1 Emergency automatic rescue device SN series

Emergenzamatic S.r.l. thanks you for choosing the product SN series, which is a rescue device for
lifts with synchronous hoist motor, designed to perform the emergency operation of taking the lift
car to the nearest floor in a fixed direction and opening its doors in case of lack of main supply or
electrical breakdowns of the controller.

The device makes use of a set of 12V batteries (up to 10) and exploits the on board inverter cards
for the feeding of the main synchronous motor and of the single-phase or three-phase door motor. It
does not operate if the safety circuits of the lifts are out of order for any reason.

The device consists of two separate metallic cabinets and it especially fits the machine-roomless
lifts. The first of these cabinets includes the electric and electronic components, the second one,
whose location is foreseen immediately below the first one, includes the battery set.

The purpose of this workbook is to support the installer during the commissioning and to give all
necessary information for the accurate use and maintenance; if something in the instructions is not
enough clear or further explanations are required, do not hesitate to get in touch with our
technicians.

2 The electronics

An advanced microcomputer system controls and

manages all operating phases. By means of an
electronic power card it is able to feed the main
motor, the door motor, the brake and the retiring
cam (if any).

The functioning of the device has been designed

with special attention to safety; for this reason it has
been equipped with some electronic protections
ahead described able to intervene in case of various
anomalies.

Programming and displaying of all parameters

which contributes to the working of the device are
performed by means of a multi-tool box bearing keys,
LED and a seven segments
display, which can be
remotely (14 meters max.)
used.

On request, the
manufacturer can supply an
emergency light indicator to
place inside the lift car,
which switches on during
the rescue operation. It can
be also equipped with a pre-
recorded vocal message.

3 Emergency travel function

Two are the conditions because the device can start its intervention:
! When the lift car is out of floor level;
! When the lift car is at floor level, but the passengers are trapped because the doors are
closed.

3.1 Lift car out of floor level

The device will start its intervention when the following conditions are given:
! The contacts between [P1] and [P2] are closed (voltage at [I] terminal).
! No voltage at [FR] terminals, usually connected to brake terminals.
! Lift car is out of floor level and voltage at [K] terminal (i.e. I-K contact close).
A few seconds after the starting conditions are given, the microcomputer board - after
showing the countdown of the adjustable TA waiting time - feeds RA.., RO.. and RS.. relays
(whose contacts enable the energization of the contactors of the device through the safety
circuits) and the single-phase inverter. So, the single-phase transformer is enabled to feed
the circuits of brake, retiring cam (if any) and doors (in order to eventually close the lift car
door if they are open).

4
The switching on of the single-phase inverter and the energization of RS relay will cause the
energization of the two travel contactors which will give green light to the three-phase
section to start the emergency travel of the lift car in the fixed direction.
NOTE: The direction is fixed by the way of connecting the three phases to the terminal
board of the device.
When the lift car will reach floor level (lack of voltage at K terminal), RS relay will be de-
energized after a TE (adjustable) time, which is the time necessary to the lift car to stop
exactly at floor level. Also the three-phase inverter will be switched off, as well as the travel
contactors that cause the stop of the emergency travel.
After the stop at floor level, relay RO will remain energized for some more seconds
(adjustable TAP time) and the inverter will feed the door motor to open the lift car door.

3.1.1 Operating travel phase

This is the phase of the motion of the lift car in the fixed direction to the floor; it
consists of the four following steps:
Start Motor control: the device verify the motor, looking for the best power factor.
During this phase the display shows “ctrr”.
Poles reset: The device initially feeds the hoist motor causing the coupling of the
poles. During this step, the feeding given to the motor could cause a moving of the lift
car. The display shows “ctrP”.
Sweep-Up: During this step the on board computer of the device feeds the motor
according to an optimum frequency ramp and, checking the reaction of the motor,
automatically positions itself at the maximum permitted speed with full respect to the
safety conditions. The display shows “ctrU”.
Run: After reaching the optimum travel condition, the device keeps feeding the hoist
motor until the lift car reaches the nearest floor. During this phase the display shows
“rund”.
Sweep-Down: When the lift car reaches the floor zone, the device reduces the travel
speed by means of a scaling down frequency ramp till the final stop of the motor,
according to the TE time previously fixed.

3.1.2 TMAX maximum time of intervention

When the emergency travel starts, the device sets and adjustable maximum operating
time (TMAX). If the lift car for any reason has not reached the floor within this time,
the device will disconnect itself automatically, displaying the code Pxx.
The Emergenzamatic device will automatically reset and will return to standby
condition, as soon the lift car will pass through one of the floors by opening I-K
contact.

3.2 Lift car at floor level

The Emergenzamatic device offers also the possibility of intervening to just open the door.
Two are the conditions which starts this function:
! The contacts between [P1] and [P2] are closed (voltage at [I] terminal).
! No voltage at [MA] terminals, usually connected to [M1] and [NL] terminals (no power
at lift manoeuvre circuits).
! Lift car at floor level and no voltage at K terminal (i.e. I-K contact open).
Under these conditions, the device will start the energization of RO and RA relays and the
switching on of the single-phase inverter for the feeding of the door motor for a few seconds
(TAP time), adjustable to completely open the door.
5
4 On board protection system

The device is equipped with some protections especially destined to prevent any condition of
danger.
The intervention of the protections is announced by the sound of the on board buzzer and by the
switching on of the LED “ALARM” on the display.
In order to be easily identified, each protection makes reference to a two-digit hexadecimal code
shown on the display. When more protections are simultaneously intervening, the code displayed is
the sum of each single code of error.
The list of the codes is described in the table: “Messages of Error”.

5 Messages displayed during the intervention of the device

By means of the four-digit display of the multi-tool box supplied with the device, the system shows
some messages. These consist of two types: “Standard Messages” and “Messages of Error”.

5.1 Standard Messages

They are the messages normally displayed during the standard working. Here below a self-
explanatory table:

Display DESCRIPTION
T A x x Shows in xx the passing of TA time from the starting condition (lift car
out of floor level) to the energization of RO and RS relays. If the
conditions causing the intervention of the device disappear during this
phase, the device goes back to standby status.
R O 0 0 The device is energizing RO relay
R S 0 0 The device is energizing RS relay
a T x x Is shown if the contactors cannot be energized because the safety circuits
are open.

5.2 Messages of error
Here below a table showing the codes of all possible errors:

Table 1 for messages when the device is in stand-by condition:

Code TYPE DESCRIPTION

bt1L Single phase low The voltage for single-phase section is too low (Bt1L) or
bt1H voltage or high too high (Bt1H).
voltage Verify: the connection of [+24] terminal to the batteries and
the status of relevant batteries.
bt3L Three phase low The voltage for three-phase section is too low (Bt3L) or too
voltage or high high (Bt3H).
bt3H
voltage
Verify: the connection of [S] terminal to batteries, the
concurrence between N-BAT entry value and quantity of
batteries connected, and the status of relevant batteries.
bt1A Battery charger Even if the device need to charge the batteries, the relevant
section current (related single-phase to section for bt1A or three-
bt3A
breakdown phase section for bt3A) doesn’t flow correctly.
Verify the battery charger fuses.
Table 2 for messages showed during rescue operation:

Code TYPE DESCRIPTION

Er01 Single phase The current supplied by single-phase section is beyond the
short circuit limits. In order to avoid any breakdown of the components
involved, the system intervenes by switching off the single-
phase section and, if necessary, also the three-phase section
and RCF relay for few seconds (during which a buzzer
sounds). After this time it re-starts from the initial stage,
also performing the Sweep again.
Verify: the connections with the lift controller, by trying to
cut temporarily off one by one all the parts fed by single-
phase section until the one producing the anomaly is
individuate.
In case of said verification has no result, decrease the
voltage of the component which causes the short circuit by
moving the relevant tap in the inverter transformer.

7
Er02 Three- phase The current supplied by three-phase section is beyond the
short circuit limits. In order to avoid any breakdown of the components
involved, the system intervenes by switching off – apart
from the three-phase section - also RCF relay and the
single-phase section for few seconds (during which a buzzer
sounds). After this time it re-starts from the initial stage,
also performing the Sweep again.
Verify: the connections with the motor or a possible
breakdown by cutting temporarily off these connections.
In case of said verification has no result, reduce the value of
I-NOM.
Er04 No current to the The three-phase current goes below 4 Amperes. In this case
motor the device switches off single and three-phase sections and
RCF relay. After this time it re-starts from the initial stage
or about two seconds (during which a buzzer sounds).
Verify: the connections with the motor.
In case of said verification has no result, increase the value
of I-NOM and/or reduce the value of FR-INI.
Er08 Insufficient The motor current is not enough to maintain it under
current of motor control. The device change automatically its running
parameter (e.g. by increasing the power factor). Whenever
it is not possible to maintain the motor under control, the
device will close the brake, coming back to sweep up phase.
Verify: the status of batteries.
N.B. this protection could appear together with Er20 or
Er40 (see below). In this case stop the test and wait until the
batteries are fully charged.
In case of said verification has no result, increase the value
of I-NOM.
Er0F CR error The relay checking the brake is damaged.
Solution: Replace RCF relay.
Er10 Tmax When the maximum time pre-set from the starting in
“RUN” stage expires without the device can receive “K”
information, it switches itself off until a lack of “K”
information will be detected again.
Verify the closing of the doors during the run, the
information of lift car at floor level (fall of voltage at “K”
terminal).
In case of said verification has no result, increase the Tmax
time previously set.
Er20 Battery The voltage of the batteries is too low.
minimum
Under this condition the device cuts off the batteries by
switching off itself until the level of the batteries raises to
an acceptable value.
Solution: wait for the charging of the batteries or replace
them.

8
Er40 Battery alarm The voltage of the batteries is too low, even if it is possible
continue the rescue.
Verify the status of battery set.
Er80 Error VDCT It can be caused by:
- Lack of the energization voltage of the contactors (if so
the device keeps trying for the whole Tmax time);
- The energization voltage is always ON (if so the device
will switch off after Tmax expires).
Solution: get in touch with the distributor of the device.
ErF0 Error in memory The values in memory are out of range or not compatible.
Under this conditions the values of default are restored.
Solution: get in touch with the distributor of the device.
--- Lack of Main If the lack of main supply is uninterruptedly prolonged for
Supply more than one hour, the device switches off itself. No code
of error.
Verify if the lack of single-phase feeling to the battery
charger is caused by a breakdown.

6 Battery charger

The microprocessor of the device manages the on-board

converter power card, which is equipped with a battery
charger section able to support – together with the proper
“Trasf. C/Batt.” transformer – the battery set used by the
device.
The battery charging takes place through the control and the
feeding of [+24] and [S] terminals where the batteries are
directly connected.
The level of charging supplied to [+24] terminal is always
referred to two batteries (single-phase section), whereas the
level maintained and checked at [S] terminal depends on the
total quantity of batteries installed. For this reason, whereas
different quantity of batteries are to be connected instead of
the quantity set at the factory by manufacturer, it is necessary to modify N-BATT parameter
accordingly and to change properly the tap on the battery charger transformer.
The battery charger on board of the device is designed to use any kind of batteries (standard or
hermetic types) and gives two different types of charging in order to grant a long life for the same.
Every time the device is switched on and when it performs any rescue intervention, it gives a
BOOST full charge and, afterwards, a FLOAT support charge.
Another function of the battery charger is to cut the batteries out about an hour after power failure
(i.e. feeding to battery charger transformer) to prevent their complete discharge. When the main
supply is restored, the battery charger section starts working again.

9
7 MULTI-TOOL BOX (display, LED and keys)

In the device SN series, displaying and adjustments are performed by

means of a peripheral tool with keys, a seven segments four-digit
display and some signal LED.
It is possible to let this tool on board of the device or to remove it to
be used as a real instrument by the technicians.
In order to simplify the operations of adjustments and data entry, it is
possible to use it as a remote control about 14 meters (max.) far from
the cabinet of the rescue device (which in machine-roomless lifts has
often to be placed in the shaft, so that it is advisable to choose for the
device a position easy to reach by the maintenance technicians).
It is to take into great account that any wrong adjustment arranged on
site can implicate the correct working of the emergency device, so
that it is advisable to charge with this operation skilled technicians
only.

8 On-board programs

Depending on the position of the switch of the multi-tool box, the rescue device can keep in two
different operating status: “Monitor” and “Setup”.
The device is also equipped with SPECIAL PROGRAMS whose use is restricted to the
Emergenzamatic technicians.

8.1 Monitor
In this condition the device is normally working and ready to intervene; the multi-tool box
shows the current status of working by the lighting of the LED and the displaying of some
messages (see “normal messages”).
Here below the identification table of the first group of 8 nos. LED:

Led Description
C. Bat float Battery charger is supported: floating charge
C. Bat boost Battery charger is receiving a boosting charge.
Alarm Alarm status: an error is outstanding (see “Messages of error” table).
Stand by Device ready to intervene
Closing door The device is closing the doors (safety chain is open and contactors
are not energized).
Run Lift car in motion.
Opening Door Lift car at floor level; the device is opening the door.
T.Max During the last intervention, the lift car stopped before reaching the
floor due to the expiry of the pre-set maximum time of working of
the device.

10
A second group of LED is to signal any check performed by the device. Here below a brief
explanation of the switching ON of these LED:

I Device ON, with P1-P2 contact closed. Waiting for signals that start
the intervention.
K Lift car out of floor level.
FR Presence of voltage at FR-FR terminals (usually connected to the
brake). In case the lift car is out of floor level, the lack of voltage at
these terminals starts the intervention of the device.
MA Presence of voltage at MA terminal (usually connected to the
manoeuvre). In case the lift car is at floor level, the lack of voltage at
this terminal starts the door-opening phase.
AT TM and TM1 contactors switched ON.
SM1 Selection of travel direction. Note that the travel direction can be
selected by SM terminal.

8.2 Set up
When the device is in “SET UP” status (see the pertinent red LED), by means of the multi-
tool box it is possible to adjust some internal parameters of the device indicated by the
lighting of the relevant LED.
[UP] and [DW] keys are to be pushed to select the parameters, [ESCAPE] key is to be
pushed to store the values.
Here below a table showing all parameters:

TAP Duration (seconds) of the door opening time.

TE Duration (seconds and tenths) of the levelling time from the sensing
of floor contact to the complete stop at floor level of the lift car.
TA Waiting time (seconds) before the start of the intervention of the
device.
T-Max Maximum time (minutes) of the intervention of the device (see
paragraph “Maximum time of intervention”)
N-BAT Quantity of batteries set; every time this quantity is to be changed
also the taps for the connection to the CBATT transformer are to be
changed.
SPH-FR Frequency of single-phase section used for the feeding of brake,
retiring cam, etc…
I-NOM Nominal current of the hoist motor for rescue operation. Please, note
that this value could be different by the plate value.
PnP On this position, by pressing [ENTER] key, the Emergenzamatic
device performs the “Plug ‘n Play” test. By this test the device itself
set the MOD-INI value.
FR-INI Frequency (Hertz) of the three-phase section for the start feeding of
hoist motor and for levelling phase.

11
MOD-INI Power factor to couple to FR-INI parameter in order to optimise the
start phase.
FR-MAX Frequency (Hertz) of the three-phase section that cannot be overcome
during the rescue.
MOD-MAX Power factor that cannot be overcome during the rescue.

9 Installation

9.1 How to place the metallic cabinet

On the backside of each cabinet there are four holes to be used for the fixing to wall. Due to
the weight of battery set, for the second cabinet, a pair of brackets to sustain this cabinet, is
foreseen for better supporting it.
Through four holes located on the external sides of the cabinet it is also possible to pass the
cables for the connections with the controller.
We suggest to put the batteries into the relevant cabinet as per the below picture.

12
9.2 Connection of the cables
The connection of
the cables coming
from the controller
can be arranged
through two blocks
of terminal boards:
the first one (DIN
rail) on the right
side for the feeding of the loads, the second one (available on electronic boards) bearing the
relays for safety chain, commands and door section.
The three cables coming from the cabinet containing the batteries must be connected to the
terminals located near the general switch SM located the lower side of the cabinet
containing the electric and electronic components. These cables must go from one to the
other cabinet throw two holes that allow this connection.

9.2.1 Stop contact

Place the magnetic inductor supplied with the device on the top of lift car and the
relevant magnetic strip (paying attention the right side) at every floor to serve.
NOTE: When a different type of inductor is used, make sure that it gives an open
contact at floor level (i.e. in proximity of the strip).
Connect the stop contact between [I] and [K] terminals.
NB: Some configurations of the device allow the possibility of using a free contact
available in the lift. It is possible to locate the terminals for the connections directly on
the electrical drawing supplied with the equipment.

13
If the logic of contact open at floor cannot be applied, verify if the electric drawing
supplied with the device offers the possibility of using the opposite logic (contact
closed at floor).

10 Tests

After connecting the lift and verifying its correct working, perform tests and regulations of device
as follows:

10.1 Inverter and automatic door tests

! Open the “SB” switch.
! Stop the lift car at floor level and disconnect the three-phase general feeding of lift
control panel (if necessary, make a bridge between P1-P2 terminals).
! Let the power on for battery charger.
! By making use of multi-tool, move the “REG/NORM” switch in “REG” position.
After a few seconds, necessary to enable the microcomputer to start the SET UP
program (see the lighting of relevant LED), move the cursor, by [DOWN] key until
you reach the SPH-FR entry.
! Start the single-phase section by [ENTER] key, to verify the right functioning of it.
! If no protection appears, close the “SB” switch.
! By pushing [ENTER] and [UP] keys simultaneously, you will open the doors. The
multi-tool display will show the time is flowing.
! In case of three-phase door operator, if the device closes the doors instead of
opening them, reverse the connections to [O1]-[O2] and [V1]-[V2] terminals.
! By moving appropriately the wires labelled as “PORTE” between the taps of
inverter transformer, you may increase or decrease the voltage powering the door
operator.
! Insert on “TAP” entry the value of time need to completely open the doors (you may
see the value by keeping pushed the [ENTER] key with [DW] key released.
! Store the “TAP” value by [ESCAPE] key and move in “NORM” position the
“REG/NORM” switch.
! Perform the opening of the doors with lift car at floor level.

10.2 Travel test

! Open the “SB” switch.
! Stop the lift car out of floor level and disconnect the three-phase general feeding of
lift control panel (if necessary, make a bridge between P1-P2 terminals).
! Let the power on for battery charger.
! By making use of multi-tool, move the “REG/NORM” switch in “REG” position.
After a few seconds, necessary to enable the microcomputer to start the SET UP
program (see the lighting of relevant LED), move the cursor, by [DOWN] key until
you reach the TPH-FR entry.
! Close the “SB” switch.

14
! By pushing [ENTER] and [DW] keys simultaneously, you will start the device. The
hoist motor will be powered starting from 0.6 Hz (or lower if the three –phase set
frequency is lower then 0.6 Hz), until the three-phase set frequency is reached.
! If the device keeps the lift car under control, test the other direction by pushing
[ENTER] and [UP] keys simultaneously.
! Whether the lift car is moved with some bumps, decrease this three-phase frequency
by [DEC] key.
! Whether the selected three-phase frequency is too low, add one or two batteries to
three-phase section.
! Perform a test at balanced load.
! Store the value by [ESCAPE] key and move in “NORM” position the
“REG/NORM” switch.
! Perform a complete test starting from lift car out of floor level.
! If you need to change the rescue direction, reverse the connections to [UM]-[VM]
and [UQ]-[VQ] terminals.
! To best level the lift car, change the value stored in TE entry.

11 Maintenance and inspection

To keep the Emergenzamatic device in perfect efficiency, we suggest paying attention to the
following suggestions:
! Whenever you need to leave the device disconnected and the battery charger on, let SM
general switch on and SB manoeuvre switch off.
! Before making any maintenance operation or any direct manoeuvre on the lift, disconnect the
SM switch of the device panel.
! Test the device every time the lift maintenance is performed.
! When it is necessary to perform insulation tests in the lift circuits you must disconnect the
earth wire of the device.
! Clean the battery terminals when oxidized and put on again some vaseline or similar grease.
