In this teaching method, the teacher will use the three principles of English
Teaching Method to improve their reading, speaking and also writing skill:

1. Silent process
2. Exposure/habit
3. Meaningful context (real situation)

Activity 1 (Pre-Activity)

Before the teacher gives the video related to the material, the teacher ask the

Students first, “Have you ever got lost” ?

 The teacher gives a video the conversation between two people, one of the
speaker of the video and asks the students to guess what the video is. Before
the teacher tells to the student about the video, the teacher will ask some
question to the student related to the video that the teacher give to the
student.

 After that, the teacher asks the student kinds of question


1. According to the video, how is the first speaker say to other speaker for the
first time to asking direction?
The student will answer “ about nanya dimana restaurant” ?
You as the teacher correct your student answer, “ yes, you are right. The
first speaker say “where is the restaurant take place?”

2. How is the second speaker response the first speaker ?


The student will answer “ i dont know”
So you as the teacher will repeat the video until your student get the
information
3. How is the second speaker’s response the first speaker to give the direction
to the restaurant ? anyone knows ?

The teacher give a correction to the student in order to make them realized
the right ones. It that cases, we have silent period. The student will correct
their mistake directly because the teacher is correct their answer but the
teacher do not blame her/his student although the student make mistakes in
speaking.

 After asking the students related to the video. The teacher have to tell the
student her/himself experience how to go to the canteen in english. In this
case, the teacher is a role model.
Example :
If i want to go to the canteen. First, i must go ahead after that turn left,
then..............

Vocabulary

 The teacher give the student some picture related to direction and ask them to
guess what the sign is.

Activity 2 (While Activity)

Listening

The teacher asks the students to listen to the record in tape recorder according to
giving direction. Then, they are required to arrange the picture based on what they
hear.

The teacher also can make a games, we called it “Direction Games” . So, the rules
are :
1. One person be a blind man, he should close his eyes with anything so that he can

not look around

2. One person be a man who give the direction to the blind man, he should show the

direction correctly so the blind man can win.

This games are quite useful because they can learn about direction unconciously.
They will know the vocabulary related to direction.

Reading
1. Can you please help me? I am looking for the ............ Do you know where it is?

Why, sure. The ................. is on Back Street, just south of the Elementary and

Middle Schools.

2. Excuse me. Could you please tell me where the ................ is?

Yes. It's on Long Avenue between McDab's and the Parking Lot.

Sure, it's located across from the grocery store next to the Elementary School.

Speaking

 You as the teacher asks your student to look up the map, then they are
required to make a group in pairs for conversation of each others.

Student A : Excuse me, I am looking for the cafe

Student B : The cafe is near from here

Student A : Could you tell me how to get to the cafe, please?

Student B : Of course, you go straight ahead until you meet the second traffic
lights. Then you turn right to 2nd Avenue street. Cafee is the first
building on the left side of the 2nd Avenue street, opposite to
drugstore and in front of the bar.
 After finishing conversation, they change their partner and make the second
conversation with other friends.

 The teacher asks one of the student to perform in front of the class as
volunteer. They will show their conversation

For another speaking ability, you can ask your students to tell or show how is the
way to go to canteen, so on. If your student do not know the vocabulary in english,
they may ask to their teacher for the more explanation.

Writing

 The teacher will give the student a picture below, the teacher ask them to
make a sentences about direction based on the picture in written form.
Illustration :

1.The railway station is at the end of the road, between the bank and the library.
2.The bank is at the end of the road on the left-hand side and opposite the library.
3.The library is at the end of the road, on the right-hand side and opposite the bank.
4. The post office is on the left-hand side, opposite the cinema and next to the bank.
5. The concert hall is between the cinema and the hotel on the right of the street.
6.The football ground is on the right, behind the police station.
7.The market is in the middle of the street.

Another activity :
You asks your students to make a map from their house to college and explain it in
written form.

Activity 4 (Post Activity)

1. The teacher explain the material

2. The teacher give homework, they will produce the direction text about “how to get

to your house from school” as creative as they can.

3. The teacher closes the meeting.
