an IP66 die-cast aluminum enclosure and is rated for an operating temperature range of -40°F
(-40°C) to +212°F (+100°C).
The SA-3000 flame amplifier operation is DSP microprocessor based and is used with the SF-
3001R flame detector to identify the flame. ‘The SA-3000 allows Flame Failure Response Time
(FFRT) and Trial for Ignition (TF) user-selectable settings of 1, 2 or 3 seconds via SME V1.0
software. The SA-3000 flame amplifier communicates with a computer for real-time analysis,
monitoring, and conditioning of the flame detector. The flame status and a fault condition are
indicated by two separate flame and fault relay outputs. The SA-3000 is a card assembly
mounted on a 19-inch card stand and is equipped with an 8-digit LED display for status indication
and four push buttons for user-selectable options. It is powered by 24Vde, 0.5A and is rated for

EXAMINATIONS AND TESTS
General
Representative samples of the SF-300IR flame detector with SA-3000 flame amy
‘examined and tested by FM Approvals in Norwood, MA and West Glocester, RI to determine
their acceptability in accordance with the applicable standards. Functional testing was conducted
using a propane torch as a flame source. Examination showed that the samples were constructed
in accordance with the manufacturer's drawings and description and FM Approvals requirements.
Results of the applicable examination and testing are outlined below,
Operating Characteristics — Combustion Safeguards
The flame detector and amplifier operated properly through their specified normal start-up and.
shut-down procedures. The detector activates immediately upon application of power to the
system and the status is indicated on the amplifier display. This is considered satisfactory.
Flame Failure Response Time (FFRT)
Flame Failure Response Time (FFRT) was measured for 10 operational cycles with the flame
amplifier sample set at 1, 2 and 3 seconds. The average response times, including 3c (standard
deviation), are within 110% of these specifications and below the 4 second maximum allowed by
FM Class 7610. This is considered satisfactory.

Trial for Ignition (TF1)
Trial for Ignition (TFI) was measured for 10 operational cycles with the flame amplifier sample
set at 1, 2 and 3 seconds. The average response times, including 3o (standard deviation), are
within 110% of these specifications in accordance with FM Class 7610. This is considered
satisfactory.
Durability
The flame status relay is an Omron G6C-2114P-US relay with contact ratings of 240Vac, 2A /
30Vde, 2A. A sample relay was subjected to 100,000 operational cycles at rated voltage and
‘maximum electrical load without wear or failure. This is considered satisfactory.
Voltage Variation
‘The SA-3000 flame amplifier connected to an SF300IR flame detector was subjected to an input
voltage of 20.4Vde (85% of rated voltage) and 26.4Vdc (110% of rated voltage), with no change
in operating characteristics, FFRT or TFI times resulting. This is considered satisfactory.
Electrical Insulation
‘A sample SF300IR flame detector and SA-3000 flame amplifier were individually subjected to
710Vdc applied between the input terminals and ground. Additionally, the SA-3000 flame
amplifier was subjected to 1480Vac between the input and output terminals and between the
outputs terminals and ground. In all cases, the potential was applied for one minute with no
arcing, leakage or dielectric breakdown. This is considered satisfactory.

“Learn ON” means learning function during flame-on. When target flame is small (low load), press
Program and flame detector displays “Wait 18", Immediately, 18 is counted down to 0 within 18
seconds. This procedure saves frequency and intensity of the flame under supervision and adjacent
flame spectrum temporarily.
“Learn OFF” means learning function during flame-off. Tum off the target flame under supervision.
Run maximum background flame and then press Program. The flame detector displays “Wait 18”.
Immediately, 18 is counted down to 0 within 18 seconds. This procedure saves the model of frequency
‘and intensity of background flame temporarily
‘After understanding “flame-on” and “flame-off", flame detector compares flame-on model “ON” and
‘lame-off model “OFF” automatically and sets to optimum identification frequency. Upon completion,
“Freqy%" is displayed. Press Maly to return,

Freq 30/500: It means selection of burning frequency. The screen displays selected flicker frequency
of flame on the left and signal intensity of transducer on the right. The range of frequency selection is
3Hz-126Hz. The gradient is 3 Hz.
‘Change frequency with Up/Down, The result of signal intensity will be immediately displayed on the
right of the screen, Press Program to save.
Band: Frequency band selection. It represents the selected band of frequency the flame detector
receives and processes. The range is 3-15. The corresponding band of flame frequency is 3Hz-1SHz
and the gradient is 3 Hz.
ON Threshold: Setting of flame-on threshold level. This refers tothe “pull-in” threshold ofthe internal
flame relay based on flame signal intensity, The range of flame-on threshold setting is 10-1999,
Flame relay is energized when flame signal intensity IR is equal to or higher than flame-on threshold
for a certain period (equivalent to flame-on delay of OTD)
OFF Threshold: Setting of flame-off threshold level. This refers to the “drop-out” threshold of the
sma flame relay based on flame signal intensity. The range of flame-off threshold setting is 0-1989.
However, flame-off threshold must be set to a level lower than flame-on threshold by 10 units at leat
Flame relay is de-energized when flame signal intensity IR is lower than flame-off threshold for a
certain period (equivalent to flame-off response time of FFRT).
Max: Set value ofthe upper limit (20mA) of the 4-20mA flame intensity. The maximum set value Max
represents 20mA (maximum) analog quantity output of flame signal intensity when the flame signal
intensity is equal to or higher than Max. The range is 1-1999.
Min: Set value of the lower li
it (4mA) of the 4-20mA flame intensity. The lower limit set value Min
represents 4mA (minimum) analog quantity output of flame signal intensity when the flame signal
intensity is equal to or lower than Min, The set value shall be less than Max by 1 and the range is
0-1998,
