This document shows the work procedure for
the annual inspection of JCY-1800 VDR.
Please follow the correct procedure steps
indicated in this manual and prepare an APT
report to ensure there are no defects.
If the data is incomplete or the created test
report is incorrect, extra effort and correction
will be required at the time of analysis, and
the issuance of the C.O.C. certificate will be
delayed or cannot be issued, which will result
in causing troubles to our Customers.

Annual VDR JCY-1900 Procedure
Perform the inspection in the order of the above work flow.
If you make a mistake in the procedure, you cannot check the event logs such as the blackout
test and each microphone test.

Initial operation check /Each unit / FFC / FPC

Initial Function Check/Visual Check

1. Initial Function Check/Visual Check

• Is an alarm etc. generated in the VDR OPU (Operation Unit) after visiting the ship?
• If an alarm occurs, investigate the cause.
• Visually inspect each unit of the VDR for damage. Is there any damage especially to
the FPC (fixed capsule), FFC (levitation capsule), and waterproof microphone?
• FPC beacon expiry date confirmation
• Beacon checker operation confirmation
• FFC battery, HRU expiration date confirmation
• Decode confirmation by tester

2. Connect the maintenance PC to the VDR Data port with a LAN cable and connect to
the JCY-1900 WEB menu.
Check if the settings are correct. The IP address of the PC is assigned by thVDR DHCP
Servicer, but can be connected to the following address
manually.
In that case, change it as follows:
IP:192.168.110.200
Subnet mask:255.255.255.0
Default Gateway:192.168.110.3

Connect the Maintenance PC to Data Port

Click the Operation Panel tab.

Connect to JCY-1900 WEB Menu

Display the OPU screen on Maintenance PC.

Check the input status of each

sensor, RADAR / ECDIS Check that the expiry date is
acquisition image, MIC, VHF voice, correct with the Replacement
and Medium operation from the
Check button.

Data download from FPC, FFC, Internal storage
Start JCY-1900 VDR Maintenance tool
application.

Click APTDOWNLOAD

When the Config is received from VDR, it becomes operable, and the information of
the recorded data is acquired by the following operations.

a) Click Browse button and select save folder.

c) Confirm that ✔ is entered in Get File Size / Num. of

Files, Fixed Protective Capsule, Float-free Capsule,
Internal Strage.

b) Input 750 hours

If the connection could not be confirmed, the storage is greyed out as shown above.
If there is grayed-out media, check the connection, correct it, and restart the tool.

d) Click Get Info. to get the information.

At this point, information about only the capacity and the number of files per hour
is acquired for the set time. The actual VDR data is not downloaded.
*Depending on the amount of recorded data, it takes approximately 20 min. to
download 750 hours of data.

FPC is only obtain Size information. Number of files per hour for each data

Sensor ： One file is created every minute.

If there are not 60 files per hour, power off (restart), recording stopped, DC operation
with AC disconnected, these reason is considered.

Image ： One file is created every minute.

If there are not 60 files per hour, power off (restart), recording stopped, DC operation
with AC disconnected. these reason is considered.

Connect by LAN Select Display Information Port

Audio ： One file is created per minute for each track. When using all tracks
(microphone x 6 VHF x 2 8 tracks in total),60 × 8 = 480 files are created.
VHF audio is not recorded when AC is turned off and DC is operated.

FPC, FFC capsule 48 hours, Internal Storage 720 hours, confirm that data is recorded
continuously. If the recording is not continuous, investigate why the VDR is not
defective, such as VDR power OFF and DC operation. (Investigate the event.)

Click Download to start downloading. (It is not necessary to stop recording.)

A folder with year, month, day, hour, minute,

second is automatically created in the folder

Click the OK button to start downloading.

7. Select the vdrinfo.dat file in the media name folder or init folder that you
want to play and click Open.

8. Click “Folder icon”

9. Select the media name folder you want to play and click OK.

How to search EVENT data

1. Start JCY-1900 maintenance tool.

Double click

2. Click “LOGVIEWER”

3. Click “EVENT”

4. Open the downloaded Event file

How to search EVENT data

5. EVENT data loaded screen

Recording was stopped at 9:29 on June 8th due to OPU operation, and
recording was not restarted after that.

After turning off the VDR power at 8:35 on June 6, power on at 9:29 on June 8.

Get the VDR Report File

Get the DSC Configuration File
VDR Jcy-1900/1950 required downloading file.

Click “SENSOR” on Web menu

DSC is connected to Serial Port ch19, 20, 23, 24.

When multiple connected made, acquire each DSC setting file.

a) Click “Detail” of DSC connected channel

b) Click “DSC Setting” tab

--IMPORTANT!--
When some trouble is discovered at the time of APT in VDR;

(Example) The data of wind anemometer data is not entered.

 Is the VDR serial port normal?
Judgment is made based on whether GPS signals can be input and
received.
 Check the baud rate if the data from the wind direction anemometer
is not received
or if there are garbled characters.
 Enter the details of the defect or failure on the Engineer Remarks
field of the VDR APT report.
 Request for photo to confirm rectified to the Captain after repair of
the wind and anemometer, etc.
In addition, after rectified with no errors in the VDR OPU, if possible,
send email of the wind and anemometer repair service report, etc.
 Save it on a DVD with the acquired data and send it to JRC. We will
proceed for C.O.C. after confirmed the failure has been rectified.

(Example) When the power of the echo sounder etc. cannot be turned
on during dry dock.
 If the data such as echo sounder remains in the past data, it does not
matter.
 If no past data remains, it is judged to be normal unless there is an
error in the OPU photograph after launch.
Therefore, ask the Captain or ship Crew to send you the photo after
launch, copy it to a DVD and send it to the JRC so that the recipient
can understand it with comment memo etc.

 Regarding bow thrusters, those that cannot be confirmed at the time

of APT will be unquestioned.
The ones that are currently unquestioned are basically Only for
NMEA data from bow thrusters.
