Exploring a Structure
Assignment Description:
For this assignment you are required to choose a structure that is famous around the world.
Examples include the Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa, Colosseum, the CN Tower and so on.
Once you have chosen your structure to research you are required to find out the following
information:
• The location of the structure;
• The year it was built;
• The materials used to make the structure;
• The height and / or weight of the structure;
• The purpose of the structure (what is the structure used for, what was it originally used for?);
• Identify a force that might be acting upon the structure – whether it is internal or external;
• Identify 2 – 3 facts about the structure that you find interesting.
Assignment Format:
The assignment format is open-ended, as long as you have all of the above information included
for your presentation. You should try and be as creative as possible when presenting your
information, while still making sure your information is readable and understandable by your
classmates. You can complete a PowerPoint presentation, an essay or a bristol board presentation.
Grading Scale:
You will be graded using a rubric. This rubric will use levels 1 – 4. Level 4 indicates a thorough and
clear presentation of information. Level 3 means that you have met the requirements for the
assignment, but a few things could be tweaked.
Success Criteria:
The success criteria for this assignment are:
