Low rear pump pressure may be

seal falls itis necessary that the run-
out of the primary pump hub be
checked. The runout of this hub is de-
pendent on the flatness of the primary
pump locating face of the flywheel. It
Js best therefore to check the runou
of the flywheel first.
‘To do this make a set-up similar to
that shovn in Fig. 12. Runout of the
flywheel face should not exceed .0
FULL INDICATOR READING. If
the runout is greater, try tapping the
high side with a lead mallet, Should
this fal to bring about a correct read-
ing, then a new flywheel must be in
stalled. Do not neglect to check for
burrs at the attaching bolt holes
which might be the cause of the run-
out. Be sure to hold erankshatt end
play in toward the front,
When the runout of the flywheel
hhas been brought within the limit,
‘then install the primary pump to it
using the 3 or 6 flywheel attaching
bolts and tightening to 26.30 ft-lbs
Install also the bell housing, fastening
it tightly n place,
Using a set-up Uke that shown in
Fig. 18, check the runout of the pri-
mary pump hub, It must not exceed
012” FULL INDICATOR READING,
If the runout is greater, then unbolt
the primary pump and revolve its po-
sition on the flywheel 180 degrees re-
fasten it and recheck the runout, If
the figure is still too large, the prims-
ry piimp will have to be replaced. The
runout of the new pump hub’ will
hhave to be checked in the same man-
ner. If the runout of the primary
amp hub is within the limit, make
set-ups. similar to those shown in
Figs. 14 and 15. Runout of the rear
face of the bell housing with refer-
ene to the primary pump hub must
not exceed .005” FULL INDICATOR
READING, while that of the pilot
hole must not exceed 004” FULL IN.
DICATOR READING, Clamp oniy to
the driving lug as shown.
If either of these figures is exceed-
cd, it will be necessary to replace oF
relocate the hell housing,
‘Note A. The front oll pump seal and
the oll pump itself cannot tolerate
runouts greater than those given for
tany appreciable length of time,
Note B. There is a tendency for the
primary pump hub to wear into an
hhour-glass. shape. ‘This condition is
easily found with a straight edge and
requires that the primary pump be

DISASSEMBLY
Before starting to take the trans-
mission apart clean it thoroughly. In
the process of disassembly be careful
to note the condition ofall gaskets as
auite often the only elue to trouble is
the appearance of a connecting gasket
‘which will clearly show if a good seal
txisted. No part of the assembly is a
foree fit, Use a SOFT hammer if any
tapping is required
The relative position of adjacent
parts cam usually be determined by
thelr wear patterns, There is there-
fore no need to mark sny parts save
those mentioned in General Informa-
tion under Match Marks. The same
Information is repeated when nec-
essary in the text.
‘The High and Low accumulators
are marked Hand L on thelr eaps but
they could be mounted one in place of
the other so mechanics usually mark
the bottom and the adjacent reactor
shaft flange of the High accumulator.
