408 Integrated electronic control system - Joystick / DP-System

Joystick system:
The vessel will be equipped with a Joystick system make RRM, POSCON. This
system integrates all the manoeuvring controls in one lever - the joystick lever,
and controls the:
• 2 pcs. Main Propellers
• 2 pcs. Rudders
• 2 pcs. Tunnel thrusters, bow
• 2 pcs. Tunnel thrusters, stern

The system consists of the following main components:

♦ Opearator station with joystick and display delivered separately for desktop
mounting
♦ Controller cabinet for bulkhead mounting
♦ One Portable control panel for mounting in four plug boxes for connection
(forward, aft and each built-in bridge wing)

Brackets for support of portable control panel to be arranged in the following

locations in the wheelhouse:
♦ Forward console
♦ Aft between consoles
♦ In each built-in bridge wing

Generally the signals given by moving the joystick lever are prepared by the
microcomputer and transferred to the different propellers, thrusters, and rudders
by means of their ordinary electronic manoeuvre systems. Signals to be galvanic
isolated.

The joystick lever may be moved axially through 360 degrees and radially through
approximately 45 degrees. The axial position of the lever determines the vessels
approximate direction whilst radial depression, the speed at which the vessel
moves.

The vessels course will be set by the course setting unit on the joystick operators
panels, the course (heading) will then be changed. The point of turn, when using
course setting unit can be selected on operators panel.

To prevent the vessel from overshooting the selected heading, the system has a
counter pitch device which gradually reduces the movement of the vessel as it
approaches the set heading. The vessel will then remain on that heading
regardless of whether it is moving forward, aft or transverse, until a new heading is
set by the course setting unit.

The system is self-diagnosing and activates alarms if faults occur.

In case of a system failure, the control is automatic switched over to normal bridge
control. The control will be switched over to the panel in command from where it
was switched over to Joystick system.

Control panel(s) to contain following functions:

♦ Joystick for vessel positioning and heading control.
♦ Course indicator showing actual heading and heading order.
♦ Pushbuttons for POSCON ON/OFF.
♦ Pushbuttons for selection of center of rotation.
♦ Selection between bow, center or stern.
♦ Pushbuttons for “Auto Pilot” mode
♦ Alarm indication w/reset for:
Computer failure
Panel (console) failure.
Off-course

DP-system
A DP system, type Rolls-Royce ICON, making the vessel comply with

2 Wind Sensor
2 Two axes VRU (vertical reference system)
Printer
Uninterrupted Power Supply System

Interfaces
♦ Gyro compass interface
♦ Wind sensor interface
♦ VRS interface
♦ DGPS interface
♦ Main prop. interface
♦ Thruster interface
♦ Rudder system interface
♦ Power system interface (Blackout prevention)

Computer Hardware
The controller of the DP-system shall consist of one computer.

Display facilities
The DP display shall be colour graphic, and is to be used to show operation and
vessel position on diagrammatic and graphical forms.

Software
The thrust control software shall be based on a mathematical model of the vessel.
The control functions shall be performed by a processing system where a change
in, loss of/or drift in signal shall be detected.
The processor shall be connected to the reference system in such a way that the
regulator can determine positively which unit is not valid, and disconnect it
accordingly. During this process the position shall be maintained, and partial error
information shall be given to the operator.
The input information to the computer system shall be monitored or checked.

Operation modes to be included in the software:

♦ Auto Sail
♦ Auto Track Low Speed
♦ Auto Station Keeping
♦ Standby / Training

Sensors

Gyro-compass
Ship's gyro compass to be available during DP operation.

Wind Sensors
Two (2) wind sensors shall be installed.

Vertical Reference sensors

TWO (2) VRS shall be installed.

Position Reference Systems

The following types of position-reference systems shall be supplied with the DP-
system:

DGPS
Two (2) off DGPS, 12 channel, suitable as DP position reference system.
