Semi-detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 5

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the pupils will be able to:
1. Identify the different geometric shapes, angles, and other figures;
2. create an artwork using different geometric figures;
3. participate actively throughout the discussion; and
4. value the importance of geometry in daily life.

II. Subject Matter:

III. Procedure

A. Preparation
The teacher will greet the students and ask someone to lead the prayer.
After that, there will be checking of attendance and review of the previous lesson.

B. Motivation/Energizer
The teacher will present a video related to geometry that will help them to
have an idea about what a geometry is and what are the topics under it.
C. Lesson Proper
The first topic will start by asking the pupils to observe a picture
consisting of parallel and perpendicular lines. Then the teacher will start to
identify what are parallel and perpendicular lines. After that, the teacher will give
some examples and will let her pupils give their own examples afterward. Lastly,
they will compare and contrast the difference between the two.

For the third topic, the teacher will start the lesson by having the students
answer the questions asked about the video presented and have a mini discussion.
After that, the teacher will proceed to the introduction of the topic/subtopic
‘Triangles’ and continue discussing it while asking some questions to the pupils.
The lesson will end by summarizing the topic discussed and asking students if
there are any questions and clarifications.

For the fourth topic, the teacher will lead the students to the topic by
describing the characteristics of quadrilaterals. She will teach the students how to
determine the pair of consecutive sides, pair of opposite angles and diagonals of
parallelogram. Then the classifications of quadrilateral will be introduced after.
Lastly, discussing how to find the measurement of angles and sides of
parallelogram depends on what is missing in the problem.

For the fifth topic, the teacher will lead the pupils to the discussion by
introducing polygon and line segment. Next, she will discuss the three types of
polygon. Lastly, she will discuss about the congruent polygons.

The teacher will lead the pupils to the sixth topic by asking them if they
can see a circle-shaped object in their house. Next, she will identify what is circle
and its parts. She will also show how to draw a circle and teach them how to get
its area and circumference.

For the last one, the teacher will start the discussion about the meaning of
solid figures and their different classifications or types. After that, the teacher will
introduce the parts of solid figures and explain them one by one. Then, the teacher
will also give some examples of solid figures together with their description and
where we can see or use them. In this topic, the teacher will present some pictures
and objects to help them understand the lesson well.

IV. Generalization
It is vital to make sure that the pupils learn something from the discussion. Every
subtopic that will be discussed, the teacher will give the pupils a summary of the whole
discussion for them to remember. While providing the overview, the teacher will ask
questions to see if they listened very well and learned from the discussion.
V. Activity
The teachers will flash different kinds of activities that are related to the topics
that were discussed.

Activity 1:
Draw parallel lines and perpendicular lines through the white dots. Use a ruler
to help you draw straight lines.

Activity 2:
Identify what kind of angle are the following.
Activity 3:
Sketch the kind of triangle described. Mark the triangle to indicate what information
is known.
1. Right angled isosceles triangle
Example answer:

2. Obtuse angled isosceles triangle

3. Acute angled triangle
4. Scalene triangle
5. Right angled triangle
Activity 4:
Read the statements carefully. Write T if the statement is true and F if the statement is
false. Write your answers on the blank provided before each number.

1. A rectangle is a parallelogram.

2. A square is a rhombus.

3. A square is a parallelogram.

4. A square is a quadrilateral.

5. A rhombus is a square.

6. A square is a rectangle.

7. A rectangle is a square.

8. A trapezoid is a quadrilateral.

9. A kite is a trapezoid.

10. A trapezoid is an isosceles trapezoid.

Activity 5:
Directions: Name each polygon by the number of its sides. Write your answer on a
sheet of paper.

Activity 6:
A. Find the circumference of each circle from the given radius or diameter.
B. Calculate the area of each circle.

Activity 7:
There are pictures of different solid figures that will be flash in the screen. The
student will determine the name of each solid figures and will write their answers in a
clean sheet of paper.
