Then dp(2)or at second iteration,

Therefore, the optimal dispatch are

Economic dispatch neglecting line loss and including
generating limits

(Total production cost is minimum), subject to the constraints and

the inequality constraints given by,

NB. The procedure is the same as before but the only

exception is that if the solution is beyond the limit it must be
pegged at the limit based on the above equation.
And then find the dp and determine the new lambda value
based on the equation and only inviolate plants must operate at
equal incremental cost.

Example 6.2
Repeated the example 6.1 with the following generator
limits.

Economic dispatch including loss

Cont’d

When transmission distance are very small, transmission losses

may be neglected and the optimal dispatch of generation is
achieved with all plants operating at equal incremental production
cost.
 However, in a large interconnected network where power is
transmitted over long distance, transmission losses are a major
factor and affect the optimal dispatch of generation.
 To solve this we can use the simplest quadratic form as
follows.

Equation 2.9 from the above is rearranged as

36
Cont’d

The effect of transmission loss is to introduce a penalty

factor.
The minimum cost is obtained when the incremental cost
of each plant multiplied by its penalty factor is the same for
all plants.
