DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS V1

I. OBJECTIVES
At the of the 60-minutes class discussion, the learners will be able to:
A. Define a Pie Graph
B. Solve Routine and Non-Routine Problems using Data Presented in a
Pie Graph

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Solve Routine and Non-Routine Problems using Data Presented in a Pie
Graph
B. Reference: CO_Q4_MATHEMATICS6_MODULE 5
C. MATERIALS: Powerpoints, Activity Sheets

III. PROCEDURE
A. REVIEW

Good morning, class. Before we proceed

to our next topic. Let’s have first a simple
review to our previous topic.

Who could remember our previous topic? (student raise his hand) Ma’am, last
meeting we discussed about Pie Graph
and how to construct a pie graph based on
a given set of data and interpret.

Very good. In our last meeting we tackle

about Pie Graph and how to construct a
pie graph based on a given set of data and
interpret.

Can someone tell me what is Pie Graph? A Pie Graph has the shape like a circle. It
is divided into parts that look like pieces
of pie. So sometimes a circle graph is
called a Pie Graph. A Pie Graph is a
circular region divided into parts. It
shows the relationship of various parts of
data to the whole.

Very good.
B. MOTIVATION
Before we proceed to our lesson.I would
like you to study the problem below.
110 kids were surveyed on their
favorite sport. The pie graph is
made according to their responses.
Use the pie graph to answer the
question.
Which sports has the greatest number of
kids? Basketball ma’am

What percent of the kids like chess the

most? 5%

How many kids choose swimming as

their favorite sports?
11 kids ma’am
How many kids were asked about their
favorite sport?
110 kids ma’am

How did you get 11 kids?

Very good! Ma’am I converted 10% to decimal so the

answer is 0.1 times the total number of
kids which is 110 ma’am
What is the difference in percent between
the number of kids who like volleyball
and badminton?

How did you get your answer?

Ma’am 10%

Very good class!Indeed your answers are

all correct.
24%-14%=10%

C. PRESENTATION

Based on our activity, what do you think Solving Problems using Data presented in
will be our lesson? a pie graph Maam.

Very Good. Solving Problems using Data

presented in a pie graph. But to exact, our
topic for today is Solving Routine and
Non-Routine Problems using Data
presented in a Pie Graph.

Are now all ready to listen and learn? Yes, ma’am

D. DISCUSSION
Pie Graft are used to show the percent of
a quantity in each of the several
categories. It represents the data in the
circular graph. The slices of pie show the
relative size of the data, and it is a type
of pictorial representation of data. Here,
the term “pie” represents the whole, and
the “slices” represent the parts of the
whole.

Mary kindly read the statement!

( Mary will read the statement)

Now let us study the problem below.

Mengie’s flower shop has five

(5) varieties of flowers. Her shop has
350 flowers in all. The pie graph on
the right shows the percent of flowers
in each variety. How many percent of
flowers are tulips? How many are the
tulip flowers?

There are Four-Step Plan in solving a

problem do you still remember it class?

Yes ma’am
Understand,plan,solve and checking
Very good!

Step 1:Understaning
A. Know what is asked
B. Know the given facts
What is asked in the problem class?
The problem asked for the percent and
the number of tulip flowers.
Very good class! Now what are the given
facts?
5 varieties of flowers 350 is the total
number of flowers 30% are roses, 14%
are carnation, 27% are anthurium, 3% are
orchids
Step 2: Plan
a. Plan the operation/s to be used.
b. Formulate the equation/s

What are the operations to be use in the

problem class? Addition,subtraction and multiplication
ma’am

Very good class now let us formulate the

equation

Let N = percent of tulips

Y = number of tulips

Equation for the first question:

100% – (30% + 14% + 27% + 13%) = N

Equation for the second question:

N x 350 = Y

Having this formula we are now ready to

solve the problem.

Step 3: solve
Let us answer the first question.
How many percent of flowers are tulips?

100% – (30% + 14% + 27% + 13%) = N

Who can solve the first question in front
class?
100% - (30% + 14% + 27% + 13%) = N
100% - 84% = N
N = 16% are tulips

Can you explain how you get 16%?

Yes ma’am
100% is the total percent of all flowers in
Mengie’s flower shop.

The sum of roses,carnation,anthurium

and orchids are 84%

And subtracting 100% from 84% will

have a difference of 16 %
Indeed your answer is correct.

How about the question number 2?

How many are the tulip flowers?

Here we will use the equation number 2
N x 350 = Y

N= 16%
First we will convert it to decimal.
How to convert percent to decimal again?

To convert a percentage to a
decimal, divide by 100. So 16% is
16/100, or 0.16 ma’am.
Very good! Now who can answer the
second question.
By checking ma’am.

Yes! Let us proceed to step 4.

Step 4: check and look back

Question Number 1:
Add 30%, 14%, 27%, 13%, 16%,What
will be the answer class? 100% ma’am

Question Number 2:
Divide 56 by 350, and the answer is 0.16.

Therefore, there are 56 tulip flowers

which comprise 16% of all the flowers in
Mengie’s shop.

Do you understand class?

Yes ma’am

What is asked class?

Step 1:
What is asked?
How many are roses in Mengie’s flower
shop?
What are the given facts?
What are the given facts?
30% are the roses
350 is the total flowers on Mengie’s
flower shop.

What are the operation to be used?

Multiplication ma’am

We will now formulate the equation

Let n= the number of tulips

(30%)(350)=n

Who would like to solve the equation in

front? 30% /100= 0.30
(0.30) (350)=n
105=n
There are 105 pieces of roses.

Let’s do the checking.

Divide 105 by 350 is 0.30
Therefore, there are 105 rose flowers
which comprise 30% of all the flowers in
Mengie’s shop.

Very good class!

E. GENERALIZATION ( learners raise their hand)

Based on our discussion what are the four 1. To understand, we must know what is
steps you must follow in solving Routine asked in the problem
and Non-Routine Problems using Data 2. To Plan, What will be the operation to
presented in a Pie Graph. be used in the problem and its equation.
3. To solve, we must show our solution
4. To check and to look back, we must
check and review our answer.

Very good. Everyone is really listening to

me while discussing.

F. VALUES INTEGRATION

How can we apply solving routine and In our daily lives, we can apply solving
non-routine problems using data routine and non-routine problems using
presented in a pie graph in our life? Give data presented in a pie graph by making
and example. informed decisions based on the
information provided. For example, we
can use a pie chart depicting our monthly
expenses to analyze where our money is
being spent and identify areas where we
can cut back to save money.

What is the important of solving routine Solving routine and non-routine problems
and non-routine problems using data using data presented in a pie graph is
presented in a pie graph in our daily life? essential in our daily lives as it helps us
make informed decisions. This enables us
to effectively manage resources, plan
budgets, and streamline processes,
resulting in improved efficiency and
productivity.
