OBJECTIVE
The objective of learning about electric distribution systems is to comprehend
the main purpose to distribute and control the supply of electrical power to all
auxiliary and electrical equipment aboard ship. The electrical distribution system
consists the cables, circuit breakers, fusees, etc., necessary to safely distribute
power throughout the ship. Similarly, studying single screw and twin screw
propulsion aims to understand the principles and operation of propulsion systems,
enabling the efficient movement and maneuverability of vessels through water, thus
contributing to the optimal performance and safety of marine vessels.
COURSE OUTCOME
The course outcomes of studying electric distribution systems and single
screw and twin screw propulsion in basic marine engineering are critical for
preparing students to excel in the maritime industry.
Electric distribution systems are fundamental to ship operations, providing power for
propulsion, navigation, communication, and various onboard systems. By mastering
electric distribution, students gain expertise in designing, installing, and maintaining
electrical grids aboard marine vessels. They learn to ensure the reliability, efficiency,
and safety of power distribution, contributing to the seamless operation of ships in
diverse marine environments.
Similarly, single screw and twin screw propulsion systems play a pivotal role in
maritime transportation, dictating a vessel's maneuverability, speed, and efficiency.
Through the study of propulsion systems, students delve into the principles,
components, and operation of these systems, enabling them to analyze propulsion
requirements, select suitable configurations, and optimize vessel performance.
They learn to navigate challenges such as propulsion efficiency, stability, and
control, enhancing their ability to design, operate, and maintain propulsion systems
for various marine applications.
