasted all your money and
when he comes back you kill the prize calf for him?” But the father said, “My son you were always
here with me and everything I have is yours. But this your brother was dead, now he is alive. He
was lost but now he is found. So we have to celebrate that.”

To Submit:
Taste the sweet presence of God, repent of our ways, and turn back to God. Always be in His
presence. God forgives the sinner when he confesses his sins.

Lesson-25
Lost coin and the sheep
Bible Portion: Luke 15:1-10, John 10:1-16
Memory Verse: John 10:9
I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

Have you ever lost anything that you earned out of hard work? Won’t you be sad if you lost
something like that? What will you do then? Search for it? What if you get back what was lost?
Won’t you be happy? Let us learn about it from some parables that Jesus said.

43
Once, a shepherd had a flock of 100 sheep. The shepherd loved his sheep very much. What if one
night he lost one sheep? Wouldn’t he feel sad? Wouldn’t he leave the other 99 and look for the
lost sheep? YES! That night itself, the shepherd left his 99 sheep and searched for the lost sheep.
In that dark night the shepherd got wounded walking on the sharp stones and thorns. But he
continued his search and at last he finds the lost sheep. He happily carries the sheep on his
shoulders, back to the herd. That night he calls his friends and neighbors to celebrate with him
saying “I have found my lost sheep so rejoice with me”.

Dear Children, Jesus is like the good shepherd. If we sin, we are like the lost sheep that was lost.
That will make our God sad and will compel us to come back to God. But if we hear His word and
repent our sins and come back to God, there will be rejoicing in heaven because he has regained
his lost glory.

Jesus told another story. A woman had ten silver coins, which she kept carefully and safely. But
one coin was lost. She lit a lamp, swept the house and thoroughly searched for it. Since it was
very precious to her, she searched and searched till she found it. When she found it, she called all
her friends and relatives and gladly told them, “Rejoice with me for I have found my lost coin”.

Jesus explained again saying, “Like this, when a person sins, he goes astray from the Lord. When
he finds the Lord again, God and the angels rejoice over him”.

Jesus spoke to them again, “There are a lot of false shepherds. They do not enter the sheepfold
through the gate but climbs over the wall like a thief. But the sheep know and recognizes the voice
of the shepherd. The shepherd calls his sheep by their name. The sheep recognize his voice and
follows him. Those who recognize the true shepherd will not go after the false shepherds”. Jesus
again said, “I am the door of the sheep. Many false shepherds have come before me. I am the only
way and the savior. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd will lay his life for the sheep.
The false shepherd, who does not own the sheep, will flee when the enemy (devil) comes, and the
enemy will snatch the sheep”.

44
To Submit:
When a lost sinner repents, heaven will rejoice. God is the good shepherd who comes in search
of the lost men. He spent his life to save us.

To Evaluate:
1. How many sheep did the shepherd have? How many was lost?

Lesson-26
The Wise Virgins

Bible Portion: Matthew 25:1-13

Memory Verse: Matthew 25:13

Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

How will you prepare to go to school? Or For going to church? Or What will you arrange while
going for a tour? Jesus told the story of 10 Virgins who awaited the groom.

During Jesus time, Jewish weddings were conducted at night. Once, ten virgins were awaiting the
groom at night. Out of the ten, five were wise and smart. Each one took their lamp and flasks of
oil. The other five foolish virgins took their lamp but did not take oil. All virgins were waiting for
the grooms. The groom was delayed, and all the virgins slept. But at midnight, there was a call,
45
“Here is the bridegroom, come out to meet him”. All the virgins got up from their sleep and lit
their lamps. Those foolish virgins saw their lamps were going out and pleaded for oil to the wise
virgins. But the wise answered, “If we give oil to you, there will not be enough for both of us, so
please go to the dealer and buy for yourself”. While the foolish went for oil, the bridegroom came,
and those who were ready with the lit lamp, went in with him to the marriage feast and the door
was shut.

Later, the virgins who went to buy oil came and knocked on the door, “Lord, Lord Open the door
to us also. Please let us in” they cried. The door did not open for them. The bridegroom said, “I
don’t know you”. They were so worried. They could not enter for the feast with the groom.

Jesus then told the multitude.” Nobody knows the time when the groom is going to come. So, you
be always ready”.

To Submit: We must be ready and wait for the Lord’s second coming. Let us be ready like the
wise virgins. We must not be irresponsible and ignore what is to be done. Always be awake, as
nobody knows when the Lord is coming.

Lesson-27
A Rich Man’s Journey

Bible Portion: Matthew 25:14-30

Memory Verse: Matthew 25:23(a)
His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few
things, I will make you ruler over many things.

There lived a man who was very rich. He decided to go on a trip to a foreign land. He called his
servants and said to them, “I am going on a long journey and will be away for quite some time.
So, take care of my wealth while I am away”.

He divided his wealth among them. To the first one he gave five talents, to the second he gave two
talents, and the third he gave one talent. The first one who got five talents started trading his talents
and earned five more and he was very happy. So also, the second one worked hard and gained
another two talents. But the third one who got one talent did not do anything. He dug a hole in the
earth and hid his talent hoping to return it to his master when he came back.

After some time, the man came back. The servants came and met him to share the news of the past
days. The Master asked about the wealth he gave them. The first one came and told him “Lord I
have earned five more talents with the five you gave me. The man replied “Well done, You are
good and faithful. I have given you five talents and you have earned five more. I will entrust you
much more responsibility”. The second one also came happily and said,” Lord thou have given me
two talents with which I have earned two more.” The Master was happy and said, “Good I will
give you more responsibilities. Come join us and be happy. Then the third one who got one talent
came and said to the man, “I knew you are a hard man. I was afraid and hid your talent in the
ground. Now here it is, you may take it”. The Master was furious, He said, “You wicked and lazy
servant, you should have put my money at least with gold merchants, so that I could get it back
with interest”. He took the talent from the lazy servant and gave it to the one who had ten talents.

The Master said, “Only those who are like the first servant will flourish in life. They will be
blessed. To everyone that has, will be given more. But from those who do not have, will be taken
47
away from them. Those who are good for nothing will be thrown to the outer darkness. There will
be weeping and gnashing of teeth”. Friends God has created each one of us with different talents.
To sing, to speak, to serve, to study, to learn by heart......… The Lord says find out your talents
and use it for the Lord.

Lesson-28
Prayer- What is it and What not

Bible Portion: Luke 11:1-13; 18:1-14

Do you pray at home? Do you pray before you go to school? Do you pray when you are alone?

Memory Verse: Luke 11:10

For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be
opened.

48
Jesus tells us to pray without ceasing. Jesus taught the disciples how to pray. Many of the disciples
of Jesus, where disciples of John the Baptist earlier. John had taught them how to pray. So, one
day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord,
teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” He said to them, “When you pray, say: Father,
hallowed be your name, your kingdom come as in Heaven so in Earth. Give us each day our daily
bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And lead us not
into temptation but deliver us from evil”.

Then Jesus explained to them with a parable, “Suppose a man goes to his friend at midnight and
says, Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me,
and I have nothing to set before him.” Then the one inside answers, “Don’t bother me. The door
is already locked, and my children are with me in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’’ But
the man does not go away but persistently knocks and requests to lend the loaves of bread. Because
of the persistence, his friend will get up and give him as much as he needs.

Jesus said, ” if you ask God, God will give you. Pray to God and he will hear your prayer. God
will not let down anybody who comes to Him with a need. Knock, it shall be opened for you. Ask,
it shall be given to you”. Jesus continued, “If your son asks for bread, will the father give a stone?
If he asks fish, will the father give a serpent? If he asks for egg, will the father give him a scorpion?
Though you are evil, you know how to give good gifts to your children.” God is our heavenly
father. He will give much more good things than they ask”.

Jesus told another parable to some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked
down on everyone else. “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a
tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other
people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and
give a tenth of all I get.’ He exalted and justified himself and thought himself to be above others.

But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but he cried and
said, ‘God, have mercy on me, I’m a sinner.’ God accepted the tax Collectors prayer. And Jesus
told later “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all
those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be

49
exalted.” God does not look at self-justifying, self-exalting people but those who humble
themselves, repent their sins, and confess it.

To Submit: Do not loose heart but ask God for all our needs. If we pray with repentance and a
broken heart God will help us. Ask God humbly and lowering ourselves.

To Evaluate:

1. Many of the disciples of Jesus where whose disciples before?

Zacchaeus on the Fig Tree
Bible Portion: Luke 19:1-10

Memory Verse : John 1:12

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those
who believe in His name

Once Jesus was travelling through Jericho, and many people followed Him. There was a rich man
in that city named Zacchaeus. He heard the teachings and miracles of Jesus and wanted to see Him.
He was a tax collector for the Roman Government. People disliked Zacchaeus because he was a

50
greedy man and cheated people while he collected tax. He was a short man and could not see Jesus
among the crowd. Because of his immense desire to see Jesus he climbed on a fig tree on the way
that Jesus was going. He thought that he could hide on the fig tree and that no one would see him.

When Jesus and the people came under the tree, Jesus looked up and said “Zacchaeus, come down
from the tree. I am staying in your house tonight”. Zacchaeus was filled with surprise because he
just wanted to see Jesus and did not expect Jesus would stay at his house. He hurriedly climbed
down and happily received Jesus into his house. The crowd started murmuring that “Jesus was
going to stay with a sinner”.

Zacchaeus was overjoyed and before Jesus told him anything, he told Jesus “I’ll give half of my
wealth to the poor. I’ve collected extra tax from many. I’ll repay that back by four times”.

Zacchaeus confessed his sins. Jesus said, “today salvation has come to this house. I’ve come to
seek the lost and bring them to fellowship with God”. Thus, Zacchaeus and his family were saved.

Lesson-30
Jesus restores a demon possessed man

Bible Portion: Mark 5:1-20, Luke 8:26-37

Memory Verse: Matthew 8:16

When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast
out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick.

Jesus travelled throughout the nation teaching and healing the people who followed Him. One day,
He crossed the Sea of Galilee, east of Palestine, on a boat. (Galilee is 12 miles long and 7 miles
wide and also known as lake Gennesaret and sea of Tiberius). Jesus came to a place Gerasene with
the disciples. A man with many unclean spirits who was dwelling among the tombs came and
greeted Jesus. Everyone was afraid of him since he was controlled by many evil spirits. He used
to beat himself with stones on his body and used to break the chains with which he was bound.
Seeing Jesus coming from afar, he ran to Him, bowed, and said “What have I to do with you Jesus
thou son of the highest God. For God’s sake, do not torment me”. It was the evil spirits in him that
made him shout like that. The evil spirit trembled when it saw the Holy God. Jesus rebuked the
evil spirit in him and commanded “Evil spirit come out of this man” Jesus asked, “what is your
name” and he replied, “my name is Legion for we are many.” They pleaded “please do not send
us out of this country”. There a great herd of swine were feeding. They requested, “Please send us
into them.” Jesus gave permission to the evil spirits and it entered into the herd of swine who
violently ran down a steep place into the sea. There were about two thousand who were choked in
the sea.

Those men who looked after the swine fled to the city and informed people about what had
happened, and they gathered and came to Jesus. They were surprised to see that man, sitting there
with Jesus dressed well and in right mind. The swine owners were disappointed of their loss and
they prayed Jesus to depart out of their boundaries.

52
When Jesus was about to return, the devil possessed man also wanted to go with Him, but Jesus
said to him, “Go home to thy friends and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you”.
Like Jesus told, he went far and wide in the country telling what has happened and people were
surprised.

Faith of the Gentile woman

Bible Portion: Matthew 15:21-28, Mark 7:24-30

Memory Verse: James 5:15

And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed
sins, he will be forgiven.

Jesus used to travel different places teaching, healing the sick and comforting them. In spite of all
his busy schedule He set apart specific time for prayer.

53
He reached the cities of Tyre, Sidon and went into a house. Jesus did not want people to know He
was there. He knew that if people knew about His presence they will come with many needs. But
one woman came there crying and fell at his feet. She was a Greek woman from Syrophenicia
whom the Jews hated. She cried to Jesus to cast out the demon from her daughter. Jesus did not
say anything. Jesus and disciples departed from the house. But she wept and cried and followed
them. The disciples asked Jesus to send her away as she was after them crying. Jesus said, “I am
sent to the lost sheep of Israel; it is not possible to take their children’s bread (their privilege) and
cast it to dogs.”

But the woman who had abundant faith in Jesus said, “Truth Lord, yet the dogs eat the crumbs
that fell from their master’s table”, Jesus was surprised at her faith which was not to be seen in his
own people. Jesus answered her, “Oh! Woman, thy faith is great, Be it happen to you as you
wished.”

The same moment her daughter was delivered from the evil spirit. When she came home, she saw
her daughter delivered of the devil and happy. Those who believe in Jesus, irrespective of their
caste or creed, will be healed. God has no difference between great one and a small one. Jesus
cares for people from all walks of life. God has no partiality.

Lesson-32
Jesus Appears in Heavenly Glory

Bible Portion: Matthew 17:1-9, Mark 9:1-10

Memory Verse: Matthew 4:10(b)
For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’

One day Jesus went up a high mountain with Peter, John and Jacob. Like this, Jesus has taken
these three before as well. Jesus used to go up the mountain to pray to His father. Reaching the
mountain, His face began to shine like the sun and his garments were white as light, white like
nobody on this earth could wash. There appeared before them the Old Testament saints Elijah and
Moses talking to Jesus. (Let the children express what they know about them.)

The disciples were astonished at the shine and heavenly glory Jesus had in his transfiguration.
Peter, who was amazed at the sight, asked Jesus “Lord it is good for us to be here. If thou wish, let
us make here three tabernacles one for you, one for Elijah and one for Moses. Peter was so excited
that he forgot himself. While he yet spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them and came a voice
out of it. “This is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased, Hear Ye Him.” Hearing these
disciples were frightened. Though Jesus was beside them, they trembled and fell on His feet and
worshipped him. Jesus came and touched them, “Arise and be not afraid”. When they looked up,
they saw only Jesus as the other two had disappeared.

Jesus used to take Peter, John and Jacob with him for special missions.

To Submit:
The vision of Jesus in Heavenly Glory is impossible to the human eye. When we pray earnestly
with full concentration of Him, we can see the Heavenly Glory. Jesus is the only one worthy to be
worshipped. None has come so far. No one will come further.

Lesson-33
Crucifixion of Jesus
Bible Portion: Mark 15:1-41

Memory Verse: 1 Corinthians 15:3

For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins
according to the Scriptures,

The Jewish priests, elder’s lawyers, etc. did not like the ministry of Jesus. They hated His preaching
and healing and the numerous wonders He did. They were trying for an opportunity and thus they
caught Him and brought Him before the Roman Governor Pilate. So, Pilate questioned Him and
asked, “Are you the King of the Jews”? And Jesus said “I am”. The priests shouted against Him

56
and accused Him of so many things with the testimony of false witnesses. But Jesus kept his
silence. Pilate asked Him. “Behold how many things they witness against you but why are you not
speaking”? Pilate was surprised to see Jesus was not saying anything. Do you know children if
Jesus asked His Father, the Father could send lakhs of Angels to deliver Him? But Jesus silently
suffered this humiliation.

During the feast, they had a custom of releasing one prisoner whom the people wanted. Pilate knew
that Jesus was innocent, and he was caught because the priests were jealous of Him. So he asked
people “Shall I release to you the king of the Jews?” Because of the influence of the priests, the
people asked to release Barabbas who was imprisoned thief. So Pilate asked again. “Then what
shall I do with this, King of the Jews?” – “Crucify Him, Crucify Him,” they yelled. (The Romans
punished the guilty in many ways, beheading, stoning, etc. The most cruel and condemned way
was crucifixion.) Pilate again asked them, “what wrong has he done”? But the people again
screamed “Crucify, Crucify.” Pilate, to please the people released Barabbas and ordered Jesus to
be crucified.

Like a field is ploughed, they beat him with a specially made whip, thirty- nine times. They clothed
Him with purple and put a crown of thorns on his head and smote it with a reed. Blood gushed out.
They mocked him and spit on his face. He had to carry the cross to Calvary, but because of the
wounds, He was unable to carry the heavy cross, but they beat him and compelled him. (Jews will
not touch the cross.) Jesus became so weak and was falling, so on the way they saw Simon the
Cyrenian and compelled him to carry the cross. They came to Golgotha, laid Him on the cross and
nailed on the hands and feet. They wrote, “Jesus the king of Jews” on top of the cross. They gave
him wine mingled with myrrh which He did not drink. Two thieves were also crucified with Him,
one on His right and the other on His left.

For three hours there was darkness everywhere. Jesus said aloud “Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?
meaning “My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken me”. They gave him vinegar on a sponge to
drink, but he did not. He cried aloud and gave his life to the Father. That moment the curtain in
the temple was torn into two. The centurion who was watching said, truly He was the son of God.
Many of the women and acquaintance of Jesus were weeping, seeing all this. In the evening Joseph
of Arimathea, collected the body of Jesus and buried in a sepulcher carved out in a rock.

57
To Submit:

Lesson-34
Jesus Resurrected and is Alive

Bible Portion: Mark 16:1-20, Acts. 1:6-14

Memory Verse: Acts 1:8

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be
witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

The third day after Jesus died was the first day of the week and Mary, Mary Magdalene and Salome
went to the sepulcher with sweet spices to anoint the body. They were quite anxious about who
will roll the big stone that covered Jesus’ tomb. They were surprised to see the stone was removed
58
already when they reached. Happily, they entered the tomb. But to their astonishment, they saw a
man with white dress sitting there, and they were frightened. He said, “Be not afraid. The crucified
JESUS whom you seek is no more here. He has resurrected. Behold the place where they laid him.
Go tell this to Peter and the disciples.” Trembling with fear, the women fled from there and
informed them as told.

After resurrection, Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene first. She ran to the weeping fellow sisters
and brothers. “Jesus is alive. I’ve seen Him.” But they did not believe this. Not later JESUS
appeared to two disciples. When they told this to others, they did not believe. The eleven disciples
sat together for food and Jesus appeared in their midst. He rebuked them for their disbelief and
hardened heart.

Jesus told the disciples as his last commandment. “Go ye into the entire world and preach the
gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized will be saved. He that does not believe
shall be damned. For those who believe, signs shall accompany them. In my name, they’ll cast out
demons and speak in tongues. God will save them from deadly situations. If they pray for the sick,
they will be healed. I’ll be with you till the end of the world.”

Jesus met his disciples and gave them advises. It was time for Jesus to go back to His father since
He has completed what He was entrusted. He blessed them. A cloud covered them when they were
looking. He was lifted up to heaven. While they were gazing up to heaven, two men in white stood
by them and said, “Men of Galilee; this Jesus who was taken up from you into heaven will come
in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

To Evaluate:
1. Who all went to Jesus’ sepulcher?
........................................................
2. Who will be damned?
........................................................
3. Why did Jesus rebuke the disciples?
........................................................
4. To whom did Jesus appear first after resurrection?

59
........................................................

Ask your Teacher:

What is the benefit I have as Jesus resurrected?

What is Jesus doing now?

To Submit: Jesus who defeated death and resurrected is still alive. His presence is always there
with us. He’ll come again to take us.
